Statement of Purpose
Mechanical Engineering has not only given us inventions such as the car that have improved our lives but also captured the imagination of the world through space travel and the Apollo missions. To achieve breakthrough in technology, we will always need great mentors, state-of-art infrastructure and real motivation and Michigan Technological University is one of them. My four year academic curriculum in Mechanical Engineering at Pune University has offered me the perfect blend of theoretical subjects and laboratory work. These academic years help to build solid foundation in the field and made me keen to learn Applied Mechanics, Finite Element method, Design and manufacturing as part of my graduate syllabi. This career planning would help me to achieve my goal to be a part of Mechanical Engineering fraternity. Thus, after intensive personal exploration, I have decided to be a part of Michigan technological University as a first step towards my goal.

Moreover, working on project ‘Design and Manufacturing of Q-car test rig and optimization of its parameters by using DOE’ has enhanced my technical skills in Design, Analysis, Manufacturing, Design of Experimentation, Simulink in MATLAB, Data Acquisition System and its interfacing with LabVIEW, Sensors and its Circuits and many more. The main purpose of the project was to minimize the sprung mass acceleration resulting in increasing the road comfort maintaining the road holding for stability of vehicle by multi-objective optimization formulations for RC and RH. This was achieved by using Design of Experimentation technique of 2k full factorial including 32 readings with replicate, creating a mathematical model of test rig which can be used further for any different pair of
According to projected job employment in the year, 2018, mechanical engineering will have an estimated quarter of a million jobs nationwide. This is an increase of roughly 6% between 2008 and 2018. As the need for better, more economical necessities, a need for mechanical engineers will always be on the uplift. Many mechanical engineers “research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices.” (Bureau, 4). This branch, within the engineering field,
Born and brought up in middle- class family instilled a sense of management very early in my life. Besides this, I owe my technical background to my father; who is a business person in industrial metal-cutting tools. With him, I got the privilege to visit many industries during my school days. This industrial experience sprouted the seeds of engineering in my mind and ultimately I decided to opt for Mechanical Engineering as my undergraduate course of study.
In this letter of intent, I am going to focus on the purpose of studying Industrial Engineering further at the post-graduate level. I have chosen University name because I feel it will best prepare me to fulfill my future career objectives. I jot down my Statement of Purpose with due respect to the Department and the University.
For instance, I undertook rigorous training within group projects in the course of Precision Machine design, and it helped me lay a solid foundation for machine design techniques, like tolerance design, layout design, and selection of machine elements. To meet the strength requirement, I also applied mechanics knowledge to carry out the stress-strain analysis of axle and attach great importance to machine component arrangement for minimizing avoidable loads. With these prerequisite training, my group even designed a plate-flipping machine, with all the details carried out, for example, gear reducer, linkage mechanism and detail drawings; furthermore, aside from fully understanding the physical properties of the mechanical system, I feel particularly satisfied in combining theory with computer-aided software for solving engineering problems. Specifically, I learned to utilize numerical method with Matlab for calculation of complex problems through the course Heat Transfer and Computer-Aided Engineering. As the mechanical system will be more complex in the future, it propels me to persist in learning more advanced theoretical knowledge and computer-aided engineering techniques to strengthen my ability to design an ideal
Later in my plus two I had opted a stream which has its majors in Mathematics and Physics. Fortunately I got to know that these are the two subjects which are majorly required to be a good engineer. I strove hard to get a good command over the basics underlying these subjects and secured with good percentage. All these activities used as a driving force for me to take up mechanical engineering for my under graduation with an intense urge to delve into the challenging
Technology is driven by need. Inventors often have an uncanny skill of resolving situations with their innovations. But what separates engineers from mere innovators is the ability to recognize the importance of sustainable technological solutions for the future. Although many of our needs and predicaments remain the same, the answers keep changing with time. I have decided to go in for graduate study that calls for personal commitment to fulfilling the crafts of independent research and dedicated involvement. I state with integrity and honesty, the following facts that led me to pursue a career in this fascinating field.
Since childhood, my mother has inspired my life by teaching me that the best contribution we can make in this life, and the greatest success we can enjoy comes from helping others to have a better life, particularly poor people. As I grew up, it was very hard for me to see a needy person and not being able to help. So, providing help to others in any possible way became the focus of my life.
More I come to know about machines, robots and mechatronics around me, more is the enlightenment, enjoyment and encouragement within me. I took a decision of doing masters in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in automation and Mechatronics as my first step in order to sustain that drive inside me. The university---------provides-------, ------ which I feel will nourish my dreams and skills to reach out the destination of being a pioneer in the field of my interest.
To me, language is not only a medium of communication, but it is also a mean people use to express their identity and culture. Learning language in any of the aspects and contexts can be advantageous and it can give productive contributions to learning, teaching, and researching on language and linguistics. If anyone asks about the relationship between a language and me, I can say that I see myself in three different positions: a language learner, a language teacher, and a language researcher.
Mechanical Engineering has not only given us inventions such as the car that have improved our lives but also captured the imagination of the world through space travel and the Apollo missions. To achieve breakthrough in technology, we will always need great mentors, state-of-art infrastructure and real motivation and Lawrence Tech is one of them.
Albert Einstein’s words, “Difficulties cannot be solved at the same plane of alertness that created them.” interested me right from my school days and with single-minded allegiance I focused my attention throughout my career in school and college to increase my level of awareness to understand life and the associated problems.
Engineering has been my passion from the start. I took the first step to become an engineer by securing 80.3% in SSC and 91% in HSC. Graduating with 8.755 CGPA in my undergraduate studies is proof that I have a strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering. During the studies, the subjects Internal Combustion Engines, Automobile Engineering, Thermodynamics, Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines, design of transmission systems captivated my interest and also I had the opportunity to
I would spend hours together experimenting and analyzing various mechanics around me like the ball bearings in my bicycle & roller skates and would be fascinated by my spring loaded toy cars. During my higher secondary schooling, I showed special interest in mathematics and physical sciences and in order to supplement the education that I received in school, I became a habitual reader of science magazines and books. As a direct consequence of this, I came to know about the latest developments in the field of science and engineering, especially aerospace and manufacturing engineering as it deeply interested me and I was naturally inclined to like the subject. The basics I learnt in school only whetted my appetite for more learning. It was but natural I would choose to take up manufacturing engineering as a career choice when I joined
When I was a freshmen in AU, my friend asked me to help him out with his small business, since
My curiosity in the engineering stream took roots during my formative years as my family has been associated with this field for over two decades. My maternal grandfather retired as a Chief Engineer, my father is employed as Senior Foreman, Aramco and uncle, as an Executive Engineer. Their achievements in respective domains motivated me to pursue my career in a challenging field and persuaded me to study Mechanical engineering; the field of my choice at my under graduate level.
