Proctoring
1. Proctoring and the reason why UoPeople requires proctored exams
Proctoring means to monitor a student while giving exams by a responsible individual. “Proctoring is an impartial monitoring or supervision of a student during their examination by a responsible and impartial individual appointed for the same.” (University of the People, personal communication, June, 30 2016)
Some courses require a proctored exam and every student must take the required proctored exams prior to graduation. If any student do not take the proctored exams for any reason whatsoever, will fail the course and will be given grade “F” regardless of the student’s performance in the course so far.
This is to make sure that all students are assessed fairly and have attained the necessary knowledge regarding the particular course. All courses are online and studied at one’s own comfort. But, there are courses which require a thorough and basic understanding of the subject. Those courses need to be proctored to assess a student’s understanding. This will refrain the students from cheating and will help them in the long run.

We can see from both of these dictionaries, there is an agreement, that a proctor is someone appointed to supervise students in an examination. I have had plenty of experiences with proctors since I was in high school. During a test called the "FCAT" in Florida, and also during AP Exams, all students in my school were given an assigned room to take a test in, and were assigned a proctor that watches over them. The teachers in the school, were not allowed in the classrooms, so the students won't cheat,

Proctors are used to validate the integrity of the test taker. In different industries and with various age groups, Proctors supervise the testing environment to ensure that the test is fair, materials are provided, and to give assistance is there are any issues or difficulties. Proctoring is basically monitoring examinations.
When testing multiple students with different proctors it seems as though things aren’t fair. Though if everyone takes notes on why they graded things the way they did it’s easier to average out everyone’s exams. For me I just made a mental note of what I was looking for and what a student needed to do to get credit. I kept the same standards for every student that I tested. Along with that it’s important not to be bias depending on the student. You shouldn’t know the student on a personal level or have taught them because this could lead to unfair
