Growing up, high school teachers make it seem as if revising and editing your paper is the worst thing ever. Any student who worked long and hard on their assignment and turned it in to get revised, would hate to receive a paper back with nothing but red marks and errors written all over them. This initially gave people the mindset of forgetting about editing their work if all it did was tear them down and point out their mistakes.

Throughout the progression of this course I learned countless things concerning my writing. {Simkin, M. G., Crews, J. M., & Groves, M. J. (2012). While it’s there’s a many amounts of things ‘ve learned throughout the course, there are several things I‘ve learned which include the step by step process, including the correct usage of grammar and properly proofreading my work before I turn it in. I found out i had a major problem with my punctuation usage and insufficient when it came my periods and commas. I’ve invested some time writing through grammarly and other helpful sites to improve my writing skills. I appreciate the assistance and help I received from Mrs. C

These essays show me how much I lack when it comes to descriptive writing. I often use simple vague words to get my point across quicker rather than taking the time to write about the details about the situation or the people or whatever I may be writing about.

While reading “The Writer’s Way”, I began to realize several aspects associated with the context of the material and my own experiences in the academic world (Rawlins and Metzger). The first connection I discovered came when I read section “two Learning Equals Changing” (Rawlins and Metzger 3). Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. When I was reading Writing is Easy by Steve Martin, I was thinking if writing was actually that easy. Then I finished the article and realized that writing will never be easy. Mr. Martin examples on how to make writing easier make no sense. His tip to getting over writers block gets the writer nowhere. He says “got to an already published novel and find a sentence that you absolutely adore. Copy it down into your manuscript” (Martin). What he is saying is plagiarism. If I was to use this method to overcome writer block I would be thrown out of college. I still believe that writer block is real because even the greatest authors struggle with writers block.

The writing of my college essay was quite a process. Normally for me writing comes rather easy, I do not struggle putting my ideas on paper. At first I thought that this essay would be simple to do and not be very stressful. It turned out to be quite the opposite in fact, just brainstorming was a struggle for me. It was difficult for me to think about my life and how it is special. To me, the events that have shaped me do not seem that relevant, at 18 I had never really payed much attention to how certain things affected me, I just lived my life. eventually , with the help of Mary, I came to the realization that having my summer taken away from me due to a broken foot had really changed my life philosophy, it truly changed who I was and my outlook on life.

The first paragraph in the essay takes a form of a vivid description. It starts with a quotation of a teacher giving instructions to start an exam. Then the following phrases in the paragraph take a negative voice tone. The writer was worry about the exam, and he was sur that he is going to fail the exam. All these details make the reader hook to the essay and want to know why the test is a source of struggle for the writer, and why he thinks he is going to fail the exam.

When I write a paper, it depends on how I feel and the other work I have to get done. Once I feel it is time to write, I go straight to the living room and embrace my inner Shakespeare. Normally I write at night. I tend to think better when the sun is down. To be honest, my brain works best when it is slightly tired. My best ideas come from a sleepy brain. While I am writing, I typically have a few tabs open to help me write a better paper. One tab I will aways have open is a dictionary. If I know there is a better word to use but I can not think of it, I will use the dictionary. My writing schedule is plan, procrastinate, then write. I plan out what I will write about the day I am assigned to the essay. Then I will procrastinate writing the essay because I tell myself I need time to edit my plan. Finally I will write the essay the day before it is

One of the tips that has really helped me the when writing and improving my writing is, write your thoughts before organizing them. My mind flows when I am writing a paper or thinking about the topic and I sometimes forget to write everything down, so before I write a paper I sit down and really think about my topic, then I just write words and phrases that come to mind so that when I start my paper I have a general idea about what I want to write.

Being a perpetually anxious person, I tend to be particular in my daily life. I need to clean my room and make my bed before I leave. I must sleep at 9:00pm every night. I have to wake up at 6:00am every morning. I need to do a certain thing at a specific time, or it throws me off. Writing allows me to be messy. It allows me to vomit words and struggle to write a coherent sentence before finally, my thoughts are realized onto the paper. My process is wonderfully disorganized. It is starting to write, eventually erasing everything I've written, starting all over again, realizing that I was straying from my point, and retyping it a second time. It is eleven o’clock on Sunday night. We had no classes Thursday and Friday and Monday is labor day… I thought it was Saturday. I’m checking MyCourses emails and see the date that I have an essay due at midnight, I run to my room, grab my notebook and start scrambling stuff down. My phone starts ringing. I pick it up. I run to the kitchen, grab some Oreo cookies (my mom follows me because I’m not allowed to eat in my room). She’s yelling at me as she sees all my school stuff laid out, “Why did you wait till the last minute? This is so unlike you!” “I didn't know! I thought it was Saturday!” Environment, Time, Behavior, Enhancing fluency, Reducing Anxiety, increasing power and control, these are all part of your writing ritual. The most important
