Low Carb diets are Reckless and Dangerous?
The Medical and sports nutrition establishment are horrified by the concept of low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets. While studies are being released almost daily proving the superiority of low carb diets for fat loss, the medical establishment warns against trying them as the long term health risks are "unknown". Apparently it is a case of 'better the devil you know than the devil you don 't '.
Dangerous because we don 't know IF they 're safe
This fence-sitting attitude is an absolutely inexcusable disgrace! The devil we know - a devil only revealed as a result of the high-carb recommendations - is epidemic levels of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and depression. Is there any possibility of the unknown risk being worse than the sickness that the health department recommendations have caused? I think not!
There Might be Side Effects
It is the most patronising hypocrisy that the Medical community warn against using a treatment (low carb dieting) PROVEN to cure a disease state
Michael Pollan says in his argument that the western diet is chiefly to blame for a majority of health deceases, he says “the scientist who blame our health problems on defiances of these micronutrients are not the same scientist who see sugar-soaked diet leading to metabolic syndrome and from there to diabetes, heart deceases, and cancer” (421) Due to all this negative impact to our health Pollan says that the food industry needs new theories to better redesign processed food and the medical community to make new drugs to beget deceases.
She challenges the basic assumption of the work by Ian Leslie, in which he seemingly claims that because sugar is the true cause of health issues in Dr. Key’s findings that his work should be discredited. Pett correctly points out that dietary decisions are rarely so objectively one sided, and instead postulates that perhaps both sugar and saturated fats could produce similar effects.

In 1984, the U.S. Government officially recommended that Americans eat a low fat diet. The entire American population hopped on board. Food manufacturers cranked out low fat versions of everything. Nutrition Scientists started publishing studies that support no carb diets. High School lunches became terrible. And even the Media jumped on board. However, what happened in the next decades was an increase in American citizens that have diabetes, despite the numerous ads pertaining to bowflex and hydroxycut.
We’ve been told in the earlier years by nutritionists that some food are more healthy than others, but only to be overturned by later studies. Pollan feels that this orthodoxy is very contradicting as Americans have been assured about how having a low diet helps prevent health issues, but only to be revealed by even more professionals that these foods actually have harmful effects on health, “Sooner or later, everything solid we’ve been told about the links between our diet and our health seems to get blown away in the gust of the most recent study” (Pollan). They have been told that these foods are of no harm, yet to only acquire health issues such as obesity later in their lives. For instance, my friends tried to only eat foods that affirm a low diet, however, it has barely done anything to their health and weight. Surprisingly, these supposedly “low-diet” foods doesn’t provide the vitamins enough for the body to function properly (Miller). It has been said that low diet foods makes people want to eat more than usual because these foods are mostly served in smaller portions that make people think that they are eating
The New York Times’ David Bornstein’s “If Sugar is Harmless, Prove It,” Bornstein recounts his interview with Gary Taubes, a science journalist and recent author of The Case Against Sugar. In this interview, Taubes explains what he feels is a direct link between sugar and insulin resistance and, as a result, America’s widespread epidemic of Obesity. He goes on to talk about the steps he feels are necessary to take in order to end said epidemic.
Due to the imbalance of protein and carbohydrates, many serious side effects are linked to the weight loss plan. Ketosis, "a fasting state," is very common among high protein dieters ("The Dangers . . ."). The body lacks its
Following a low carb diet can be a real challenge some days. For example, I love to go to the movies, but the popcorn is so tempting because I love that as well. Since I only allow myself one cheat meal a week, the idea of using that cheat on popcorn usually isn't at the top of my list. Having some low carb snacks with me can help.
First, let’s look at some of the background information of low-carb diets. Also, we will look at a couple different diets and what their different phases are. A low-carb diet is one that restricts the intake of carbohydrates for the purpose of losing weight. Foods high in carbs, like sugar, bread, and pasta, are often replaced with foods containing a higher percentage of fats and protein, such as meat, fish, and eggs. Other foods low in carbs, which include some vegetables and fruits, are also acceptable. It is also important to
If there is one thing Americans know a lot about its diets. Everything from Weight watchers to Atkins and everything in between has been promoted on televisions, in bestselling books and now advertised all over social media. Each one claiming to be the answer to weight loss, lifelong health and even making claims of reversing disease. Unfortunately even with this inundation, Americans are larger than ever. It’s confusing. Who is right, who is wrong? What can be believed? What can the average person actually attain and stick to? The government even has a say in what people should be eating. The food pyramid and more recently MyPlate have been attempts to steer people towards health. Unfortunately, they have been steering people in the wrong direction. A low fat high carbohydrate diet has been promoted extensively for many years, but it has left Americans fatter than ever So what is the answer? It surprises some and frustrates others, but a high fat, moderate protein and low carbohydrate diet is the way to go. This way of eating is commonly referred to as the ketogenic diet or keto. The ketogenic way of eating is the best diet because it promotes safe, healthy weight management including appetite control, reduces inflammation and high blood sugars, and supports brain health.
The web contains countless testimonials from people who have successfully tried low-carb diets. They maintain that they no longer crave cookies and junk, nor do they have carbohydrate binges any longer. The

There is a kind of power in being informed that is often taken for granted and few people can recognize when their lack of knowledge is detrimental to them. There are many things hidden far beyond the naked eye of the public; one being the evil and greed swarming the food industry and big food corporations. While many Americans are gaining an excessive amount of weight, the government and the doctors in the U.S are gaining an excessive amount of weight towards their personal wallets, by staying out or not doing much in this epidemic because of the destructive power the big food industry and chemical company lobbyists have. Big food industries and chemical company lobbyists control what the FDA approves, believes is safe for human consumption, and the overall food policy. The ethics in the food industry have crumbled as money and power have taken over and while all this is taking place, uninformed people are encouraging their likely heath issues and deaths to this market by giving their money to their murderers. More than two-thirds of U.S citizens are overweight or obese while 32% of children will fall under the same category, and 43% of Americans are expected to be obese in 10 years. So who is going to tell us the truth when it comes to what we are eating and what is really in our food? How dare these corporations allow money to weigh more than the lives of people by feeding them poison to bigger their pockets.
