First Day, First Sight I had heard the rumors of a new kid coming to our school. The rumors sounded horrid, a deformed face, an ork, a goblin all the word used to describe this kid August Pullman... All those words were true. The first time I had seen August was the first day of school. I saw him with his parents, I was with my friends watching him talk to his parents. I felt guilty because my friends were talking about him laughing about him. I wanted to tell them to stop, but I knew they would just keep doing it. I could tell August knew people were talking about him by the way he looked around. I walked away from the group I was standing with and went to my first period class, english with Mrs.Petosa. I walked in and found my …show more content…
Then one day in the science elective we were doing an experiment. Everyone doing the experiment were on one side of the tale and then on the other side there was August. I personally didn’t mind August and if he touched me I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it. However, Ms.Rubin noticed we were all squished to one side and she sent two of us over to the other side, Tristan and Nino. During the experiment August accidently touched Tristan. Tristan freaked out because of the game and went over to immediately wash her hands. While she did this August looked sad, mortified like he had done something wrong. At that moment August looked like he had a million ideas swirling around his head his eyes got watery but he never cried. August had found out about the game. I went up to August after the elective and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and said, “Shouldn’t you go wash your hands now?” I looked at him and said, “That games stupid just forget about it. Julian came up with it, but it will die down soon.” August looked relieved that I was talking to him and not freaking out about touching him. August then said, “thanks.” and walked away. August was a cool guy but I could never talk to him for more than a couple minutes because I had nothing else to say. I wish I did though because he was a cool guy and would probably be a cool
I walked into the classroom and started setting down chairs and wiping down tables. Ms. Justine was getting excited pulling out the children’s shirt that they had tie died the day before. Ms. Alyssa liked the shirts. Lucy F. came in first and Ms. Justine said “Lucy F. what do you think should I give you your shirts now or later today?” Lucy F. said “I think you should give them now.” Ms. Justine gave Lucy F. and Lucy F.’s mother their shirts as they held them up and looked at them. Lucy F. said “It’s so pretty.” Chase came in and asked to see his shirt and then Manaf, Lucy B., and Assel all came in and asked to see their shirts. Mr. Scott went out and got the rest of the class including Lucas, Jason, Ryker, and Jacob. I asked Lucas what he had
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go to a new school with no friends and a different face? To have everyone look at you and make a repelling face? That’s what it was like for August Pullman in the 5th grade. Auggie is different that everybody else in 5th grade. Auggie was born with a facial deformity so he looks different that other people he has had 27 so far in his life. Auggie goes to a school called Beecher Prep. In my opinion Beecher Prep has had a positive effect on Auggie’s life because now he has made more friends like Summer, Jack Will, Max G, Max W, and Reid. Sometimes it is hard for auggie to fit in when people like julian step into the picture, but overall Beecher Prep has made Auggie’s life a little easier.
One day Adam had arrived home from school, he laid down his backpack in the living room. Then he had gone down to the basement to see what his parents are working on-Adam's parents converted the basement to their own personal laboratory- he waved at them through the looking glass, he had moved his hand over to the intercom to talk to his parents. Adam had pressed the button and started to talk,”Hi Mom and Dad, how was your day?” then his father says “Oh you know same old, same old just working with some highly toxic chemicals in here”, Adam let out a chuckle. They had continued to talk about their not so mundane life when all of a sudden Adam starts hearing the labs alarms blaring. When his parents realized what they had done it was too late.
Cn discussed a recent event that she kissed a "doll" on the lip and she felt bad about it. Th and Cn processed the incident for Cn to learn that it was not something to be embarrassed.
A school day went like this, we’d go to breakfast and wait in the line scoping out the cafeteria to see who we’d be in class with and who we’d get in trouble with. Then there comes first period with Mrs. collins, she teaches social studies and her class was pretty boring. I’d take notes each day and secretly laugh at my friends as they’d try to doze off, constantly looking at the clock knowing that in an hour I’d be in my “fun” class where I could relax. So it's time for next period and this was science class taught by the coach of all boy sports so we didn’t do much. We opened a book on our desk to whatever page he had written on the board, and the rule was: whenever someone comes to the door act like you’re working. Now, don’t get me wrong occasionally we would do assignments and take a quiz or two, but we had it pretty easy, except for the days after the games and the boys did bad. A victory meant we would watch a movie and a defeat meant we’d have to read the chapter, answer the questions at the end, and turn our work
Then I went to language and sat down next to Makenzi, Taylor, and Itzel. Makenzi gave me a piece of gum and the rest of class consisted of reading a stupid story. Then Mrs. Morrone told us our homework which was a work book page. 10 minutes after that she dismissed us and I stopped at my locker. I opened it with ease and took out my science textbook and workbook. I sat down next to Taylor and we talked about our science fair project, which is due in January. All of a sudden, Mrs. Dainton screamed out, “Ah, a spider!” The whole class laughed and screamed. Mrs. Dainton took off her black shoe and tried to hit the spider, but she missed. She aimed again and finally hit it. She told us to quiet down and do our homework, we didn’t. Makenzi continued to laugh and make jokes. “Makenzi, come here,” yelled Mrs. Dainton. Makenzi didn’t so she got a referral. When Makenzi left, the class quieted down and continued working. Mrs. Dainton quietly dismissed us and I stayed because that’s where I have advisory. I worked on homework, and when I was done I read my book. The book I’m reading is called “After Eli”. The bell rung, I put up my chair, and I
The children came walking over to the carpet to sit down for story time. “Miranda.” I said “It is time to join our friends on the carpet for story time.” Miranda walked over to the play kitchen and sat down in a leather chair apart from the rest of the group. I walked over to the circle time carpet and sat down on the tile floor outside of the carpet. Ms. Alyssa said “Miranda we are reading a story now so, you need to come and sit with the rest of us.” Miranda stood up and walked to the middle of the classroom but, stopped there and stared at Ms. Alyssa. Ryker was walking around the classroom. Ms. Justine said “Ryker, it is time to sit down and listen.” Ryker looked at Ms. Justine and said
At least everyone in the school tries to be nice to Auggie, although he is changing the school by attending. “The next day at lunch stupid me sat down at a table with Tristan, Nino, and Pablo. I thought maybe they were safe because they weren’t really considered popular, but they were out playing D&D at recess, either…” This is why everyone needs to be treated fairly and everyone needs to be given a chance. “They all said “Hey” though I could tell they looked at each other.
I heard all the groups talking at once all the counselors telling girls what to do. “ Anya come on’’ Evelyn told me in a little bit of a harsh way “what ?” I asked “were getting life jackets” explained Evelyn. Me and Evelyn were doing the tippy test with the canoes. We were at camp newaygo, were us and two of are other friend were doing a week long sleep away camp and one of the thing that me and Evelyn did was going canoeing and today was our last day, and we were doing the tippy test were you practice what would happen when you fall in the water. “Anya” said Evelyn now sounding mad. “Oh ya sorry I was spacing out” I explained as I tried to hide my embarrassment.
Everyone is staring at the new kid in class. In this case, that person is August who is just a boy in the sixth grade with an unordinary face. People’s actions toward August in Wonder are unrealistic from real world situations.
August Pullman a 10 year-old who lives in the neighborhood of North River Heights in Manhattan. He has a face deformity, which he calls "mandibulofacial dysostosis", which is known as a cleft palate. His nickname is "Auggie", another name referring to August. Auggie had been homeschooled by his mother, but his parents decide to put him in Beecher Prep, a private
Then Ms. Peterson wandered toward me, at the very back of the classroom. “Look out man, she’s coming”, warning Thomas my best friend, he was sitting next to me prouder and happier than anyone in the class- he believes I could get an A+ for English, after reading out my narrative story. When Ms. Peterson finally arrived at my desk, she exclaimed with a smile, “Bravo Luke, Bravo. I never knew you were quiet the writer”, “Thanks Ms., I didn’t know either.” Ms. Peterson’s smile faded faster than you can say smile, her radiance disappeared when she peeked at my English book. “Luke, did you make up the whole story? You have only written ‘Once upon a time’, and your page is filled with drawings. Luke, you have a talent, you should make a story for the ‘Young Writers Award’, the entry close at the end of the term, I am very impressed with your narrative making skills”. With that, she finishes her lecturing, she quickly marched toward her desk then she frantically opened her drawers and was checking for something. “Bingo!” She stated, she raised her hand which held a colorful piece of paper. “While Ms. Peterson was at her desk, “Thomas declared “I told you that you’ll get and A+”, I answered him by saying no one said that I was getting an
Next, Auggie brought his friends from his school. In the text says “Jack, Summer, Reid, Tristan, and Max came from school. August didn’t get hurt from bullies. “So far nothing bad has happened to me”. Auggie didn’t want
Teacher Teddy says, “Clap.” He claps his hands. He yawns, then he looks at Teacher Jeffrey. He imitates Teacher Jeffrey’s actions. He raises his hands, then he clenches his hands into fists. His classmate, a boy, pats his hand. He says, “mam-pa.” He holds the hand of the girl beside him, then he raises his and the girls hand and waves it in the air like his classmates do. He stands. He and the girls hugs each other. While hugging, he stares at his stomach then his partner. They separates, then hugs again. He looks at the stomach of his partner. The music stops. He pushes his partner. He lies on his stomach, the he sits
Leah interrupts my thoughts. She asks me the time. I tell her to buy a watch, expecting her to go back to work. She then demands me to listen to her paper. She reads me the paper and we begin to go off on extreme tangents of her observations (she is doing the same paper). While laughing hysterically we realize where we are. Back to oberservation. The two boys to the left have left now and a guy and a girl now occupy the table. They are doing a project and both appear uneasy. She gives him a look as he is spouting out information, like one of those this-sucks-that-my-teacher-picked-the-partners type of looks. As he talks about economic theory' she stares at him and all of the sudden blurts out, " That's so wrong, do you even know what you are talking about?' The boy stutters to recover, but is pushed down before he can refute her comments. " How about you sit there and look pretty and I'll do the project. I can't afford to fuck up". With that she got up and stormed out of the library. He sat there for moment shocked with disbelief, then looked over at me and said, " Somebody obviously PMSing", then he packed up his things and left. Leah interrupts my thought. She asks if we are going to the game; I tell her we are, expecting her to go back to work. She then reads me her paper, which now consists of ten lines instead of seven. Back to observation. We are now the only people left except for the boy sitting all alone. TAP TAP TAP
