Many people struggle with the decision of where they want to go to college and what they would like to do for the rest of my life. For me, this choice was made easier with this ticket. This ticket was to a Texas A&M football game, but in a broader sense it was a ticket to much more than just a football game; it was a ticket to the Aggie experience and what it means to be a Texas Aggie.

What is FFA? FFA used to stand for Future Farmers of America but that was changed because they wanted the organization to be more than just farm kids. FFA is an extracurricular activity that certain high school and possibly middle schools offer through their agriculture classes. You can become an FFA member if your school offers it by taking an agriculture class and you pay yearly dues to your chapter.
After a 21 year hiatus, Ag-Gag legislation resurfaced on March 2, 2012 in Iowa. It does not criminalize taking photos or video recordings. It instead makes it a crime to enter an agricultural facility under "false pretenses” or to lie on application papers “with an intent to commit an act not authorized by the owner of the agricultural production facility, knowing that the act is not authorized.” (Pitts, 2012).

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Ag teacher? Is it parliamentary procedure? Or how about the public speaking competitions? It could even be soil judging. I think of all the time that you spend at the school or at FFA functions. FFA is a great way for students to get involved with their community and events around the United States. But what is the main thing needed for all of this? That’s right you got it, a teacher. Ag teachers are the best teachers out there, all the activities you do, the building, conventions, and many more things, but with the shortage of Ag teachers this could end soon.
Calling myself an AU Eagle would be a tremendous honor. As someone who seeks to pursue business, the opportunities appear limitless at American University. The unique Bachelor of Science in Business and Entertainment Degree is especially appealing. I have always been interested in the entertainment industry, and I find myself in the behind the scenes, business side. Attending school at a bustling campus in a major city would be the perfect fit for me because I thrive on other’s energy. As an incoming computer science freshman that values community service, I know Texas A&M would be the perfect place for me. Academically, it’s one of the top universities in the nation for engineering, including computer science. Considering that engineering is best learned through hands-on experiences, the research opportunities and internships at A&M form the best environment to increase my understanding of my major. But going further than academics, the university itself has a welcoming atmosphere and a commitment to community service through AggieServe and other groups. This is one of the reasons I want to attend A&M as I can take everything I have learned in high school and from leading my school's volunteer group to continue to help

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary may define “agriculture” as something relating to the soil, crops, and livestock, but to me, it is so much more: agriculture is my way of life. As a kid, I went through a variety of interests, from marine biology, fashion design, and more, but none fit me as well as the agriculture industry does, from the day I became involved in youth activities to the present day as I study it in college. Though my family’s roots are in agriculture, I was not raised on a farm, but when I wanted to give agriculture a try in junior high, those who were welcomed me with open arms. As a young person, I was involved in 4-H, FFA, and livestock showing from the local to national levels, for many amazing experiences and countless memories made. Today, I give back as a volunteer, participate in professional organizations, and would rather go out to the farm or to a livestock show rather than the movies or out shopping, unless it is to the feed store of course!
