Company Q is a grocery store located in a high traffic area. As a company they are socially responsible when it makes them money. Company Q was socially responsible when it came to giving the customers what they wanted, in this instance it was organic food. As a company they knew that they could make money off the customers buying higher end food. However Company Q wasn't socially responsible when they were asked to donate the day old food to the food bank. They wouldn't be gaining any money from this, they would be loosing money. The money that they spent to either buy this or make the product would be gone. Overall I would say that Company Q is not a socially responsible company. In order for Company Q to become more socially responsible they would need to address the problems they have with volunteering, change the mindset they have, and try and reopen the stores that they closed. Company Q was very concerned about employees stealing, when it came to donating food to the food bank. This problem could be solved by placing a small trusted team in charge of this task. Creating a system that would only allow a few employees to touch that food. That would mean that if the company saw any other employee leaving with food, they would know they were stealing. This small team would collect the day old food, then deliver it to the food bank. Another resolution to the problem would be looking at the date of the food the employee was taking. Most people don't have any interest in taking expired items. If you caught the employee taking food it would most likely be new food. Just by looking at the date, could partially solve the problem. This really benefits the community because they are creating jobs. More jobs mean a stronger local economy. While building these stores Company Q could also make them environmentally friendly. They would be leaving less of a footprint in that community. Letting the community see that the company wasn't hurting anything by being there. The store was taking very little water, electricity, and gas. Then the small things that they didn't like, would be overlooked. The company was helping the community more than hurting the community. It also would help the people around the new store. People like to be able to shop closer to home. When it comes down to someone needing just one grocery item, they aren't going to drive a long way to get that item. No, they will go to the place closest to them. Making Company Q more revenue and making things more convenient for the families around
