Another important benefit of implementing technology in the classroom is it can help teachers create personalize instruction and make it easier to provide accommodations. It can be very difficult and time consuming to differentiate instruction for a classroom of students. The use of technology can make this a much more workable task. By using technology, the teacher can differentiate instruction with just a few swipes per student. It also gives the teacher more options to work with depending on student need. For example, if a student has trouble writing, they can use an iPad with voice adaptive software to answer questions or complete assignments. This eliminates the stress they may feel being forced to write during an assignment or test situation.

Microaggressions can be any commonplace comments that are intended or not, to offend another person. However, one might think individuals would be aware if they inherently said something offensive. Microaggressions are even apparent in standardized testing and academia as test writers and teachers can unintentionally degrade students with a seemingly innocent statement. Standardized tests are allegedly supposed to test student’s knowledge of what they have learned or previously known. The tests also reflect the academic progress of the school to determine the quality of education that the school provides. Standardized tests seem to be an unbiased way of determining skill, but the tests do not take into account student’s home lives, as well

Geometry and Algebra are so crucial to the development of the world it is taught to every public high school in the United States, around 14.8 million teenagers each year (National Center for Education Statistics). Mathematics is the engine powering our world; our stocks, economy, technology, and science are all based off from math. Math is our universal and definite language “I was especially delighted with the mathematics, on account of the certitude and evidence of their reasonings.” (Rene Descartes, 1637).

My English class when I was a high school junior was characterized by exactly what people complain about when they belittle standardized testing and the classroom environment it creates. Namely in the area of teaching to and gaming the standardized tests.

Turgut suggests for the United States to redefine success in a broader manner. Currently, the way success defined by the US is depicted as “rigid, narrow, and uniform” (Turgut, 2013, p. 68). This type of measurement for assessing students does not fit the culture of the States. The nation before NCLB, Goals 2000, and Common Core have contradicted the traditional educational culture based on respect and embracing diversity, culture, and talents (Turgut 2013). Thus, far policy makers have advocated for education reform that has opposed what the culture and traditions of education have been for years.

Math has been around since the beginning of time, although “Pre-dynastic Egyptians and Sumerians represented geometric designs on their artefacts as early as the 5th millennium BCE”(Mastin). However, students have one big question, “When will we use math in the real world”, and this has given people the thought that the curriculum should be changed to only math that will be used in the real world, nothing more, nothing less. This is completely wrong due to many reasons, one being that the math that is taught today already gives us the necessary knowledge that can help us succeed in a future job(Shane), the curriculum taught today gives individuals much more of a variety of math(Ehret), and lastly the math taught in the curriculum that we use today helps kids understand other subjects better(Glosser).

Health care is a huge issue in America. A lot of people do not realize that one of the reasons most students do not attend school in urban areas is because they have no health care. Their parents more than likely don’t work a job where there is no health care provided and they make to much money to qualify for medicaid. Its a never ending cycle. You also mentioned standardized testing. Standardized testing also plays a factor in funding for the school. If the school does a great job on the testing they get more government money. The schools that do poorly on the test are usually in the urban and rural areas and they get as much funding as the other schools. The schools in the urban and rural areas need the most funding and help to help better

I encourage an atmosphere in which mathematics is appreciated simply because Maths is beautiful. Examples of the beauty of mathematics: a well-constructed proof, a simple trick/technique to solve a problem. Mathematics can be viewed as an art, a beautiful work worthy of admiration. If the student sees math as not only a means to an end (e.g., to apprehend physical processes) but an end in itself, he/she will ultimately develop respect, admiration, and then aspiration for the subject.

When teaching mathematical concepts it is important to look at the big ideas that will follow in order to prevent misconceptions and slower transformation

Visual learning is exemplified when students can look at something that visually represents a mathematical concept, thus enhancing their understanding of the topic being taught. Just as a picture may worth a thousand words and may convey a message, manipulatives can provide visual representation of ideas thereby helping students understand mathematics.

In today’s society mathematics is a vital part of day-to-day life. No matter what a person is doing at home or at the workplace, he/she is constantly using different mathematics skills to simply function. Then what does this mean for mathematics education? When someone needs to utilize a skill every day then he/she needs a strong background in the skill. Therefore, today’s students need more than a just a working knowledge of mathematics or enough knowledge to pass a test. Today’s students need to understand how mathematics works and how to utilize mathematics skills in the best way possible.

Maths is ubiquitous in our lives, but depending on the learning received as a child it could inspire or frighten. If a child has a negative experience in mathematics, that experience has the ability to affect his/her attitude toward mathematics as an adult. Solso (2009) explains that math has the ability to confuse, frighten, and frustrate learners of all ages; Math also has the ability to inspire, encourage and achieve. Almost all daily activities include some form of mathematical procedure, whether people are aware of it or not. Possessing a solid learning foundation for math is vital to ensure a lifelong understanding of math. This essay will discuss why it is crucial to develop in children the ability to tackle problems with initiative and confidence (Anghileri, 2006, p. 2) and why mathematics has changed from careful rehearsal of standard procedures to a focus on mathematical thinking and communication to prepare them for the world of tomorrow (Anghileri).

Mathematics, like every creation of man, have evolved without really knowing how far you can get with them: the scope of the computer, physics, chemistry, algebra, all are evidence of this. All these areas of measurements and calculations are accurate. Even in nature, everything follows a precise pattern and a precise order: a flower, a shell, a butterfly, day and night, the seasons. All this makes mathematics essential for human life and they can not be limited only to a matter within the school curriculum; here lies the importance of teaching math in a pleasure, enjoyable and understandable way. Mathematics is an aid to the development of the child and should be seen as an aid to life and not as an obstacle in their lifes.

To understand the mechanized world and match with the newly developing information technology knowledge in mathematics is vital. Mathematics is the mother of all sciences. Without the knowledge of mathematics, nothing is possible in the world. The world cannot progress without mathematics. Mathematics fulfills most of the human needs related to diverse aspects of everyday life. Mathematics has been accepted as significant element of formal education from ancient period to the present day. Mathematics has a very important role in the classroom not only because of the relevance of the syllabus material, but because of the reasoning processes the student can develop.
