We all see the weather change from day to day and it is just a normal occurrence. Seasons change from warm to cold and we all just go about our business. But what most people don’t see change is the climate. Climate changes over a long period of time and it has shown a warming trend in the past few decades. Many people attribute this warming trend to the alarming rate that humans are burning fossil fuels and pumping Co2 into the atmosphere, however some people think that climate change is merely a myth or that global temperatures have always risen and fallen during Earth’s lifetime.

Climate change is influenced by the greenhouse effect which is the increase of Carbon dioxide, Methane, Ozone and Nitrogen Oxide. On one hand, the presence of these gases in the atmosphere make the earth habitable with respect to regulating the earth’s temperature. Global warming is defined “as an increase in the average temperature of global surface air and oceans since about 1950” (White). The global warming controversy is an ongoing dispute with two main sides; one stating that the direct cause to global warming is through people’s daily activities and the burning of fossil fuels, while other people all around the world refuse to believe that human contributions are the main cause, saying that the earth is going through a natural stage of climatic change, thereby resulting in increasing temperatures in the earth’s atmosphere. Rising temperatures and in increase in greenhouse gases shown through the carbon cycle, demonstrate how the greenhouse effect is incorporated into both views on global warming. Over the past 50 years, experts in this field world-wide have been having an unaccountable amount of disputes over global warming, favoring in either of these positions of human causation or natural climatic change.

The rise of air temperatures near Earth’s surface over the past century is known as global warming. Earth has experienced periods of gradual warming and cooling throughout its existence due to natural causes, such as volcanic eruptions and variations in the Sun’s output. However, scientists have created the idea of an increase in global temperatures to human cause, mostly the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere as a result of industrial industry. These greenhouse gases which absorb and trap heat emitted from Earth’s surface through a phenomenon known as the greenhouse effect.

a) Greenhouse effect is the direct natural result of Sun powering climate on the Earth. Sun’s radiation is passing through the Earth’s atmosphere which in turn causing the Earth’s surface to warm up. As an estimation, about 30% of the solar energy is bouncing back to the space as a results of the Earth’s atmosphere. The other 70% of solar energy is attracted by the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. In order to create a balance, Earth has to reflect this extra amount of energy back to space but, part of this reflection is absorbs by Earth’s atmosphere and will be sent back to Earth. This process is warming up the Earth’s surface and prevents the temperature on the Earth’s surface to drop below zero Celsius degrees. This is called natural Greenhouse effect but, due to various human activities such as deforestations and fuel burning and other factors have exacerbate this natural process of Greenhouse effect in which created the global warming [1]. The primary greenhouse gases are water vapor (H2O): from the water on the Earth’s surface. Carbon Dioxide (CO2): its increase in the atmosphere is due to the fuel burning process. Methane (CH4): its increase in the atmosphere is due to several reasons such as melting permafrost, landfills generate CH4, and when ocean temperature rises causes release of Methane. The media and masses have continuously argued the truth and reality behind the idea of global warming. Global warming is " an increase in the earth 's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution". The greenhouse effect is essentially the idea that gasses and other substances trap heat in the lower levels of Earth 's atmosphere coming from the sun, which in theory makes the Earth 's temperature rise. Many scholars, of various professions and backgrounds, have debated whether this concept is true and harmful to the inhabitants of Earth, or if the media and politicians are benefiting from establishing fear in individuals.

Although that is how global warming is defined, it has a way greater effect than just temperature changes. The movie earned several awards including an academy award for best documentary and gore later received a noble peace prize. The movie discussed several different topics of great concern to global warming; such as permafrost, climbs in temperature, extinction of species, drought, and fatigue to name a few. Four writers in five different articles discussed the three topics of greenhouse gases, climate change, and causes of global warming. These writers are writer and scholar Bill McKibben in “Think Again: Climate Change” and “How Close to catastrophe”; William J. Broad, writer for the New York Times in “From a Rapt audience, a call to cool the hype”; writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kevin O’Brien, in “Global Warming? I won’t be losing any sleep over it”; and Alan Zarembo, staff writer for the the Los Angeles Times, in “Game over on global warming?” All though the articles explain some different topics from one another, only one of them disagree with gore on the causes for global warming being humans, they all agree that there will be impacts to the environment, and all of them believe that greenhouse gases are one of the primary causes for global warming.

Since 1880 (when reliable record keeping began) the Earth’s average temperature has increased by 0.8-1.0 degree Celsius. At this small amount of warming familiar global weather patterns are being disrupted, the polar and greenland ice sheets are melting, storms are more intense and frequent and tropical diseases are spreading into higher latitudes and altitudes.

Ever since the Industrial Revolution humans have been releasing more and more carbon dioxide, which is accumulated in the atmosphere, this leads to the creation of the greenhouse, this disrupts our Earth’s climate.
