Introduction
Upon completion of my undergraduate degree in Aviation Management, I will pursue a career with a major airline. Not only will I realize a life long dream but also it will be a personal accomplishment in an academic road that was often complicated. Ideals may change, values do not and some things just take a little more time to achieve.

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona solidified my passion for a career in aviation. Ivy League it isn't but it can be classified as the Harvard of the Skies for all practical purposes. That letter of acceptance provided me the validation I needed and the assurance that those with aviation expertise thought I "had what it

Although the airline industry is in the business to transport people from one place to another they could not function without those who keep the airplanes operating on schedule. The airline industry has become the major provider of public transportation for Americans traveling between the nation's cities. Scheduled airlines now account for 92%

of public passenger intercity travel. The outlook for the airline industry is good and continued growth is likely.
Airline jobs are located in every city that airlines serve and even in a few they do not serve. Of course, the larger the city, the greater the variety of job opportunities. Morale is generally high among employees and jobs with the airlines carries an aura of prestige and reflects the vitality of technological progress.

In recent years the Airline Industry in Europe has experienced good levels of growth. Despite instances of deceleration the market is forecasted to remain stable producing moderate growth through to the end of the forecast period in 2018. September 11, 2001, was a horrific event that rocked the world and the way people viewed the safety of airline travel. The airline industry was hit the hardest after that day and it was uncertain if they could regain their customer’s

American airline industry is steadily growing at an extremely strong rate. This growth comes with a number economic and social advantage. This contributes a great deal to the international inventory. The US airline industry is a major economic aspect in both the outcome on other related industries like tourism and manufacturing of aircraft and its own terms of operation. The airline industry is receiving massive media attention unlike other industries through participating and making of government policies. As Hoffman and Bateson (2011) show the major competitors include Southwest Airlines, Delta Airline, and United Airline.
The airline industry is greatly influenced by the the travel and tourism trends across the globe. The World Travel and Tourism Board states that the the level of tourism is likely to grow even as the years progress. The growth in the level of tourism is expected to grow at a level of 4.5 per cent annually. This is expected to continue upto 2017. Thus the organization should fully prepare it self and take over the tourism market.
L. Matske (personal communication, September 21, 2009). S. Matske was recently furloughed from a regional airline based in the United States. It is a great thing for the consumer to be able to get a roundtrip ticket to Hawaii for $100, but that level of pricing in unsustainable in the long run. Eventually, the airlines must re-evaluate their spending vs income and generally cut employees, which starts the ball rolling on the global economy changing. Aviation is one of the biggest single contributors to the world 's economy and it influences every industry in some form of fashion. Society as a whole relies on aviation in a day to day basis. For business meetings, job interviews, political missions, vacation, and countless more mission aviation is the only suitable way to accomplish these things. Many people rely on the countless missions that aviation delivers. We are now able to control forest fires at a much greater rate than we could even 10 years ago. Med-evacs are now common place and many people in rural areas rely on these for medical transport and life saving treatment. The U.S. Coast guard has saved countless lives in the waters that would not have otherwise been saved.
Airlines Industry is large and growing, it is also the most fiercely competitive sector. It facilitates international trade, world economy growth, tourism and international investment. The airline industry has over time with the use of modern technology been able to take advantage of the short haul, high frequency and gained a competitive advantage over other forms of travel, such as buses and railroad travel. Additionally, the airline industry still holds the market for global travel at a low cost and convenient way to travel. The aviation industry gives a good contribution to the GDP which includes the following: airline services, general aviation, civil airport operations, aircraft manufacturing, and
The hundreds of hours of flight time required to be a pilot come with a hefty price, so anyone who is a pilot has surely proven their passion and persistence for flying. However, it’s a wonder that this same dedication doesn’t follow through for some once they’ve landed a job with a major carrier and I think it may be because the path is often so strenuous that getting a job itself is treated as the goal, when it actually is a stepping stone to really being a pilot.
Neelman, understanding the next steps in growing the organization, brought together a highly skilled management team to run the company. Neelman providing the necessary strong leadership, along with the talented management team formulated clear operative goals and directions based on his vision. Decisions that were made emphasized the need to provide a better passenger experience such as choosing New York JFK as the home base of the airlines. Customer interaction (external environment) and employee satisfaction (internal) were the important factors in formulating the mission. The Mission statement included Safety, Caring and Integrity that can be attributed to the customers and the mission statement also included fun and passion that can be attributed to the employee satisfaction.
Since the airline industry is a direct product of market conditions, it is greatly affected by all externalities. Many people noticed a decline in travel after the September 11th tragedy occurred due to safety concerns. When there is a huge increase in fares that definitely interferes with the demand for travel; it causes the price of tickets to continue to rise since a clear correlation between supply and demand exists. When the economy is doing well in terms of the employment rate, and when the dollar is strong people have the tendency to travel more (Jerram,1998).
Southwest Airlines has developed the ability to attract top talent while retaining those already working within their company. This human resource function is one that companies are striving to continuously improve. In which many companies try to duplicate Southwest’s approach, but are not as successful as the customer service oriented airlines themselves. The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit. Fulfilling this mission statement begins within the recruiting and selection process. Finding the right people, with the right attitude, can be more challenging as one may think.

The growth of airline industry in any country is directly proportional to its GDP growth; the greater the business activity, the more air travel and the higher the GDP of the country. The demand
Substitutes to air travel pose a significant threat to the profits of the entire airline industry. It is advantageous to be in an industry with few or no substitutes as they diminish profitability for the industry as a whole. There are many alternative ways in which a person can travel long distances. Therefore, the airline industry is threatened by many substitutes. Trains are the primary substitute to air travel in that they provide long distance travel at marginally lower expense to the buyer. Train stations are also generally more accessible to the public than an airport, which adds further appeal to the substitute of traveling by rail. An advantage held by airlines is the fact that air travel is widely known to be a much faster mode of transportation, yet more and more buyers are choosing train travel over air travel strictly slight for the price advantage.
