Honors English Assignment Analysis

In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read.

It’s been a great three years of being mentored by you in speech, debate, and finally, AP English Language and Composition. Through those three years of rigorous public speaking and academically challenging work, I can say with sincerity that I am a different person. Now, I know tenfold of what I knew before of high fructose corn syrup, trigger locks, and IRCA. It’s been an unequivocal honor to have met someone with such an intellectual arsenal as you and I have to wonder if I’ll ever meet anyone as knowledgeable even in college. You fended off every single argument that either the Debate Team or the 14 member fifth period AP English coalition threw at you with such ease and class. Wherever you decide to go next, I have no doubt in my mind that you will have the same scintillating impact you had on Suffern High School. Strengths - On the spelling portion of the test, Alex scored a total of 13 out of 22 questions correctly. This score reflects his spelling skills are at an equivalent age of 9-3, and a grade equivalent of 4.4. He demonstrated great knowledge and understanding of the words that were dictated. Alex remained confident and spelled correctly many words that are commonly misunderstood. During the writing portion, Alex obtained a total of 21 out of 24 correct responses in a seven-minute time span. In general, Alex displayed ease and confidence during most portions of the test. He worked quickly and showed few errors. The student was able to quickly read the words and place them together to make a correct sentence. I am here to go through some expectations regarding this AP course with you all as Mr. Spencer is away at a conference. The things I will go over are so that you understand what this class is about, specifically as it relates to the advanced placement aspect of it. As this is an AP English class it’s essential for you to have a basic understanding of how you are to structure content in an essay. This means I will explain what makes a strong thesis and how to back it up with a strong argument and rhetoric. All of this being said, I will also give you information on what exactly is generally expected of you in this classroom as a whole.

On order to effectively analyze “The Writer,” one might look to the Advanced Placement format, for instance, to best understand the meaning of Wilbur’s poem.

The most difficult part of taking the Ap English Literature test was the essay section. Discerning a conversation between both characters in the test and formating a helpful prewrite made it difficult to write the essay with a paragraph per prompt given the 40 minute time limit that should be spent on each essay.

English 111 has been a great course so far. I have been learning new material that will help me to improve my comprehensive English skills, such as speaking, reading and writing. In this course, we have covered many topics that usually are not presented or introduced to students in younger agers. Sexual harassment is one of the sensitive topics that we have discussed in details. I personally did not fully know what is the true definition of sexual harassment and what form of actions or phrases that we could say that would considered to be forms of sexual harassments or harassments in general. January of 2017 I started taking an English Comp II class. I was very hesitant about it because I knew I wasn't so good in writing. Coming into the class with a little bit of knowledge was good but I still am not a good writer or where I should be at this point. All the assignments the teacher give is kind of complicated for me because i just can’t come up with ideas to help me start and get through my paper. I wish i could focus better and be able to write papers.

Within the due course of a lifetime, it seldom becomes apparent that an opportunity, which has the potential to metamorphose oneself, comes just close enough to grasp. It is in the present which I find myself within this position, similar to the prior-mentioned situation, of dreamily grasping at Westminster’s Honors Program for the hope of my own metamorphosis. For I know that, if I am to become a philosopher in the far future, which is my hope and goal, this program will aid me by introducing the rigor of my desired field at such an early stage of my scholarly development. Au contraire, referring to the theoretical benefit of this program towards my future, I believe that the Honors Program will find it quite advantageous to have me due to my vast knowledge, relative to other incoming Freshmen, of critical thinking, classical debate and logic. With every paper I write I learn something new. Shortly after starting my first semester of college I realized I would be writing a lot of papers. From term papers in every class, to an English paper due every few weeks. In English 101 I wrote a persuasive paper. With the coming to terms assignment I really dug into someone else’s persuasive paper and dissected it piece by piece. I recalled the rules to writing a persuasive paper and compared it with the op-ed article. I really enjoyed that I was able to do that because I felt that I learned something and I was able to apply my knowledge in a later class. In my opinion, through joining National English Honour Society, I may be able to gain a creative outlet in the subject I am passionate about. My greatest passion is learning new things, and exploring areas that interest me. Furthermore, meeting others that have the same passion for English would be enjoyable. Through this society, I would love to explore and help the community by reading to children, or doing community service related to English. I would love to tutor and help others who struggle in English, since I was not always a strong writer. Most of all however, my goal is to inspire others to have the same passion as I do in learning, even if they find it in another subject area.

Students in AP Language and Composition (AP3) are required to arrive to the first day of school having completed the “Summer Reading Assignment.” Students are to read Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and the essays listed below. Then, complete the corresponding assignment (explained below). The assignment is to be turned in the first day of the 2015-2016 school year (August 29th, 2015).

So far, I have had great experiences with the English curriculum and teachers throughout Mohansic, Crompond, and Mildred E. Strang and I am sure 9th grade English will be just as enjoyable. I hope to delve deeply into this subject next year to broaden my mind and gain a better understanding of reading, writing, and life in general. I believe that Honors English will be the class for me since I love reading, and I am motivated to improve my writing. I don’t mind how rigorous the course is, as long as I challenge myself, and I mature into a better reader and writer.
