Writing And Writing Of Writing

I was born in Vietnam, and moved to the United State when I was ten years old. The biggest obstacle that I have encountered is the ability of reading and writing . I could not speak, read, and write fluently in English like other people. I did not know why it took me so much time to read a few pages when other kids were almost done with a chapter. I did not know why other kids are doing their essays in the span of a few hours, when I needed to spend a couple days to finish my essays. I have spent eight years of my life of working on my English skills and I am not satisfied with the result. This causes me so much frustration. My earliest memory about reading, writing, and speaking in English was very unpleasant for me. In the many years of learning a second language, Mrs. B helped me start to learn a new language, Mrs. Jon helped me to read better, and Mrs. Remsburg showed me the basic progress that the beginning writers should have.

While writing might seem like a simple task, it can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Sometimes it can be hard to express the ideas in your mind in the words of a paper. This results in a disconnect with what a writer may actually think. A great writer is one that can transform his thoughts into words perfectly. This is a craft that takes many years to perfect, which is why writing is troublesome for a lot of us. Many students also have had bad experiences with writing. Maybe they had a teacher that didn’t try to support them and their writing. They might not have ever gotten the help they needed and may feel that they are in a hole where their writing can’t get better. At this point, they just accept that their writing will never get better.

It is essential to understand that classes taken in grade school do not give students a full understanding of each subject. With the topic of writing, there will always be a new lesson to learn, an aspect to improve, or a differing way to explain. Author Craig Vetter states in Bonehead Writing, “This is your enemy: a perfectly empty sheet of paper. Nothing will ever happen here except what you make happen.” Each story, essay, or response comes from a writer’s experiences. With each attempt at a new piece comes an underlying story of emotions the writer is facing. Each person’s writing is unique and the ideas people have are related to their past experiences and what they believe to be familiar with when deciding which writing style to use. As a high school student, I have learned many things about writing that helped me become the improved writer I am today, but the most essential advice I have received is practice makes perfect. Although there is no actual perfect way of writing, I have discovered that each essay I write, my writing improves. It is easier to spot mistakes, find areas to improve, and ponder elevated word choice to use.

My relationship with writing is hard, my writing doesn’t always flow well. My writing also doesn’t always come easily to me. More often than not, I have to sit and think for long periods of time, for to come up with ideas on how to start my essays. When I start with paper and pen my hand will start aching, and that makes it difficult to concentrate on what I am trying to express through my writing as it takes my mind off what I am currently thinking of writing down. Writing is the course I have always struggled with the most throughout high school, and through my first year of college.

During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my writing pieces in the past, I was very hard-headed about what I thought was correct versus what was actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing.

Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own

When I stop to think about the memory’s that I have made during my first semester of college; there are both good and bad pieces or times that present themselves. Often with many things there are gray areas, and writing would fall in there for me. I fortunately understand now that I have times where I can over look many of my writing flaws. Such as sentence structure! This by far was my biggest problem in this class, and I fully understand why. Personally I have times that will type up a paragraph and never notice the mistake. That is until someone points it out to me. It’s almost like my brain knows that something is wrong with it, but for some unknown reason it won’t register when I’m revising my paper. So as a writer I have realized that I need to take advantage of people around me and get their feedback on my essay’s; because

The easiest part of this project was finishing my informational overview essay because as soon as I got my research together and got past my introduction, everything started flowing out of head into the paper. The most challenging part of this project was finishing my creative fiction essay because I had a lot of writer's block when it came to concluding my story and adding detail.

Writing is always a struggle. You have to analyze texts, search for sources, write multiple rough drafts, check for spelling and grammar issues, cite your sources, and support your statements with facts. The list goes even longer, but this is just enough to make anybody stressed. Everyone can relate to the struggles of writing, and personally, I have fallen victim to many of these struggles. However, even though writing is very difficult, you can gain experience on how to write successfully.

An assignment that I liked was when we had to do the persuasive speech. I really liked that assignment because I chose a topic that I really enjoyed and and also felt comfortable talking about it with other people. Because I liked the topic I was doing research on, I did not procrastinate like I usually do with other assignments. Through this assignment I also got to feel

I struggled with writing more on an assignment. I had to develop a longer analysis in many of my works, but for most I liked to keep it short and simple, which I have learned that that will not be enough. I struggled to find enough relevant ideas and thoughts that came from my own brain to place in my pieces. There were times when I had difficulty searching my brain for thoughts but once I developed an idea, I wrote it down.

Ever since I was young, English has always been one my least favorite subjects throughout school because I did not enjoying writing. Writing always frustrated me because it seemed so time consuming. But as I grew older I came to the realization that writing papers are not as hard as we set it out to be. If you formulate a method to how you will complete the paper, and follow through with it, it makes the entire process so much easier. For example, for all the students who procrastinate with their assignments until the day before it is due. Think about all the time and effort you have to put fourth to complete an entire paper in one day. Imagine how much less effort it would take to simply start working on the assignment at least four days before the required due date. You would only have to spend an hour or two a day to complete the entire essay. All you have to do is develop a plan as to what you want to accomplish each day and a writing strategy to following while writing. Throughout my English courses I have assembled my own writing strategies, and the first step to writing a good essay is pre-writing.

This semester involved many writings that challenged my process in ways big and small. The variety of prompts each had their own details that required me to change perspectives as well as research topics to test my abilities as a writer. The topic that I felt helped me grow as a writer the most was the Personal Narrative. This essays caused me to think in its own way and only after completion was I able to effectively use the methods it taught me in my other assignments.

As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these challenges with each piece they write.

Everyone has a way of expressing their emotions. Whether it’s painting a picture or creating some kind of art. Mine happened to be writing. I have always loved writing because I felt that writing was the only way that I could truly pour my heart and soul out. Whether it was an amazing day or an awful day, I would write it down. What writing meant to me was to confide in myself and write everything that was in my head onto paper. As much as I loved writing, I also despised it. I learned that journaling was completely different from academic writing and somehow, I found academic writing very stressful because of how difficult it was for me to write. There were a few teachers that said I was, in their own words, “an excellent writer”, but I knew those weren’t their most honest words. I wasn’t being hard on myself or was I in any way saying that to get sympathy; I was saying that because when it I took the college exams, I received an average writing score and I know an average score wouldn 't cut it. However, it wasn 't just writing that I struggled with; It was the personal statement that gave me the most stress and anxiety. The process of writing my personal statement made me doubt my abilities in being a good writer and consequently decreased my opportunities in winning scholarships and getting accepted into universities under the UC system.
