Reflection 2: How do I read? A text is the content in a message or any printed material. There are basic ways that are used in reading to make the learner gain, retain, and understand the content. For instance, one way is by applying the top, down, and bottom up strategy; which people use in their native language. Reading involves, previewing, predicting, skimming and scanning, guessing and paraphrasing (Tsai 120).
The first step before reading entails previewing, which is reviewing titles, section- headers, attachments, or photos and then familiarization with the structure of the sentences. The next step is prediction, which constitutes the use of knowledge acquired after previewing and making it easier
Use comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning and begin to evaluate texts by drawing on a growing knowledge of context, text structures and language features
In your view, what are the three most important key ideas in regards to Infant and Toddler care and curriculum?
I am a student in your SY389B that approached you after class on Monday to inquire about receiving an extension due to having food poisoning that has in turn caused my vertigo to act up. I was unable to attend class today as when I got back to Waterloo I took my medication, as I was very dizzy, and only woke up a few hours ago. I have been working on my Unit 1 Critical Reflection Paper but have been unable to complete it up to your standards. I want to produce my best work as this assignment is work 30% of my overall grade and was wondering if it would be possible to have a little extra time. If not, I understand that I will receive 3% off per day that my assignment is late. Also,

Coding text is a great strategy to help with not understanding the text. It utilizes symbols to mark in the text to help show your thoughts or what you do not understand. This strategy will help enhance my critical thinking skills. Many times I find myself speed reading through the text to get to end and realize I do not remember what I have read. Using symbols to identify important information or unfamiliar terms will help me track my thoughts as I read. That way I can come back to it and explore my thoughts deeper. If I do not use this strategy I will simply be reading with out making any
As part of a restructure in a one form entry primary school, I was appointed the position of being part of the School Improvement Team and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). The SENCO role was previously overseen by the Headteacher whom I work closely with in relation to both of the positions I hold. As well as having these responsibilities within the school, I am a full-time class teacher in Year 2.
Over the past two weeks I have acquired 5 new schools. All of which are located in District 15. The DOE’s PreK For All program begins this school year, and thankfully, I was able to have the District 15 PreK director agree to implement the Sanford Harmony Program at her four sites. P.S. 676 has also agreed to implement during the 2015-2016 school year. I am in the process of rescheduling trainings that’s were scheduled during the first two weeks of school, due to the holidays. My first public school training on the new material will he held on 9/14/15. I am looking forward to trying out our new training PowerPoint and material.
I was proud today to ask our board for support in removing VAM (Value added Measure) from the teacher evaluation process. VAM was put in law under SB736 in 2011 by the then Florida Legislature and tied teachers pay to students’ grades.
After reviewing the “Reflection on College Writing,” I decided that I do not need to take an English course this upcoming fall. Instead, I will take English 2 during the spring of my Sophomore year. Since I already took AP English Language and Composition in high school, passed the exam, and earned credits for the English 1A course, I do not need to take English 1A. Furthermore, I plan to take American Civilization to fill my GE requirements for both Area C1 and C2. Therefore, I am not required to take English 1B, a course that fills Area C2. Besides AP English Language and Composition, I took and passed AP English Literature, another college-level English course. Based on my ease in completing the “Reflection on College Writing,” my previous
In this essay I will analyze my abilities acquired thus far through my 515 course using my practice application sheet as measurement.

On pages 100-106 of ‘Writing in Action’ Shuqiao Song, the author of this section, talks about reading critically and gives guidelines on how to do it. The author starts off with guidelines for previewing the text, which should be done before reading the text, these guidelines include, finding the context, finding out about the author or creator, paying attention to the subject matter, and analyzing if the title, medium, genre, and design are appropriate and used in an effective manner. The author provides specific information about each of these guidelines and then an example of a preview for an assigned text is given. Next the author gives guidelines on how to read and annotate, which should be done during the first reading of a text, these
My county is a rural community with a majority lower-middle to middle class population. The high school consists of about 600 students, with very little diversity. My school has also implemented a new 1:1 technology initiative. The goal is for every student to have their own chromebook by next school year. We have also begun implementing the new Common Core Curriculum. Since my county started school earlier than most, we were one of the first systems to begin the new standards. This has been a school year of new standards, and new technology
I never realized that there was a specific name for what people do when they read. I know that if they are good readers, they may stop and ask themselves questions every once in a while, and make predictions, but I didn’t know what all of that was called. There are multiple things that people may do before they read, while they read, and after they read, and that is called the Strategic Reading Process. As I read through some of the examples that people do, I noticed that I do a lot of the same things, and I don’t even realize that I’m doing it. I think that I have practiced those strategies so many times that I don’t even have to tell myself to do it anymore because I’m a much better reader now than I was when I first started to read.
Reading is an act of perception, analysis, and interpretation done by the reader to get the message to be conveyed by the author in media writing. According to Farr (in Dalman, 2013: 5) suggests that "Reading is the Heart of Education, the reading of reading comprehension is an essential prerequisite for mastery and enhancement of students' knowledge, so after reading the text the reader should be able to understand the text. First, give information, for example by reading newspapers and magazines, secondly, give entertainment, for example by reading a novel. The third one, most importantly reading can provide new knowledge. The book can provide understanding as well as entertaining and providing information.
