Personal Philosophy of Education Essay

Outstanding teachers posses the following skills and or attributes: The ability to adapt to any changes that may occur, The cognitive skills to think quickly and logically, The virtue of patience to handle the repeating of information for those students who may not catch on quickly and finally The passion of teaching others to be better learners and the ability to listen and analyze the emotional, physical, and mental state of the students . Truly good educators remember that the image they exude is the example that is set forth for their students. A teacher provides high expectations for the students as well as his or her self to creates a positive atmosphere.

A teacher needs to be flexible and adaptable due to schedule changes, adapting lessons, gaining new students, adapting to various behaviors and various academic levels of students. A teacher needs to be assertive when advocating for the needs of their students, themselves and for their peers. To be outstanding you have to have compassion towards your peers, your students and their families. A teacher always need to be prepared for their day including designing lessons, creating materials, writing IEP's, knowing students levels, handling any behavior, that anything can happen and always have extra work. To be an outstanding educator you need to possess many important qualities. The qualities I believe are the most important are flexibility, creativity, and passion. The teachers I remember and relate to the most have those qualities. They are the areas that I believe I have strength in and the areas that will benefit my future students.

A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.

Must have the desire to teach and having the expertise in what you teach is the only way a teacher can be successful and effective. Enthusiasm and energy is vital in keeping the students involved. Students will be more apt to respond with enthusiasm and energy. A good teacher needs to be funny so that they can make boring moments in class fun and not near as boring. Also, a teacher needs to be caring and really care about her students. The teacher needs to be caring so that the students in the class feel important and wanted. Another characteristic a good teacher has is being nice, the teacher also needs to be nice so that if a student is having a bad day that they will be able to cheer the student up. There are numerous attributes an outstanding teacher exhibits inside and outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, a teacher is able to offer a positive learning environment, deliver instruction effectively, be fair, and be able to monitor and adjust right away. Outside of the classroom, a teacher actively participates in the community, is an influential teammate, receptive to reinforcement, is an exceptional role model, and is available for communication to parents.

An outstanding educator needs to be dedicated to the profession. Teaching is by no means an easy job. It requires one to plan lessons, differentiate instruction, create a classroom management system build rapport with the students, stay connected with the parents, and so much more. It involves a lot of hard work and an instructor needs to be willing to put in the time to do the work right. Being a fabulous teacher doesn?t mean that the job is over once the students leave at the end of the school-day. One needs to be willing to take their work home with them. To be an outstanding teacher an individual must be well organized. They must plan their lessons and be sure their classroom is organized. Planning out their lessons ahead of time allows them to make adjustments for any setbacks that may occur. A teacher must keep their work organized as well as their classroom. A well organized classroom sets an example for the students. Seeing how neat everything is may encourage them to be organized as well. Imagination is something very important to teaching. It allows a teacher to think outside the box when it comes to lesson planning and teaching. By changing up things it will keep the student engaged in learning and also making teaching more enjoyable. Lastly, a teacher must be dedicated to their work.

I have a tattoo on my arm that reads, “In teaching you will learn, in learning you will teach.” This Phil Collin’s lyric represents one of my core beliefs of being a successful teacher. I believe that students bring just as much, if not more, than a teacher does to the learning process. In my experiences, both as a student and a teacher, students learn best when they have a connection with their teacher and the material they are learning. This being stated, it is not always possible for a teacher to have a meaningful relationship with every one of their students and it is certainly not likely that students will find deep connections within each subject area of the required curriculum. There are, however, ways in which to expand and incorporate content into areas of student interest and work with students in the world that they are living in.

Just as service professions like a Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Police Officer, or Firefighter are not among the highest paying jobs, neither are most all education professions. An outstanding educator requires a passion and desire for teaching – that individual chooses to be a teacher because they want to make a difference in the lives of others. An educator must freely accept the rewarding feeling that comes with the profession. This passion shows through in a situation where a student is struggling and that teacher works one on one with that student for however long that is needed until that student achieves success in the subject. A passionate educator will work their hardest to see a student achieve, not because it shows they have done their job well, but simply so that each student can gain knowledge and achieve success. Teachers must be team-players and be able to see the big picture. They are willing to work for the good of the school, not only for the good of their own classroom or subject area. Commitment to learning focuses on the need to provide students with a variety of learning experiences, including the desire for academic success, a sense of lasting importance of learning and a belief in their own abilities. I will be present and on time for my commitment as a teacher, unless there is incidence of sickness or an emergency. My students suffer when I am not present because the current lesson is disrupted. Empathy is the third quality. A teacher must have the ability to bond with the students, to understand and resonate with their feelings and emotions. He/she need to put his/herself in students’ situation to understand and solve students’ problem. A good teacher must know that the aggression, negative attitudes that he/she can see in some students have a root cause. He/she know that they are really scared young people who have come through some bed experiences in life. This will keep a teacher calm and have control. If a teacher can do this, he/she will gain more than love from his/her students.
