Writing Improvements Writing in college is often a huge transition for incoming freshman that do not have a very good writing background. I came from a high school where education was not taken very seriously, and the teachers did not take pride in their teaching. My grammar and punctuation skills were weak, and the whole thought of writing a four to six page essay was a very stressful thought. At the beginning of the semester I had already learned more in writing then what I had learned in my whole four years of high school. I have passed essays two and three and have started to see my writing skills progress as the semester goes on. The progress I have made throughout the semester is why I feel I should pass this course. I have learned proper grammar, developing paragraphs, and my incorporation of sources has improved to back up my writing. To start, my grammar and punctuation had me worried when beginning this class. I remember starting this class my teacher had mentioned that having more than 15 errors was a not passing essay. I was not for sure how to write a proper essay with proper punctuation and grammar, and within the first few weeks of class I felt I had learned more in writing than I had in all four years of high school. With using proper punctuation my biggest struggle was using commas. I struggled all throughout high school, and I feared this would really affect my papers in college. Within the first two weeks I had finally learned the proper use for commas,
I was born in Vietnam, and moved to the United State when I was ten years old. The biggest obstacle that I have encountered is the ability of reading and writing . I could not speak, read, and write fluently in English like other people. I did not know why it took me so much time to read a few pages when other kids were almost done with a chapter. I did not know why other kids are doing their essays in the span of a few hours, when I needed to spend a couple days to finish my essays. I have spent eight years of my life of working on my English skills and I am not satisfied with the result. This causes me so much frustration. My earliest memory about reading, writing, and speaking in English was very unpleasant for me. In the many years of learning a second language, Mrs. B helped me start to learn a new language, Mrs. Jon helped me to read better, and Mrs. Remsburg showed me the basic progress that the beginning writers should have.
Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own
Completing freshman composition is one of the greatest accomplishments I have achieved throughout my high school career. I have experienced an immense amount of improvement on my writing as well as a huge deal of stress throughout the semester. In the past, writing was never one of my strong suits; however, I have learned quite a bit, for example, how to use semicolons, write with metacognition, and how to correctly do a works cited. During my time in this class, I have: reflected, set goals, learned the writing process, tracked my progress, and learned a huge deal about myself, life and college.
I have never been an excellent student and perennially struggled with English, Math, and Science growing up. These subjects would cast a pall over my day and school work. Anxiety would well up inside of me which often resulted with me passed out across my desk sleeping through parts of class. When I would return home at day’s end, I rarely completed my homework. When I did try to complete homework, it often ended in tears of frustration or the hurling of a book across the room. Taking this class has helped to quell a portion of that anxiety and frustration. It was a grueling class, seemingly impossible at times, but taking this class has given me the confidence to know that not only can I finish the class if I work hard but can also excel! Writing is something that I will exercise throughout my college curriculum and my life. It will help to convey my ideas to the instructor, peers, bosses, and co-workers. In my college curriculum, it will also show my instructors that I’m learning the information provided and how to apply that knowledge appropriately. It will allow me to complete assignments, discussions, and reports, and I will also apply writing in basic communication when necessary.
What I usually did prior to this class, is just skip the pre-writing and jump right on to writing. Because of that habit I usually ran out of ideas when writing, and result in unnecessary information and details in the essay. The reason why I did this is that I want to meet the requirement of three page. But after I learn how to properly write an essay, my writing started to improve. As professor Michals commented on the interview essay, “You’ve got a lot of writing here! It’s almost too much.” I wasn’t brainstorming at home nor organizing the sentences. I just cramp every information I got from the interview into the essay, and that action resulted by a C at the very beginning of the semester.. From the moment I got back the essay, I know I have to change my writing process in order to do well in this class. The teacher has also pointed out others weakness I have to improve, and the biggest one is grammar and punctuation. I started to follow the professor's advice and
I remember when I first came to the Wilkes University, one of my edifier (?) (Friend, teacher, mother) told me "Don’t judge your class in the beginning, judge your class at the end of course”. In the beginning of my classes I was very nervous about how to write an essay. However, I believe my writing skills has effectively improved. To be honest, English 101 wasn’t an easy class for me in the beginning. College writing is entirely different from high school writing. I always have trouble with grammar when I write English essays, and it’s harder for me to learn and improve my skills in a short amount of time.
At the beginning of the semester I entered General Studies Writing 1110, not knowing what to expect. I knew the class was solely based on writing and perfecting personal style, but I never anticipated the valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class I have taken in high school was English Honors in eighth grade. That class gave me the base knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class. Starting out, I was not sure what the standard for passing was; even though it was unclear to me what passing was, I strove for perfection. As a writer, I can adopt a system of writing that I can use most of the time. To be involved through all the composing process, I need to gather all the tools that I need such as paper and a pen, a typewriter, or a computer. I must also choose a suitable writing environment or place, and then apply my writing techniques and skills. The writing process has different ways and steps, allowing each writer to develop his or her writing in his or her own way. By describing all the steps I go through when writing, I really show my unique style of writing which can be different from the style used by others.
The first day I walked into Freshman Composition I had the idea that everything assigned was going to be extremely frustrating and difficult, as this is a college class. Equally important, my expectations for the class was to earn at least a B, further my writing abilities, and learn more about college. As the semester started, I noticed that my writing was not at the college level and I needed to learn how to improve it. Along with improving my writing, I was also able to learn about college life. With this essay turned in and handed back, I began to realize my writing needed practice and critiquing. Furthermore, I gave myself goals to achieve in Freshman Composition, I have learned useful tools to improve my writing, and I have learned more

The next morning (Y/N) slowly woke up, sitting up and rubbing at her eyes. She blinked a couple of times before looking around the room. She went to go get up before doing a double take, her eyes widening. Sitting in random places in her room were all of the characters from The Outsiders, at least all of the characters from Darry's gang. She tried not to start freakout, looking at everyone. They were just like she had imagined them.
Starting college during high school was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made. I have learned so much being part of a college English class. Some weaknesses I had before in my writing turned into strengths because of this class. I also learned a lot about my interests and other weaknesses I never knew I had. One of my weaknesses, organization in writing, improved immensely. My improving organization made my papers more interesting and intriguing. My grammar and punctuation also improved due to the in-class quizzes we took every so often. My grades on essays increased greatly throughout time because of my strengthening skills on grammar and punctuation. The writing process was different for each essay, but it also improved. I became
At the other hand, the English class has helped me build my personal assurance to reveal myself or perhaps expressed myself with words; that have been particularly fascinating personally. I've found delight in written essays. For me to get to that point it took me practice. With my first essay, “Love and Gold”, my professor had a conference with me to discuss about my essay. The professor and I went over it and I observed countless words were not written correctly. I perceived that some sentences did not make any sense. Reflecting back from the beginning of the semester, I can honestly say that I believed that I was already a really good writer. However, I have struggled with the thought of writing. Ever since I was little, I dreaded the thought of writing essays, but when it came down to get the job done I never struggled and always earned good grades. Up until around half way though this semester I still had this fear. I am thankful that this class has made me overcome the fear and thought of writing essays, even though when it was actually time for me to write them I did just fine. When I first started the class I was struggling a lot. Since English is my second language, I had many stressful moments that made me think about dropping my classes. But when I thought about my future, I just kept studying even harder, waiting for my performance to improve. As a result, I felt like every time I wrote an essay, it got easier, which tells me that I’m on the right path. In addition, this class has helped me improve my grammar, taught me an important life lesson about sticking on my goal and helped me to enhance my computer skills
