Group F's Speech Analysis

I did a very good job of getting my three points across without confusing anyone. Another thing I thought I did very well was the visuals I brought in. They were very big and everyone in the classroom was able to see them clearly. As the next speech comes around one thing I need to work on is my eye contact. During my shield speech I only looked up a few times, but I never made eye contact individually with any people. Another thing I can improve is how long I practice for my speech. If I would run through my speech a few times throughout the week and the night before my speech would turn out much better. I also made very well written out index cards, but I did not use them as much of an aid. I think that if I practiced a little more than what I did my speech could have flowed better. During my speech one thing that was really unexpected for me was the time. I came into the speech thinking I would have plenty of time to get everything I wanted to say out, but when I started talking about my family I was already three minutes in. Once again his overall posture and confident level was excellent. The speaker shows passion for the subject he is speaking on from the hand movements when he speaks on poverty and domestic abuse as being trivial (a means to an end). The speakers volume was just right he spoke high enough for the back of the room could here, and the speech was easy to understand. When given a speech a speaker should consider his audience in the wording of his speech, is he giving a speech to children for educational purposes or a group of college students, this is call no one left behind so the entire audience is on track.

The speaker’s delivery was good, they were so nice and socialized. They were all standing and walking around the class room when they were giving the speech, they were asking audience questions, discussions and everybody contributed in the class room, they speakers were not loud, their voice was good for audiences, they were speaking slowly so that everybody can understand, they used their hands to explain things and also read PowerPoint to audience, Yes speakers were natural, at ease, direct and communicative which make the speech interesting and understandable to audience. Speakers were organized and they were not using terms that audience may not understand and they were not just repeating one thing. Speech was really going smoothly. Yes there was introduction, which is how everybody generally has their own primary love languages for receiving love and giving love, Body was to known the love languages such as words of Affirmation, Quality time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of service and Physical touch and conclusion was knowing the love languages is powerful, but knowing how they work in your relationships that is the game changer.

The speakers had great voices to go with the characters as well as gestures to add humor to each role (like Anna’s best friend brushing her hair). Their voice was clear and easy to understand as well, which made this speech the top presented one. The second best speech was “Charlotte’s Web”. The beginning of the speech started with a lack of eye contact with the audience. “Charlotte’s Web” was visually creative through both speakers being completely in-sync with sophisticated gestures. Through the use of vocal variety and gestures, the speech became one of the best presented. The third best speech was “The Wizard of Hip”. The rate of speaking was good, but the how much each speaker talked seemed unbalanced. Facial expressions helped add humor to the speech but there were minor things that could have been fixed (like eye contact). I ranked “Same Difference” last because of a couple reasons. While the dance moves and singing was good, they speakers stumble on a couple words and the speaking can be hard to hear at times when they start raising their voices. The speech also involved quite a bit of singing which lost my attention quickly, but the speech was overall very relatable to a large audience. Although these speeches were all had a couple things that could be worked on, they were highly entertaining and were clearly

The speaker did a good job of telling what he told the audience throughout the whole speech. Language - I give the language of the speech a 7. The speech is very wordy and has unnecessary words in it. I believe if the speech was last wordy, the speaker could have driven home the point

3. Was the speech well-organized? Did it have a robust introduction, a solid body with specific main points, and a conclusion? How was the time allotment for each section (too long, too short?) Were the times dedicated to each section appropriate? (Introduction and Conclusion: between 45 seconds to1 minute; Body: main points each 1:15 – 1:30)

The speaker made direct eye contact at all times unless his head was moving to place emphasis on what he was saying. Further, the speaker spoke loud enough to be heard and did not require me to turn my volume up super high while struggling to hear him. Additionally, the speaker utilized a good pace. He moved slow enough for me to comprehend everything he was telling me but fast enough so that I did not get bored and distracted. Finally, the speaker alternated his pitch throughout the speech which kept my attention. Overall, besides the previously addressed issues, the delivery of the speech was great! I would, however, suggest having more time of the speech spent face to face with the speaker for a more powerful speech.

Overall, the performance was okay, however, there were many flaws. My own performance was not at all perfect because I definitely could have done a lot better. I should have taken more action to actually lead the group more, but instead I was a little shy because of the fact that I was the youngest. For example, I should have pushed the group to rehearse more, so we would have been better at our lines. However, I was not the strongest leader and did not do so. In my performance I should have been louder and projected my voice more and I should have done more acting instead of standing. I could have also spoke a little deeper to sound like a boy, but I did not think about that and worried more about my lines than I did the quality of what I was saying.

Overall I found that the Pecha Kucha speech was the most challenging speech we have done so far beside the fact that the information had to be planned out 20 second increments. I wasn't as nervous since I was tired which really effect how well I communicated my thoughts and points across. Although I considered myself an expert on my topic of the fascinating Wes Anderson, I really found it hard express my feeling of how truly wonderful his life and his work is. I kept looking down at my transcript to make sure that my dates were correct and that caused the lack of eye contact with the audience. There's a huge room for improvement with my powerpoint since one slide was out of place which effect my train of thought and made me lose my place. I

The feedback I received was varied. The planning, structure and content of the presentation was good and well structured. Based on this feedback I was happy with the flow and how the presentation came across from this perspective. As a result I don’t think I would change how I went about creating the presentation. Comparing to my pervious speeches, I thought I was more confident and effective. Since we were in the small room, I made sure that the tone and volume of my voices were balanced. Moreover, throughout the speeches I used various hand gestures to help me get connect with the audience. Preparation is one the most effective way to improve in any kinds of speech. Therefore, I could have done better by practice and preparing more.

It seemed to me that multiple individuals in the crowed felt awkward and they didn’t seem to enjoy this part of his speech. Julian seems like a very educated speaker and I felt as though he should walk his points rather than stand statue still from the waist down. I also thought if he worked to keep his hands near his sides, when they aren’t needed for gestures, would help in his pursuit to create a relationship with the audience, instead of closing them off. For his power point descension, I would’ve tried to keep my slides all the same darker theme, and add more emphasis in his own voice to make it clear what is right and wrong. Julian presented many tips that could potentially help anyone who’s trying to advance their speaking skills.

Walking into a speech called “The Importance of Being a Global Citizen” I was pretty convinced this might be a boring “do this, do that” speech. The way Braun started was quite uninteresting, but then built the attention up towards the stage. Braun involved the whole audience by asking questions such as “Have you traveled? Do you have kids? Are you a grandkid?” Not only did this involve the whole audience, he used comedy and made all of us laugh with him to grasp our full attention. Braun started showing funny pictures and videos that went along with what he was trying to pursue really added a comic feel into his speech. Me as well as the audience enjoyed that comic relief and made Braun’s speech more engaging and intriguing. He showed us clips of a little girl getting pushed off the diving board into the pool relating back to leaving your comfort zone and needing that push. I also did not have very solid transitions. From watching the speech, it seemed like I just moved on to the next topic once I ran out of things to say about the current topic without bridging the gap between topics.

First, we talked about what we did in the summer, in order to establish a good base point at where we are and to see how well we are with speaking in front of a group. I’ll be starting off saying some of the things I believe I did well, I was loud so the whole class could hear me it's not hard to hear me in the video so that is why I believe I was loud. Also, I had emotion when I was speaking and was clear so you could understand me, when you watch the video you can see them both that I did them well. Next, I’ll talk about the things I didn't do so well, the biggest thing I did wrong would be reading off the note card. When watching the video you can clearly see i’m reading directly from the card therefore I had no eye contact either. I also swayed from side to side, and stuttering sometimes. I am really surprised to see the stuttering and swaying I didn’t notice I was doing that tell I seen the video. That is the first presentation we accomplished and was definitely not the best.
