The genre that I selected is Television. The first artifacts that I chose is the show called “The 100.” This show is somewhat connects to my selected genre. The 100 is about when the nuclear Armageddon destroys civilization on Earth, the only survivors are those on the 12 international space stations in orbit at the time. Clarke is one of the main character in the show, her father died when he got floated to space. There were rules in space; if you don’t follow it you will get floated to space. Her dad was planning on breaking the rules for the good of the other people. But Clarke heard it, and told her best friend whose also named Wells. She thought Wells snitched on Clarke’s father, but it wasn't actually him; it was her mother. But Wells
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was not.
According to “The Bedford Book of Genres” A Genre is a compositions kind, category or sort”. One type of genre in Children’s literature is the Fairy Tale. Fairy tales can be difficult to define as many of the characteristics cross over into fables and folklore. In the beginning fairy tales were original targeted at adults as well as children and were both oral and written works. It is a type of short story usually about elves, fairies, dragons, or other magical beings with the point of teaching a lesson and involving a far-fetched sequence of events. This form may be used by authors as a way of examining the human condition or to recreate a sense of the fantastic. They have a conventional, happy ever after style full of magic and romance.
In Gordimers story “Once upon a time” uses the genre of a children’s story to articulate monsters in a suburban family by using the theme of a fairytale that clashes with the theme of a childrens story so he can use “monsters” in a suburban family. Gordimer uses phrases that kind of gives him the excuse to go in and articulate the monsters into the genre of a children’s story. Gordimer knew how to put everything in place to make it be called a “children’s story” Also, she the setting of the story in a good neighborhood, just people
In recent years, movie class plays a more and more important role in English teaching in China. Most teachers require students to write movie reviews after watching the movie. However, how to write movie review is still remain unclear to students. Some student download a review from the internet, and some write a summary of the movie instead.
My second artifact is a show called United Shades of America that organized a documentary on Native American issues in society. The host is W. Kamau Bell who is a comedian and political provocateur. He explores Native American’s adversity, and how they are treated in the general public. Apparently, many of the Native American’s do not like being called Native American, because they were here before it was
Aside from the fencing that surrounds Columbus Park, there is additional fencing which separates the turf field from the other two sections. The park has three entrances and the turf field has its own entrance. The turf field, made of artificial grass and cement, has seven benches surrounding the area, each facing towards the field. This can encourage strangers to talk to each other. Some benches are closer than others, which allows people to maintain their distance. The field is in a rectangular shape, with trees encompassing the area. The field looks welcoming as there are always some people around and it feels safe to spend time there. It was also interesting to see that the turf field had separate rules compared to the rest of the park.
In the book how to Read Literature like a Professor the author explains and gives some examples of common archetypes and trends in literature. Another great book, the Hobbit is a great example of some of the common archetypes. There are many archetypes covered in this book but some of these archetypes stand out. Some examples of these archetypes are: the quest of the hero, the communion, and the hero.
Prompt: Books are Liesel’s sanctuary. How have books comforted her? How do you think that the process of learning to read The Gravedigger’s Manual helped Liesel deal with the grief of losing her brother and mother?
The musical film has always held a special place for me. From my time as a drama student in high school, my eyes have been opened to the amazing world of the musical and especially the musical film. The musical film is a film genre in which the characters sing songs that are integrated into the overall story. Since musicals first began in theaters, musical films usually contain similar elements. These elements often simulate that there is a live audience watching. In a sense, the film viewers become the audience members, at a theater production, as the actor performs directly to them. Due to the popularity of musicals in the theater, the style was quickly brought over into film. In 1927, the musical film genre began
No matter which type of job or career the author is looking for, a resume is a great first step. Generally, resumes are built and created in early adulthood by the author them self. There are a few things that can be assumed about the authors. First, they are middle to upper class individuals who like to show off their own personal qualifications, education, and academic and professional experiences they have obtained throughout their life. The audience in which will be looking over these resumes could be a pretty broad range generally speaking, but for the most part whoever the author is submitting the resume to will be the intended audience for this genre. I think it is safe to say this genre will be around for many years to come,
Cozy novels are like romance novels the protagonist is almost always female, and never a professional crime-solver. The character always want something—a fortune, a lover, or even respect—so bad that they would kill for it, give up a chance at happiness to get it, until finally the chase itself means more to them than what they're chasing. Hardboiled are usually male protagonists who are tough, independent, often solitary figure and are professionally involved in solving crime, a fair amount of violence, and a generally cynical outlook. The world is dark and corrupt and nothing Our Hero can do will change that, but he is nevertheless compelled to try, even though he knows that he is ultimately doomed to fail. He doesn’t usually have many friends,
A dead family and a nifty name, Macduff, and to a lesser extent his family, are the subjects of my multi-genre review. I decided to do Macduff's side of Macbeth for the reason that he seems to be a very interesting but not fully developed character. Which is desirable since the reader could interpret his character different ways.
The term ‘Genre’ in relation to the film used to categorise films based on the plot, characterisation and setting. Films can have multiple genres within them which works to attract an interested audience. Dead Poets Society (DPS) directed by Peter Weir (1989), the film we have been observing incorporates the bildungsroman (coming of age) genre and romance genre in order to notify the struggles and success of teenage boys and their teacher who attends Welton Academy.
Some definitions of the bildungsroman novel and its characteristics will be presented in the first section of this paper. Then, in the second section, the two novels cited above will be analyzed separately. The elements which make them be considered bildungsromane will be pointed out. Finally, to conclude, the differences and similarities between them will be dealt with so that it will be clear in what ways the bildungsroman differ in the two novels.
In this assignment I will discuss the choice of genre; comedy or tragedy? In the play Death of a Salesman (2000) by Arthur Miller and the movie east is east (1999) by Ayub Khan-Din. I will suggest Willy Loman within the play Death of a Salesman (2000) actually is the architect of his own failure. I will put forward Loman’s ideal of the American Dream and show while he strived to achieve this goal, this ultimately proved to be the cause of his demise. While this play shows the audience that Willy is not a failure, his refusal to accept reality only helps to add to the tragedy of Death of a Salesman (2000). On the other hand east is east (1999) has elements of tragedy, but ultimately the genre
