Honors English Class Analysis

Since elementary school English was always my favorite subject. I knew that reading and writing were essential to my learning for me to succeed. Growing up I was always in love with writing stories about my life, so when it came to my English class it was always a breeze for me. I remember being in Ms. Eaton’s class which was when I first was introduced to how to write a narrative. Not only did this class help me become a better writer at such young age but also improved my reading skills so much. I was always in activities that improved my overall techniques in English.

In Honors English (3rd and 5th), ask students to turn in yesterday’s assignment. They have a test on “A Problem” today, so they should log into their pearson accounts online and take the test. I will check their scores and put them in Skyward asap. Once their test is finished please have them read pages 78-79 in the literature book. Their assignment is to read “Like the Sun” (pgs 80-84) and “The Open Window” (pgs 85-88). They should be looking for instances of paradoxes and irony during each reading. They need to complete the critical thinking questions on pages 84 and 88.

My entire life, I have looked forward to math class; it has always made sense to me. Plugging numbers into an equation and solving for x always came easy to me. Outside of school, I enjoy reading. Easily, I could pick up a book and read the entire thing as time just flies by me. The books I don’t like to read are the ones that I am forced to read in a constricted amount of time. Before this year, I’ve never taken an honors English class; I was the smartest one in my CP class. I never challenged myself which is the reason I decided to take AP English. I didn’t put this on my schedule have my transcript look good, or to boost my GPA, I want to become a better writer. In 20 years, the skills I learn throughout this year will be more important

The five-minute warning bell goes off. I rush to my first class of my junior year, eager to see my classmates, who I was going to spend the rest of the 9 months with. I find myself stumbling into a classroom plastered with decorations of Denzel Washington with a Dr. Seuss book in his hand, a t and college flags galore. My AP English 11 class suddenly seemed so appealing to me. As a beautiful, curly haired short lady stood in front of me and said “Welcome to AP English 11,” I knew that I had found a treasure so much greater than just a pretty classroom. Little did I know, that short lady was going to inspire me throughout my challenge filled second-to-last year of high school.

English 111 has been a great course so far. I have been learning new material that will help me to improve my comprehensive English skills, such as speaking, reading and writing. In this course, we have covered many topics that usually are not presented or introduced to students in younger agers. Sexual harassment is one of the sensitive topics that we have discussed in details. I personally did not fully know what is the true definition of sexual harassment and what form of actions or phrases that we could say that would considered to be forms of sexual harassments or harassments in general. During lectures, we have looked cases of sexual harassments and how we can educate ourselves and be aware of this issue that our communities facing. January of 2017 I started taking an English Comp II class. I was very hesitant about it because I knew I wasn't so good in writing. Coming into the class with a little bit of knowledge was good but I still am not a good writer or where I should be at this point. All the assignments the teacher give is kind of complicated for me because i just can’t come up with ideas to help me start and get through my paper. I wish i could focus better and be able to write papers.

During the course of Mrs Wagner's Accelerated English 10 class I learned a tremendous amount. I learned all about things such as TIQA, ANT, verb tense. I also learned a gamut of vocabulary words. So over the course of the first semester I blossomed as a writer and Mrs Wagner showed me the hidden talents within my brain.

With every paper I write I learn something new. Shortly after starting my first semester of college I realized I would be writing a lot of papers. From term papers in every class, to an English paper due every few weeks. In English 101 I wrote a persuasive paper. With the coming to terms assignment I really dug into someone else’s persuasive paper and dissected it piece by piece. I recalled the rules to writing a persuasive paper and compared it with the op-ed article. I really enjoyed that I was able to do that because I felt that I learned something and I was able to apply my knowledge in a later class. In my opinion, through joining National English Honour Society, I may be able to gain a creative outlet in the subject I am passionate about. My greatest passion is learning new things, and exploring areas that interest me. Furthermore, meeting others that have the same passion for English would be enjoyable. Through this society, I would love to explore and help the community by reading to children, or doing community service related to English. I would love to tutor and help others who struggle in English, since I was not always a strong writer. Most of all however, my goal is to inspire others to have the same passion as I do in learning, even if they find it in another subject area.

This letter is meant to be a way for you to get to know me on a deeper level. You are probably using this letter not only to get to know the lives of the students you are teaching, but also to learn about the writing behaviors of your students. So for this purpose I will try to keep my letter short and interesting in order to not mess up. Before we begin I have a quick disclaimer, I am very sarcastic in everyday life so that does show in my informal writing. I am usually professional for most major papers, but for this paper you will probably see my sarcasm. Now that we have gotten that out of the way let’s start this letter.

When first learning about 1011 option I had bittersweet feelings about it, I love English but I’m pretty lazy. Pretty much being forced into the class I went in skeptical on the course and instructor, asking myself “ do I need this extra work load”? Unless learning is love for someone, I’m sure anyone with the same option to take this course would think similarly. I’m here to tell you that the 1011 course is a worthwhile option for students. The class community, additional supports in 1010, and one on one with instructors make this class an awesome option for any student.

my understanding of themes and ideas such as gender, violence, and privacy and has advanced my sense of critical thinking. It has supplied me with the tools needed to analyze daunting texts which would have been seen as beyond my abilities. This class has enabled me to relate what is currently going on in our modern-day American society with what goes on in the various types of places described in the great works that we read. Over the course of this school year I have also learned some things about myself that I had never known before. This has led to a self-actualization that I would have never saw coming and has changed my views on life in ways I did not think possible.

English is an international language and it is almost compulsory in many countries. In my eight week of English 151B class, I have learned that how important it is for a college student to write effectively while arranging proper thoughts in a paragraph. It is very important to focus yourself while writing about a topic. I have learned about the importance of writing in a good organized way with proper punctuation.

The grade I have earned in English 101 is an “A”. I have earned this grade as a result of the essays, corrections, and quizzes I haves completed throughout the semester. In addition, some fudge factors such as not having any absences and constantly participating in class help support the grade I have earned.

While working on this assignment my eyes were opened. Since I was allowed to use this as an assignment for my English class I was also able to see each of these books through my students' eyes. I asked the students to write a reflective journal after we had all completed these book reviews. In their reflections they were asked to write whether they felt these books would have affected their life differently if they had read them as a child. Although their responses were not as introspective as I would have liked, every single one said these books would have a positive impact on the reader. I have to agree, I think that ignorance can breed fear. The more awareness and knowledge people have about disabilities the less they need to be
