Sociologist define race as a “socially defined category based on real or percived biological differnces between groups of people”. In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be wrong because there is no such thing as a “pure” race. We are 99.9% genetically idenitcal. Race is just a concept humans made up, it isn’t actually real.

This kind of discrimination in very powerful; it affects a large number of people. Its eradication requires active review of the assumptions and practices by which the institution operates. It is hard to fight certain institutional discrimination; there is a positive tendency in overcoming institutional discrimination at workplaces regarding race and sex (during the interview it is illegal to ask potential candidate the questions about the marital status, sexual orientation, religion, political preferences, age, and national origin); however, people who have not had the same chances in life and didn’t get the best education, tend to have less chances and more difficulties getting the desired job. Criteria like educational background, welfare status, income, qualification, employment history affect the chances of individual in competition to get the job; consequently, the institutional discrimination is more harmful for people than individual discrimination. The term race is a very controversial concept to define not only because of its underlying relations to different ideologies and historical events but also due to the various levels of analysis. Meanwhile, ethnicity “refers to cultural characteristics” (Henslin, 2014). The difference mostly relies in a similar argument to the classic nature versus nurture argument. Race is what a person genetically inherits. Whether it may be skin tone or anatomical features, they are dictated by something outside of a person’s personal preference. An example of race is that a person could be caucasian or latino. They do not get to choose, they are simply given the traits of that race through their bloodline.

People are usually categorized in terms of race and/or ethnicity. Race is a term typically used to classify people according to similar and specific physical characteristics. Ethnicity is a term more broadly used that connects people according to an inherited status such as: a shared ancestry, language, history, religion, cuisine, art, clothing style, and/or physical appearance, etc.

Race is an individual with acquired physical attributes that recognize it from another individual. There are no unadulterated races. Race depends more on the general public in which we live than on our natural qualities. Race is based on an individual's physical characteristics like eye color and skin tone, just to name a few. Race is something that an individual can not change. In the U.S. and countries all over the world poverty and discrimination has had a major impact on society as a whole. In this essay, I will discuss how policies were put into act to help promote, prevent, and address problems related to institutional discrimination. Racism is experienced when minority groups are discriminated against and also when minorities experience some form of prejudicial acts. For instance, one might not be able to obtain a certain job because of their race. Institutional discrimination has caused for social justice because people deserve to be treated equally.
