Imagine that the cruelest person in the world suddenly becoming the kindest. This is what happens in "A Christmas Carol", a play written by Charles Dickens and dramatized by Frederick Gaines. After Ebenezer Scrooge is taken by three spirits on a remarkable journey through time, he realizes his mistakes and starts changing his personality and life style. Throughout "A Christmas Carol", Ebenezer Scrooge changes from being a greedy grouch to a generous man, and experiences forgiveness from the people he loves. At the beginning of the play, Scrooge was a very greedy and selfish man who only focused on his own wealth. Scrooge is rich, but he neglected the people around him including his family and employees. Scrooge realizes that his present choices determines his future and decides to be generous with his wealth and treat people with love. He gives his housekeeper a guinea as a Christmas present and raises her salary. In addition, he tosses money to a young boy and asks him to purchase a turkey to send to the Cratchet's family. Scrooge also understands that in order to be a better person, he has to ask for forgiveness from others. He goes to Fred's house for dinner and asks for forgiveness for being rude and harsh on him. Fred accepts his apology and they have a great time together. Scrooge was given a second chance to change his way of living and transform totally from a greedy man into a generous person. However, not everyone will get a second chance to change life around. Somehow, I am greedy just like Scrooge. Sometimes, I put money or material items before love. When my parents ask me to do chores, I ask if I will get a reward. I do chores only for rewards, but not because I want to help. I am glad that I read "A Christmas Carol" because I have learned a very valuable lesson. When we focus only on wealth, we will miss out many of the more important things in our lives.
