After that they elect Ralph as chief and Ralph let’s Jack have his choir and he let them do whatever they wanted to do and it was being hunters. Jack thinks he should be a leader because he can sing, but to be a leader you need to know how to lead people into the right path. Ralph didn’t say anything about wanting to be chief because he wanted the people to decide things and not be selfish and take the power all for himself. Ralph and Jack from the beginning didn't agree on who's going to be the chief because they both want to lead the group in their own separate way. Jack is trying to be a leader but the boys chose Ralph over Jack because they thought Ralph was fit to be the chief. Jack starts rebelling against Ralph and he starts saying that Ralph is a coward and isn't fit to be the chief. “Who thinks Ralph oughtn’t to be chief?” He looked expectantly at the boys ranged around, who had frozen. Under the palms there was deadly silence.“Hands up?” said Jack strongly, “whoever wants Ralph not to be chief?”The silence continued, breathless and heavy and full of shame. Slowly the red drained from Jack’s cheeks, then came back with a painful rush. He licked his lips and turned his head at an angle, so that his gaze avoided the embarrassment of linking with another’s eye. “How many think –” His voice trailed off. The hands that held the conch shook. He cleared his throat, and spoke loudly. “All right then.”He laid the conch with great care in the grass at his feet. The humiliating tears were running from the corner of each eye.“I’m not going to play any longer. Not with you.” (pg. 127) Jack leaves, but Ralph doesn't follow thinking that Jack will come back. Jack got tired of following Ralph and wants to show his true side because his nature is savagery while Ralph’s nature is civilization. The desire for power and not getting the desired power will often cause major conflicts. In the case of Jack, he will do anything to have the power he wants, even if that means lie about the current leader, Ralph. Soon after this dispute, Jack decides to leave and start his own tribe. The basis for this has already occurred, after the discovery of the beast when some boys sided with Ralph and the signal fire, and some with Jack and having fun. The

Jack shows pride by electing himself to be chief so he can be in charge. “‘I ought to be chief,’ said Jack with simple arrogance, ‘because I’m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp.’” This quote exemplifies how Jack volunteered himself to be in charge. Jack wanted to be above everybody, so he tried to convince everyone to let him be chief. He wanted to have power and authority. “We’ll hunt. I’m going to be chief.” This is yet another quote that shows how Jack was stubborn about how he believed he deserved to be chief. He did not bother to ask the others about their opinion on who should be in charge. Instead he just appointed himself. “His tone conveyed a warning, given out of the pride of ownership, and the boys ate fast while there was still time.” This quote shows how Jack was obsessed with the power of being chief. Jack scared the other boys into respecting him as a leader. Jack shows pride in these quotes, because he shows that he believes he should be chief, because he is superior to everybody. All of the other boys chose Ralph as their leader, so Jack creates conflict by challenging Ralph as chief. Jack trying to usurp Ralph as chief shows how he was putting his needs before those of the entire group. Jack was too prideful to allow Ralph to be in charge, and constantly challenged him as a leader. This conflict gets in the way of the boys being able to work together to try to survive and get rescued.

By disobeying Ralph’s rules, Jack is trying to weaken the rules. Jack still has an effect on the boys, and his breaking of rules weakens the their will to follow them. In a later meeting, Jack claims that Ralph “isn’t a proper chief” and that “[he’s] going off by [himself].” Jack’s departure weakens Ralph’s tribe, since the choir has been with Jack before the crash on the island, and showed loyalty to him on the island. This results in a majority of the boys abandon Ralph for Jack. Some of the non-choir boys go off with Jack’s tribe, because of the beast they want protection from. They believe his hunters will supply that. Jack is no longer under control, but is now in control. Jack’s department of the tribe, and weakening of the boy’s opinion on Ralph leads to his desire for power being satisfied.

The term Redskin refers to the bloody scalps of Native American children, women, and men(Hawks). They were hunted by bounty hunters where they were killed and then scalped. They received awards when they traded in the redskins. These bounty hunters when they hunted them down the Native American skin was referred to animal skin. The Native American mascots should be removed from sports because they are offensive, confusing, and they don't truly represent the team.

Red Rodney was a famous trumpeter and bandleader in the 20th century. He was born in Philadelphia on the 27th of September 1927 and was known as a child prodigy when he was young (Voce, 2011). At the beginning, Red Rodney taught himself the trumpet and later he went to a school named “Jules E. Masterbaum Vocational” in his hometown Philadelphia to study trumpet (Schwab, 2010). Red started playing with Jerry World Orchestra only at the age of 15 and then he also played with Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and Gene Krupa (Chesky Records, n.d.). Red’s life was changed because of Dizzy Gillespie, who was Red’s hero when he was a teenager. Red was able to play a gig with Dizzy Gillespie one time at the Down Beat Club and he left Dizzy a lasting impression.

The Red Tails were a group of African American fighter pilots that served in world war two. These pilots are known for their skills in the air; they had become one of the best air regiments in the United States military. The white government and the white regiments in the military never believed in the Red Tails; until they proved that they were capable of handling tough missions just like the white soldiers. As was stated, the article states, “In 1940, under pressure from black activists, the press, other political groups and President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the USAAC reversed its position on accepting black flight program applicants. However, the brass was not fully committed to this change and anticipated that the program would fail spectacularly.

Although already one death has occurred, the others do not seem to realize what has happened, and continue to give their new chief power. Jack's tribe then kills Piggy, and goes on a rampage, as Jack "brainwashes" the others into believing that Ralph's customs were boring and wrong. This is what sets all the others out to kill Ralph at the end.

The author highlights the use of worksheets, spreadsheets, and teaching to the test strategies as weak time consumers that detract from the active learning and classroom engagement. Data-driven instruction is a tool to guide education to increase student performance with researched based practices, rigorous teaching modalities, and differentiated individualized instruction.
