Week One Overview
Everything you write has a purpose. Informal emails, texts, memos, essays, and research papers are just a few examples. Your objective might be to persuade an audience to accept new points of view or agree with your ideas. You might want to influence people to support your stand on an issue. Writing a formal persuasive research paper is one way to induce others to agree with your argument. In this course, you will have the opportunity to compose an argument that will convince others to agree with your facts, share your values, accept your argument, and elect your way of thinking about a topic. The first step is to define your topic, thesis/claim, and purpose.
Planning Your Persuasive Research Paper

In addition, the writing experience at the end of the course will help you with persuasive speaking in front of an audience. To get you started, the activities and assignments will ease you into thinking about the argument, and help you consider what direction your paper might take. A. It seems that recently, the healthcare system has been placing labels on the values of lives. Doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies are separating patients on the sole bases of their finances. In these situations, individuals with health insurance are receiving priority care over those without health insurance. Doctors and hospitals are increasing waiting times of those without insurance, to take advantage of those with insurance. In addition to doubled-waiting times, these uninsured patients are even forced to take lower grades of medication. This isn’t only unfair, but inhumane, displaying the belief that these charity care patients’ lives aren’t as valuable as those with insurance. These
In recent discussions of trigger warnings-“alerts that professors are expected to issue if something in a course might cause a strong emotional response”, is a controversial issue that has been whether trigger warnings at colleges/universities should be issued to students who wish to be alerted on unappealing subjects or to not have trigger warnings from being practiced in American Universities. On the other hand, some argue that trigger warnings are necessary to keep students from emotional outbreaks in schoolrooms; however, others argue that trigger warnings are not useful and simply prevent students from acknowledging a true understanding of reality. My own view is that trigger warnings are not necessary to be practiced in American Universities, considering how this warning prevents students from developing their intellectual essentials. Trigger warnings do not encourage or nurture intellectual discussions in college classrooms and in reality prevent the student from gaining the necessary knowledge and critical thinking he/she will need to succeed academically in a workplace.
Some think “oh well I have about 10 minutes left to get there. Why stop now? I can make it.” This is not reasonable. Anything can happen. Accidents are called accidents for a reason. -
Central Idea: Drinking and driving is a very serious issue that needs to be looked at more carefully.
Putting together supporting evidence, reasons, and a claim in a persuasive text is a lot like building a puzzle. Without the outside border, the inside pieces won’t seem complete and without the inside pieces, you have an empty picture. Evidence and reasoning are the two basic pieces of your persuasive letter. Without these, you’ll simply have a frame—your claim—without information to complete the argument. Explaining how things connect for your reader is one of the most important ways to strengthen your argument.
You brought up a very good point. Cellphones, as you mentioned, and especially smartphones, have more uses than most people actually know about. Many criminals utilize these devices to trigger bombs to perform terrorist attacks. I have seen cases where cell phone devices have contained hacking tools used by criminals to decrypt passwords and take over target systems also. The usage of cell phone devices by means of criminal activity has been increasing drastically over the years and part of the reasons why is the fact that they pass private devices that can be used to store all sorts of confidential information in an encrypted format. Riley v California is a live example of the protection that criminals receive under the Fourth Amendment.
It may have taken me a while to find the right place but I’ve officially found it! Matteo’s Ristorante is a family style Italian restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida with a comfortable atmosphere and delicious food. As you walk into the restaurant your nose becomes overwhelmed with mouth-watering smells, you are greeted by friendly and sociable hosts, and the sounds of chatter and dishes clanking fill your senses. The velvet cushions on the chairs, spacious tables and TV’s that entertain sports fans make the atmosphere relaxing and entertaining. Matteo’s three best dishes include the baked clams as an appetizer, the creamy penne ala vodka as an entrée, and the cold vanilla ice-cream with chocolate hard shell for desert.
In high school I was required to write many different types of papers. In history class I had to write a research paper about someone or an event from the past. For this paper, I chose to write about the famous American Mobster, Al Capone. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about the early 1900 gangsters because my class watched “The Godfather” in class and I was very fascinated with the subject.
In my opinion I think it is a good idea to keep teens safe, and away from street racing and stuff like that. I think it is a good idea because teens now and days love to show off to their friends and will do stuff that can be dangerous towards themselves and the people around them. Most of the time teens are with friends in car they will love to have music really loud because they like to have fun but they never realize how big of a distraction it is to have loud music while driving. So with being able to control the speed that teenagers can drive at and the loudness of their music can be, parents will be able to worry less about their child speeding and getting in an accident or pulled over. Also with being able to control the loudness of
Richard Branson once said, “Every risk is worth taking as long as it’s for a good cause, and contributes to a good life.” Drinking alcohol is a risk itself, let alone drinking alcohol as a teenager. Drinking can cause interferences with the brain’s communication pathways, cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure, pancreatitis, steatosis, puts you at risk for certain cancers, and weakens your immune system. These are just a portion of what drinking can do to you. As a teenager your brain and body are still developing, drinking at an early age can stunt your development. Weed has effects of major effects on your emotional well being, and you don’t know whether they will be negative or positive effects, smoking weed puts you at risk for lung and respiratory problems. Smoking weed and drinking alcohol are risks teenagers our age our taking in order to release stress or they believe it will help them have a good time. Neither drinking nor smoking are risks that contribute to a
We all have that one goal and it usually starts with the new-year, a breakup, being bullied,or just wanting to feel better about yourself. When it comes down to it you stop doing it because maybe you feel: it doesn’t work, keep getting sick or maybe you just want to sink your teeth into a big greasy cheeseburger, many different reason why we quit dieting. Many Americans probably didn’t think about why they do a diet, the reason the doctors tell the certain people to go on a diet is because people don’t know that when a you’re overweight it puts stress on the lungs, heart and skeleton because it can’t hold the weight from the fat and other problems such as
Today we are going to focus on gathering information for our travel brochures. Your travel brochure will center on a monument, landmark, neighborhood or community of your choice. 3.Have a schedule laid out on the table so people would know what's going on. (good evening speech, dinner, show pictures of art and the creators.)

How often do people find themselves in situations when competition is apparent? From children of all ages in school to adults looking for jobs outside of school, competition is everywhere. I strongly believe that competition does improve everyday life because it increases motivation to do things, there is competition all over when becoming an adult, and it teaches good character traits and sportsmanship.
