The Transportation Future of Jackson Hole and its Surrounding National Parks
Jackson Hole, Wyoming & Grand Teton National Park:
The Grand Teton National Park is in both Teton County, Wyoming and Teton County, Idaho, along the border of both states. Surrounding the park on the Idaho side are the communities of Teton Valley, Driggs, Swan Valley, and Victor. On the Wyoming side of the range are the towns of Hoback Junction, Star Valley, Moose, Pinedale, Wilson, Alpine, Teton Village, and the famous high- end ski town of Jackson Hole. Due to their proximity, these places are often referred to as Gateway Communities, Jackson Hole being the largest and most economically successful of them all. There are other parks and preserves near Jackson Hole including Yellowstone National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, and Caribou Targhee National Forests (Town and County Planning Office, pg. CV-3-16). The transit systems within the National Parks system, Gateway Communities, and those linking them both together are extremely impactful to the natural environment and the park’s visitor’s experiences. Currently the Grand Teton National Park has no transit system within its boundaries, yet it is and has been considering one for years. At the time of the 2010 Census, the population of Jackson Hole was 9,577 (Wikipedia, 2016) and currently it grows by approximately 52,000 in the Summer tourism season, and by 5,000 in the Winter tourism season (Jackson Hole Chamber, 2016). This presents the
Ever since my dad was a young boy he has wanted to visit all the National Parks in the United States. We’ve already been to The Grand Canyon in Arizona, The Badlands in South Dakota, Biscayne in Florida, Mesa Verde in Colorado, and many more! This time we were headed for Colorado where National Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, is located. I was really dreading this trip. I’d never heard of this park before and neither had my friends. All the other parks we’d been to have been really interesting and enjoyable, but Black Canyon of the Gunnison most likely won’t be.
Yellowstone National Park is one of the largest and oldest national parks in American history. Yellowstone was the first park to be protected by private investment on March 1, 1872, and the first to be put under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service in 1918, no doubt due to its unique and inspiring landscape and geothermal features. In fact, Yellowstone National Park is home to half of the world’s total hydrothermal features. These awesome attractions draw an incredible amount of visitors, an average of two to three million each year, to Yellowstone’s immense landscape. The park has a total size of 28,125 square miles, is found in three distinct states, and is considered to be one of the largest
One threat to the Mojave Desert today is off-road vehicles. These vehicles end up causing damage to wildlife and cultural resources. Unfortunately when these vehicles are driven throughout areas such as Johnson Valley, they cause damage the wildlife on the protected land. These off-road vehicles are driven recklessly and for the most part the driver will not stop. Consequently, the plant or animal that was in the way of the drivers course is crushed and dies. When this happens in areas like this, the while entire environment can be affected. One single plant or animal killed by an off-road vehicle starts begins a chain reaction of resource loss. These off-road vehicles are actually churning up the soil and this causes damage to the plant roots
From what I had learned, Yellowstone National Park was the first national park ever to be established in the world. It had over 3,500 square miles of beautiful scenery and wildlife. The park itself was mostly located in Wyoming, however, less than 5% was located in Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone has been a park since March 1st, 1872, and since then there have been hundreds of thousands of tourists that go there each year to see the amazing things it has to offer. Old Faithful, one of Yellowstone's main attractions, is a
Hawaii and Wyoming are two states often visited because of the variety of activities they offer. Even though both states appear different, they actually do have similarities. Hawaii is a tropical island with a moderately warm climate year round. Because of its climate, visitors generally enjoy outside activities. Wyoming is a landlocked state that usually has cooler climate. However, in the summer, it can rival Hawaii for heat. In Wyoming people spend a great deal of time driving around, taking pictures and exploring new “bucket list” places. Also, activities such as hiking, wagon riding, and cookouts allow people to be outside during their visit. [Thesis]: Although both Hawaii and Wyoming have similarities such as amazing
“The human history of the Yellowstone region goes back more than 11,000 years. From then until to the very recent past, many groups of Native Americans used the park as their homes, hunting grounds, and transportation routes. These traditional uses of Yellowstone lands continued until a little over 200 years ago when the first people of European descent found their way into the park. In 1872 a country that had not yet seen its first centennial, established Yellowstone as the first national park in the world. A new concept was born and with it a new way for people to preserve and protect
There are many viewpoints on this subject and I think it is hard to find the facts that have not been altered or slanted by people with their own opinions. By the year 2007 the facts are supposed to be presented and addressed to the House of Representatives.
For the most part, everyone is pretty familiar with the Dakota Access Pipeline and the protests that surround it. A 1,172 mile pipeline project

The transportation of people and goods has changed over the years of mechanization and development in Vermont. Beginning with horse, transportation was long and tedious. Eventually, the railroad system made its way to Vermont, which eventually led to the introduction of the automobile. The history of the railway and automobile are an important aspect of Vermont history, each leaving their own mark on the land and impacting Vermont in different ways.
It is believed that Native Americans inhabited the lands of what is now Yellowstone National Park for more than 11,000 years, until approximately 200 years ago, when European settlers began to drive many of them from their homelands. In 1872 Yellowstone was declared the world’s first national park as a way to preserve and protect the land for the “benefit and enjoyment of future generations.” (National Park Service) Yellowstone National Park covers a vast area in the Northwestern United States. Its landscape is very complex and ever changing thanks to the many geological forces that are found there. In fact, the unique geological features such as the geysers, hot springs, steam vents, among many others, are what lead to
I have found a metropolitan area in North Dakota where oil is booming. I believe that Trebor Transportation can take advantage of North Dakota’s oil boom because transportation is also very limited for farms that are trying to transport goods. I will provide you with economic facts of North Dakota’s economic condition which can benefit Trebor Transportation.
The Alaskan highway is considered one the Army’s greatest engineering achievements. The highway itself spans from Delta Junction, Alaska to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. At the time of completion it was 1,387 miles long, took $30 million dollars, seven months and twenty days to construct. The decision to construct the highway was developed as an offensive plan to negate and deter the Japanese threat along the United States west coast as well as the Aleutian Islands, in the wake of the Japanese’s recent attack on Pearl Harbor. The highway was to be used solely for the conveyance of military supplies and equipment to the airfields of the Northwest Staging Route. When the idea of constructing the highway was brought to the
