III. How does this presentation fit into the class? Why is it important? (250 words strongly suggested)
This presentation fits into the class because we discussed in great depths about the wage gap that our society has between men and women in the workplace. Sandberg makes more than the average male her net worth in 2016 was 1.39 billion dollars. It is important that men and women start being treated equally. Sandberg discusses the issue of why there are only a few women leaders and how to keep women in the workforce to create more leaders. She also talks about how women should act and how society should be treating them. It is important that she addresses these issues because the wage gap not just in America but also all over the world is a huge issue. Right now women working full-time earn 81 percent of what full-time workingmen make. There is a 19 percent wage gap between men and women. It’s 2016 we need to live in a society where both men and women have equal chances in the workplace and we should more commonly see women in positions of power in all different sectors of the work field. Women who are just as qualified, and work the same hours, as men shouldn’t be paid 4 dollars less than men to do the same job. The wage gap needs to be getting

The main causes of the gender pay gap are due to direct discrimination, undervaluing of women’s work and the segregation of the labour market other causes are tradition and stereotypes as well as the expectations of women in their private life. Direct discrimination is where an industry pays a women less for doing the exact same job as a man with the same years’ experience and qualifications. Women’s work is undervalued, this is explained through the fact that female dominated jobs are paid less than their male dominated equivalent. The office lady collecting con notes gets paid less than the Forklift driver. The segregation of the workforce can be explained through the sectors at which women choose to take on. The sectors

The Congress hereby finds and declares the wage gap in America between men and women is a problem that needs to be addressed and remedied. Should people be paid the same amount and treated the same way as others like them with the same experience and skills? The obvious answer is yes, but a wage gap and an unequal treatment of women in the workplace persist in the United States. As John F. Kennedy believed, the Equal Pay Act he passed in 1963 was the start of fixing this problem. Now, more than 50 years from the passing of the EPA, the situation is better but still needs improvement. The wage of women is still about 78% of men’s. In the workplace, many women can be discouraged from even having a family because there would be no way of having a child and having a secure financial situation at the same time. Problems such as the recent failure to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act, the holes in the current Acts, and the political situation in Congress also stagnant the resolution of this problem. In order to rectify these issues, new laws must be enacted to amend previous acts concerning this topic and to introduce policies as well as a new committee to further protect women from discrimination.
1.1 Aim: This report will highlight two methods that can assist in the reduction of the gender gap so that it will increase the likelihood of attaining equal chances for both men and women and also ensuring that the wages given to each one of them are fair.

The wage gap refers to the undeniable differences between men and women within the labor force, which includes the percentage of employees, occupational positions, and their wages (Golden). Undeviating research indicates that women’s wages are overwhelmingly unequal in comparison to men’s. Specifically In the United States, women’s income on average is seventy-six percent of men’s income (Besen 2). A study on the adolescent labor market discovered that gender inequality in pay originates in the workforce when employees are a mere fourteen years old and continues to widen with age (Besen 4). Outline/Description of Problem: The pay gap between men and women has become quite a topic today. The difference in pay are very common now in many career paths where men and women are doing the same work amount. It is rare to think that when men and women are performing the same task and are just as qualified as each other that they would get paid the same.
The presentation on how to present that Steve Liggett gave to our class on October 2nd was highly informative. He had some ideas that I hadn’t thought of and presented it all in a way that was easy to grasp and easy to manipulate to fit the various presentations that I will make this year and in the future.
