When you become one of those people who always receive A’s without having to try, you tend to underestimate how easy a class might be. In high school, I never got a grade lower than an A on a paper and never thought that it could be possible. I never really put in much effort on my papers either, but mainly because I did not have to and writing always came easily to me even though my grammar was not the best. In no way am I trying to be boastful, there is a warning for others who come into an English 111 class who are just like me. After taking English 110 this past spring and breezing through it, I thought that English 111 would be the same. During the first week of classes I realized that I was most definitely wrong. I thought, “There are not that many papers. This should be my easiest English class so far!” and I happily put all of the due dates into my agenda. There was a time close to the end of the first week where I realized how hard this class might actually be. A few hours before I needed to be at work I submitted my rough draft paper early. Every ten minutes I was checking my submission on the discussion board to make sure that I could make any changes that needed to be done before the due date that night. This was the first time that I was completely unconfident in myself on whether or not I had written a quality paper, or even did it …show more content…

I have become a much better writer and enjoy exploring my mind for new ways to express myself. It has helped me to not worry about how “perfect” my grades or I am. Of course, I still worry and care about my grades, but I will be more relaxed and not be studying every time I have a free moment. Without this class and the expectations that come along with it, I would still be this uptight and stressed out student. Dr. Aitken really makes you feel comfortable and shows you ways to improve your writing that makes sense to you. This wakeup call was exactly what I needed and I am so happy that it happened with this class; however, this experience has opened my eyes to new ways to improve my writing. Being scared is okay, but being overconfident can lead to utter destruction of your grade if it is not handled correctly. Overall, being confident and wanting to improve yourself and grade are what will bring everything together and help one keep a good grade, without having to get overwhelmed and
