There are many challenges being faced by the logistics industry today as the companies strive for sustainability. This is because the providers of logistics services have, over a period of several years, found them being integrated into the production processes of their customers, while at the same time, governments and businesses have continued to carefully weigh the issue of logistics in their investment and business decisions. Some of the previous trends and the forces of the operations of logistics that drive the transformation of a Freight forwarding company will be examined. It will focus on theories, conceptual models and frameworks that explain logistic operations. The gaps in the logistics operations and the dangers of not addressing …show more content…
It emphasizes on differentiation of logistics operations, effectiveness and efficiency. Fugate analyzed the relationship between organizational performance and logistics performance and concluded that logistics performance is not only multidimensional but also a function of resources used in logistics in relation to outlined outcomes and objectives against other players’ in the industry or competitors. The authors concluded that the better the joint quality of planning, human resources logistics and customer feedback and satisfaction, the lower the levels of redundancy, waste, and inefficiency (Fugate, et al 2010.p8-22).

Figure 1: The table below summarizes the Fugate Logistic Performance Model
The basis of argument by the model above is that companies that combine effectiveness and efficiency achieve better performance than those competitors’ that choose only one of these dimensions.(Fugate et al., 2007 p.140-156).
The Aramyan Model
The other model is The Aramyan Approach. Aramyan et al (2007) developed a conceptual framework to analyze the performance of logistics in the agricultural and food supply
Due to the large quantity of freight and the long distance that it must travel to arrive to its destination exporters and importers alike have found logistic service providers essential to engage in international trade (Rodriguez, Comtois, Slack, 2013). While some Logistics service providers focus only on the area of transportation others specialize in freight consolidation, distribution management, and warehousing (Robinson, 2014). They have enough market knowledge, information and communication systems to offer supply chain solutions tailored to the specific needs of any company be it small or large (Rodriguez, Comtois, Slack,
It is widely known that logistics is the life blood of anything major. The logistics and transportation industry in the United
According to Palmer & Torgerson (1999), the concept of efficiency can be divided into three types:
For any management team or executive, the pursuit to merge a good amount of these two qualities together requires some amount of sacrifice. To become highly effective, efficiency has to be first sacrificed after which it can be slowly increased without a considerable drop in effectiveness. This is the most accepted method used by managers because results matter to clients and customers instead of the cost of acquiring it.

Even though this book was focused on the role of logistic revolution, the real intention of the authors was to apprehend the consequences and results of logistics revolution in relation to the employees and workers. Bonacich, Edna and Wilson, (2008:VII) shows their intention in the beginning of the book with the following statement, - "this book tells the story of those workers and the work they do to get us the goods we all depend on". This statement demonstrates the importance of the workers in respect to delivering the goods to the end consumers. Likewise, the authors also made the following statement, - "We are interested… in their potential for organising their rights as workers" (p.
It is known to us, “in each industry, the customer is god, is operator's food and clothing parents.” This tells us that customers are important to organizations. With the current intense competition in logistics nowadays, most companies can provide high quality goods, even are willing to cut down prices if reasonable. However, how can suppliers gain a competitive advantage when high quality is expected and price must be maintained at a level to generate a reasonable return? In our views, it is no doubt that how various supplier service activities are valued by customers, more specifically, that is, the ability of logistics
Should reverse logistics be labeled as the latest business trend? Should it be started on a company whim or in a half-measured capacity? Could focusing on reverse logistics magnify companies’ mistakes even more, or will it focus on the heart of manufacturing, distributors, wholesalers, or retailer's profitability. If we look at using a scoring method, which would focus the measured capabilities of capacity, which could emphasis the return equation, and appears to point to the right measure of resources. Any reverse logistics initiative should reduce real costs which intern satisfies the customer.

SCM can be divided into three main groups: purchase, manufacture, and transport (Thomas et al., 1996). The focus is on transportation. There are different modes of transportation. These modes of transportation fall under three basic types and they are: land (road, rail and pipelines), water (shipping) and air. Transportation plays a connective role among the several steps that result in the conversion of resources into useful goods for the ultimate consumer. It is the planning of all these functions and sub-functions into a system of goods movement in order to minimize cost and maximize service to the customers that constitutes the concept of business logistics. The system, once it’s put in place, must be effectively managed (Fair & Williams, 1981). What are the advantages and disadvantages of these modes of transportation in logistics?
Following the paradigm shift on the role of logistics management in the recent decades, there has been a wide recognition of this as a very important aspect a business strategy in general. However due to the numerous factors promoting complexity of logistics management companies have adopted the idea of outsourcing their logistic activities to Third Party Logistics (3PL) providers. Hence, 3PLs have taken a critical role towards supply chains of heir customers.
In order to deal with the ever growing changes in competition in the market, the company must take into consideration the speed, efficiency, and other conditions in the operation of strategies, and in crossing these socio economic barriers management plays a really important role, in the deployment of strategic plan s and objectives to deal with each issue that rises from every and each one of these barriers, therefore the industry needs to pay attention to the vertical integrative relationship among upstream suppliers, midstream retailers, as well as downstream retail customers, the transformational process of the global industry, and the need of the logistics management system is gradually
The variability of logistics performance is quite relevant. ALP has not been able to guarantee a reliable service to its customers in the last years. There seems to be a lack of organization when providing the service to the customers, in the sense of establishing priorities and
Forward logistics (or conventional logistics) is the regular distribution channel followed by the manufactures from time immemorial. Forward logistics concentrates on the products (goods or services) reaching the consumer end and deals with the line of flow from the manufacturer’s end to the consumer’s end. It deals with the very essence of Supply Chain Management and logistical activities of an organization. It has a significant impact on the primary operations carried out, which act as the basic revenue generating aspect of a business. In this logistical system, the flow is a “one-to-many” type and the forecasting or traceability is quite simple.
