It might be hard to name someone more lonely than Michael from The Blind Side, but Lennie and George from Of Mice And Men are lonely in a different way. Lennie and George are lonely even though they have each other. Lennie and George in my opinion are not as lonely as Michael because they have each other but they still are alone all together. When Lennie and George are alone they are the only of their kind, they walk from town to town to work and then leave. When they are done working or something bad happens they have to leave as quickly as possible or they would be killed because they are considered villains. People who think that Lennie and George are more lonely than Michael, are wrong. They are wrong because Michael is lonely in
Lennie's only friend is George so Lennie does his best to not make him mad and get locked out by George.
Strong friendships have the power to make people’s lives better. George and Lennie travel together and eventually live together, resulting in a strong bond between them. George cares for Lennie and he makes sure
All in all, it can certainly be said that loneliness is one of the central themes on which Of Mice and Men is built. Just like people today, the characters deal with difficulty dealing with and struggling against loneliness. Each character searches for companionship, because as Crooks said,
Loneliness is the sadness resulting from being isolated or abandoned. Being lonely is almost always directly connected to relations between people, or the lack there of. Mother Teresa once said “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” In John Steinbecks classic novel, Of Mice And Men, the three characters, Crooks, Curley’s wife and Candy struggle with loneliness in different forms because of characteristics that they can’t control. All three characters deal with their loneliness by searching for companionship with others on the ranch and this works out differently for each of them.
In a society of people all in the same situations how can someone feel so alone. When lives fall apart and people have nothing to hold on to people need each other most, yet are pushed so far from others. The novel Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, follows the storyline of two men who are displaced farm workers during the Great Depression; they travel around and stick by each other’s sides no matter the circumstance. After many jobs they end up on a farm, the farm they hope will be their last stop. The time spent on the farm is filled with blooming friendships and careless quarrels, yet with an abundance of characters and entertainment- many people on the farm feel alone and out of place. Characters such as Crooks and Curley’s wife often come to mind when the subject of loneliness is brought up. Throughout the book using characters such as Crooks and Curley's wife, John Steinbeck demonstrates that humans are immensely impacted by separation from society and it will change the way that people will act and show themselves to others.
Lennie and George are the ones with the most stable relationship. George, poor and homeless, and Lennie, with all that plus his challenged mental, are ones that can hardly be thought to be happy in their society. However, they are more to the happy side. The existence of a partner makes them go to the happier side. They have been together for a
Lennie and George are one of the most popular kinds of the duo archetypes. Lennie’s the strong one, he can lift bags of barley better than any other tag-team could. He’s beefy, taller than most, easily noticeable in a crowd. And as the archetype usually goes, the not as smart one, he relies heavily on George, and if not for George he would most likely be in horrible situations all the time, even more so than he was in the book. George is the smart one and the leader, havin’ all the plans for success and givin’ all the directions for burley over there. Small, he is, even if it doesn’t show as much as people would have thought in the movie. He is also cynical, or perhaps apprehensive may be a better term, to everyone but Lennie at first met. Together they create the archetype that’s often in mystery stories.
Steinbeck's belief is that those who do not deserve it, needs affection and attention. Steinbeck created so many lonely characters in the book, but not George and Lennie they are blessed to have each. George knows how depressing the lifestyle him and Lennie live in, he even says “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no fambly. They don't belong no place” (32). An example of truly lonely character would be Curly, the reason he is so aggressive and mean is because he has a lot of self hatred and he tend to take it out on others. Curly knows that his dad don't care for him much Steinbeck is also saying
George and Lennie’s relationship seems to stand to deter a similar fate. George claims that his life would be much easier and much simpler if Lennie was gone. George claimed that he, “‘Why, I could stay in a cat house all night. I could eat any place I want, hotel
Nevertheless people though that Lennie was the loneliest when in reality it was George. George was the most lonely in the story not only because he was with Lennie all the time and Lennie isn't really someone he can communicate with, but because he had no one else around that he could actually talk to in fear that if they communicate with Lennie they’ll hear something from their past that he doesn’t want them hearing. George says “If I didn't have you I could get a
<br>All the characters on the rank suffer from loneliness, and this is down to having no friends. They all in some way or other envy George and Lennie because no matter what happens George and Lennie have each other as
“Loneliness is my least favorite thing about life. The thing that i’m most worried about is just being alone without anybody to care for or someone who will care for me” (Hathaway). people in reality can have hard times with loneliness just like these characters in Of Mice and Men. Confinement effects characters in Of Mice and Men by isolating Curley’s wife from the workers, no family with Candy, and isolating Crooks from white society.
George and Lennie encounter a vast amount of problems throughout the story. One of them being survival. Since Lennie cannot take care of himself George looks after him, which makes survival twice as hard for George. George even says on page five to six, “I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail. I could live so easy and maybe have a girl.”
The combination of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl is one of the most depressing and loneliest times in History. In the book Of Mice and Men two characters, George and Lennie are workers traveling along looking for work. The story takes place on a new farm where they meet new characters going more in depth on what life is like during these times. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck Develops the concept of loneliness through Curley’s wife and her restrictions, Crooks race, and Candy’s inability to work to demonstrate how loneliness has the ability to make someone treat others negatively. Curly’s wife although very different from the guys who worked on the farm, she is just as much the same.
The loneliness of Crooks, Lennie, Candy, and Curleys wife is shown in many different ways. The first person that is lonely is Crooks, he is lonely because he is an outcast. For example, since he is black people make him sleep in his own room all alone. The second person that is lonely is Lennie, he is lonely because George is not with him. For example, as soon as George goes to the bar Lennie becomes very lonely and looks for people to talk to. The third person that is lonely is Candy, he is lonely because he does not have his dog anymore. For example, as soon a candys dog dies he becomes very sad and quiet. The fourth person that is lonely is Curleys wife, she is lonely because she does not love her husband
