The end project will be a five-part feature story that highlights individuals who have used a dating app. A separate feature story will profile a professional dating coach. Two feature stories will highlight two different couples that met online and are now married. Another will showcase a gay couple who met online. Finally, one who is unlucky in love. The focus of this project is to understand the dating world through the experiences of an individual, learning what has worked and what to avoid. The tips from each individual should help readers learn how to navigate the dating world and possibly become inspired to join it as well. I also strive to eliminate the taboo associated with dating apps and show how not everyone is on it for a hook-up; …show more content…
I will do a series of five feature stories: Two same sex couples, one opposite sex couple, a single person and a professional dating coach.
My justification for doing this project is because dating in the online world is difficult and relatively new. I am curious to learn what techniques worked for couples and what to avoid. This project should provide insight into the online dating world, and hopefully inspire individuals to join a dating app or try some new techniques.
1. A Seattle Times magazine article on the time commitment it takes for online dating. It profiles six Seattleites who have had varying degrees of success with dating apps but are all still looking for love. There is a multi-media aspect to the article, as a video is encrypted in the middle of the article which allows readers to hear stories from experts and daters on their personal experiences with online-dating.

By repeatedly motivating the reader to take “advantage of the myriad possibilities brought to [consumers] by the world wide web,” Hassler emphasizes the augmented number of options developed by dating sites but fails to mention the depths of these benefits (Hassler). More specifically, these opportunities especially appeal to those with busy schedules or those in careers, such as teaching, where they do not meet many available potential partners. Because of the convenience of dating apps, they can arrange dates to fit their schedule and with people they have already familiarized

Online dating is perhaps the fastest growing industry in this day and age. In 2016, over 50 million people in the United States had signed up for online dating sites, which bring in an annual revenue of around 2 billion. As the reach of the internet increases, so does the ability of businesses to find exactly what customers are looking for. Websites such Match.com, Eharmony, and Zoosk boast couples that met on their site and have been together for years, as well as their abilities to find “the one” just by answering a few questions. With numerous success stories and an international market, love seems guaranteed. However, only 20% of all relationships started online stay committed and successful.
Choices & options that accompany online dating: These topics are covered in the third and fourth chapters of Modern Romance, and mostly discusses the benefits of Online Dating, without forgetting to note a dangerous problem that stems from it. Ansari starts with the benefits, which include narrowing down potential dating partners based on interests, geographic location, race, religion, and any other characteristic people would like to pick by hand. Throughout his book Modern Romance, Aziz Ansari the author develops and explains concepts that are involved in romantic relationships. In his arguments he describes certain points that explain how romances were modernized with the advancement of the technology. The growth of technology has created new sources of communication like for example socials networks and other websites in the internet that allow people to have an easier search to find a partner when they are looking for one. One of the biggest arguments that author talks about is when he describes how technology has played an important role in romantic relationships. The use of technology that exists in the present day has become excessive and it is a good argument to discuss in the essay. Up to today the online services and socials networking sites have become important factor s in the search for that “perfect someone” that people want to share the rest of our lives with, but at the same time it becomes a dangerous weapon that disappoints, lies and destroys romantic relationships. It’s not really that technology influences bad things; but it is more up to the responsibility of people and the purpose they use it for. The fact that the technology has become a very helpful tool to date someone is something very common to do nowadays but also it is dangerous because people do not really know who they are talking to or who is behind the computers monitors. Although

Holloway and Valentine (2003) highlight that “for marginalized people, the internet allows them to meet other people alike to themselves who may not be immediately available in their local social circles” (Pascoe, 2011, p. 9). According to Pascoe (2009a) “young adults especially are at the forefront of developing, using, reworking, and incorporating new media into their dating practices in ways that might be unknown, unfamiliar and sometimes scary to adults” (p. 117).
