Week 5 Assignment Kanit Dararutana Dr. Thomas Hennefer BUS 642 – Business Research Methods & Tools Ashford University 4 February 2013 Week 5 Assignment Making Research Decisions 2) Suppose you were preparing two-way tables of percentages for the following pairs of variables. How would you run the percentages? a) Age and consumption of breakfast cereal. Here I would use cross tabulation because there are two variables and start by listing age in the left most column. Each row would represent every age concerned, and then the following columns would be the amount or type of cereal consumed depending on what the question desired. b) Family income and confidence about the family’s future. Again I …show more content…
The design included a number of survey questions with varying number of choices. Most of the questions required the surveyed person to decide on scales of 1-3 or 1-4. This will allow those taking the survey to find where they fit, but will not determine if certain parameters are a little above the middle or greatly above the middle like question 4a which states has increased or has decreased – we wont know by how much or how impressive it might be. 5) Critique the survey used for the study. Because the survey allows for check all that apply, some data, when compared in the situations where the variable was a part of the “all that apply” question, may be confusing because information may be counted twice or more times. 6) Prepare the survey for analysis. Set up the code sheet for this study. How will this study be set up to be tabulated by a statistical analysis program like SPSS? I would detail the data as a cross-tabulation with control and nested variables. On the left-most column I would list the various choices for question 1. Each row would represent that the user was a specifier, reccomender, purchaser or approver for the specific classification. Then in each column after, each question would list all of their sub questions and each of their choices, so the next column would be if they faxed for immediate product/service and their percentage and the column after that faxed for a nonimmediate product/service, followed by did not do in the
Something incredibly hard that every child needs to experience is telling their parents that they are really interested in pursuing something. Even if their parents are against the decision of the child, both parent and child need to know the differing viewpoints of the other person involved.
The company is in direct violation of the ADEA of 1967 which states (2)“certain applicant and employees who are 40 years of age and older are protected from discrimination on the basis of age in hiring, promotion, discharge, compensation, or terms, conditions or privileges of employment.” In this case the 68 year old employee could sue the company based on Age Discrimination and win.
b. Design a program that calculates the total amount of a meal purchased at a restaurant. The program should ask the user to enter the charge for the food, and then calculate the amount of a 15% tip and 7% sales tax. Display each of these amounts and the total.
Next, you would decide on how to word the questions, then you establish how you want the flow of the survey and ensure the questionnaire meets with the original objectives.
Choose a study design that you feel would work to answer your research question and answer the following below:
In the first WWYD episode I learned that societies in America can be racist and sexist. It shows this in the first episode when the white male was trying to steal the bike while making it very noticeable. As the day went on no one really tried to stop him except for the older folks. Nearly 100 people walked by and only those two tried to stop him. Then when they brought out the black male everyone started to pay attention and were calling the police, so does this example from the first episode show that a majority of the society are stereotypes about race saying that only white man/woman do nothing wrong. This leads me to my next point, do you think that having children on leashes is bad parenting.
Describe the data collection method you are using and the frequency with which you collect the data for your research project. Include a description of your assessments and your guidelines for analyzing the collected data.
This week is very significant; it is practice time. I get to create my own survey. I chose to be creative although I had to face some challenges and issues. I developed a survey containing 10 different questions.

The surveys response items in the scale should be structured in a manner that is congruent. An even number of responses should also be used to minimize avoidance to the question, (Panorama Education, n.d.).
The majority of the data collected in this survey is solely nominal or categorical in its level, without any numerical values assigned (though numbers could be assigned to the categories if desired, so long as it is understood that the numerical identifiers have no significance beyond their identifying purpose) (Rubin, 2009). Several of these elements are binary nominal variables (i.e. "yes/no" questions), and there are also four elements that progress beyond the nominal level to the ordinal level of measurement, however none of the elements progress beyond ordinal to interval or ratio measurements. Each of the individual items on the survey instrument is assessed for its level of measurement below, with explanations:
Questionnaires are essential in survey research. All surveys must contain some sort of questionnaire. This mechanism or surveying makes sure all participants are asked the same questions, making the results more comparable. There are three types of questions that can be asked in a questionnaire. The first type is an open-ended question. Using this form, the respondent can answer using their own words. This allows for more depth in the data being collected. The second type of question is a closed-ended question. The respondent must choose from a list of answers, this allows for more efficient interpretation of the data. The final type of question is a scaled-response question. Under this style the respondent usually ranks items on a given scale, such as a scale from one to ten. In this case, Olive Garden will choose five questions to place on their questionnaire, along with deciding how to target the survey to the right customers.
The second question required the participants to give weightage to the SERVQUAL dimensions emphasizing on their importance and keeping the total to 100. The last question was about the participant’s demographics, where the gender, study area, membership
Multiple variables of data can be captured at a time as participants are required to provide detail information such as name, gender, address etc. while doing the survey.
This research collects data in numerical form which then can be put into categories, in rank order or in units of measurement. This type of data can be used to draw graphs and tables of raw data. Closed questions on a questionnaire would generate data as these produce either numerical data or data that can be put into categories (e.g. “yes” or “no” answers). Questionnaires often seem an easy option as a way of collecting information from people. They are difficult to design and the response rate is always going to be a problem. As with interviews, you can decide to use closed or open questions, and can also offer respondents multiple choice questions.
