Scientific Method and Steps in Scientific Inquiry Paper
In this paper in will provide details on how scientific methods can be used in the Human services. Explaining the steps of scientific methods, and how it serves as an important key to Human services professionals. Each steps will be included on how they are define and what purpose it serves will scientific methods are applied. Human services professionals use the scientific methods to gain information on the client as well as how to approach the clients issues. Also researching other resources to meet the needs of the client to ensure the client is receiving accurate

Identifying a research problem will include finding out what the problem is and why is it important. This will help to understand why the problem needs to have further investigation which will include researching it. Reviewing the literature will help the researcher to know where to look and what resources to include in the research. Located the right resources will help research the organizations and individuals. Specifying a purpose for research, this will include with finding out the purpose of the situation or issue and narrowing the research. Researching the right category will help to better understand the purpose of the research and identify the problem. Collecting data is used to gathering all parties involve, records, and the accurate information to obtain the research. Collecting data will help to know what type of information to research and what resources to use. Analyzing and interpreting the data will help to break down the data which will uncover what is necessary to use and what is not. Having a clear explanation to what the data is and how to use it in the research to determine answers to the questions. Reporting and evaluating research is what human services professionals will use to determine who will be involved and what will be including in the report. Writing the report is important and have to be done with accurate facts and
This type of research is carried out to find out what services are available for those individuals who need them. Research lacks value if its findings are not put into practice and it is important that, having identified any kind of need or gap in provision, attempts are made to fill the gaps so that the individuals in this country can receive the best quality health and social care to which they are entitled to. However some groups may be overlooked in society, (Talman, 2010). An example of research to plan provision can be as I said before drug users. More promotion of being anti-drug and more rehab clinics and programmes could be made available to help this group of people and to improve access to care for such groups.
FUNCTIONS OF RESEARCH TO HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE: Research might have so many different functions or aims which are as follows: identifying needs, highlighting gaps in provision, planning provision, informing policy or practice, extending knowledge and understanding, improving practice, aiding reflection, allowing progress to be monitored and examining topics of contemporary importance.
The development of the scientific method in the late 1500’s to the early 1600’s was a crucial stepping-stone in the science community. The scientific method is based upon observations, hypotheses and experimentation. The concept is rather simple, and can be applied to many areas of study. Once an observation is made, the observer can make a hypothesis as to why that phenomenon occurs and can then design an experiment to prove whether or not that hypotheses is valid. Although the scientific method has been extremely useful in the discovery of various things from usages of medications to studying animal behavior, there are still those who question the usage of this tool. These critics claim that since
This method provide them with direct information from the people in the society to collected data to identify the problems within that specific geographic area and to address needs and gaps, for example sources of data include: 2010 US Census Bureau, 2014 Florida Youth Substance Abuse Survey, 2013 National Household survey on drug abuse, 2014 KDF focus groups and Prevalence survey. They are able to assess the need of the population in an attempt to establish the preparedness and availability of resources for the community so that
To support the theory of continental drift is through topography, surveying the floors of oceans, charts of rock magnetism, and statistics on rock ages (Trefil & Hazen, 2010). At one time scientist believed that the deep ocean floors were flat; accumulating the sediment that progressively wore away from the prehistoric landmasses (Trefil & Hazen, 2010). However, they discovered steep-walled valleys and elevated highlands. This was evidences that just as the continents are transformed and are active, so to is the seafloor (Trefil & Hazen, 2010). The Mid- Atlantic Ridge, positioned in the central part of the Atlantic Ocean, is recorded to be the longest mountain range on this planet. Volcanoes, lava flow, and earthquakes are a source of
Within this assignment there will be a clear demonstration and understanding of the concept of research in relation to the acquisition of underpinning knowledge appropriate to my programme of study. I will also be undertaking a comparative analysis of the nature and validity of quantitative and qualitative research methods. I will also be demonstrating skills in critical analysis of methods of data collection and selection of appropriate methods to informing future working practice. I will also be analyse the ethical considerations in relation to the development and undertaking of research.
This assignment will be explaining the function of research within health and social care. Research is information which is gathered together for a specific purpose. The function of research includes many different functions and they all have different purposes. The functions of research are; Identifying needs, highlighting gaps in provision, planning provision of services, information policy and practice, extending knowledge and understanding, aiding reflection, allowing progress to be monitored, and examining topics of contemporary importance.
The purpose of this assignment is to explore the appropriate steps to take in order to successfully research topics in the counseling field. Research helps explains things in a more detailed and practical sense. We learn more through research and gain more understanding about the topic. Research is very important if you want to prove the integrity of a study especially when writing a paper. Conducting a research and citing sources will make it more believable.
The Scientific Method is the approach that scientists use to investigate some phenomena. It’s a standard technique to find cause and effect of a particular problem.
In making “distinctions between basic and applied research and between human service practice and policy more concrete, it is useful to identify five focal areas where research is applied in the human services: identify the problem, research design development, collect data, analyze the data, and public dissemination” (Monette, Sullivan, & DeJong, 2011 p.4).
There are different types of researches that can occur depending on what information needs to be solved and discovered. Usually when a researcher picks a certain topic to research they tend to pick a topic that will have a paragraph that can relate to their self so this gives them more interest to feel for that subject, this is called problem formulation. When the researcher is developing a plan to start the research the focus should be based on where the subject is currently highly affected the most and who is mainly drawn to this subject. This was the researcher can know who to interview and which location. For instance if a case worker is researching rates on domestic violence, the findings should come from the state which has the highest rates as well as the rates of men who are arrested for domestic violence. Being a researcher you have to manage time well and make sure your researching in
Within this report I will be explaining the function of research within health and social care and I will also be comparing the two different research methodologies that are used within health and social care. Then I will be discussing the different ethical issues that can arise when researching in health and social care and in health and social care settings. Research is the process of collecting and analysing information to be able to provide knowledge to then be able to highlight gaps and identify the needs in society. Also needed to be able to extend knowledge on subjects to then be able to improve practice and then be able to monitor practice. The different purposes of research are to be able to establish the different patterns in the population so they are able to effectively plan for the services provisions.
Collecting data, researching and analyzing all of the information, collaborate within resources with other organizations in order to provide the best social, physical and cultural needs that have barriers.
The Scientific Method is the standardized procedure that scientists are supposed to follow when conducting experiments, in order to try to construct a reliable, consistent, and non-arbitrary representation of our surroundings. To follow the Scientific Method is to stick very tightly to a order of experimentation. First, the scientist must observe the phenomenon of interest. Next, the scientist must propose a hypothesis, or idea in which the experiments will be based around. Then, through repeated experimentation, the hypothesis can either be proven false or become a theory. If the hypothesis is proven to be false, the scientist must reformulate his or her ideas and come up with another hypothesis, and the experimentation begins again. This
Research is important because it helps to develop evidence based practices. Evidence based practices provide the best social work skills for individuals, groups and agencies. Research provides a solid base of documented skills for social workers to use. The Code of Ethics states the importance of research. It also provides evidence for specific practices in order for them to be backed financially. Finally, research allows social workers to push for change in macro settings. By researching specific policies and practices, social workers can find areas for improvement and implement them using the evidence they collect.
