Throughout this class, I have learned many things and I have also improved. This quarter, my writing has developed a lot, on my papers I have wrote I usually can't write a paper then and there, but on the literacy walk in essay I got a good score which I was proud of since that’s the first time I had done that. Usually, I don’t get very good scores, but I have learned a lot and how to write a good paper which led to me getting a good score. Another way in which I have improved in writing is how to use less fragments and also do less run-on sentences. Before this class I would do a lot of run-on sentences and many fragments. I have learned how to use better word choice and better sentence structuring.

In my Friday finals I would use a lot of fragments, but on the argumentative essay I didn’t have a lot anymore. Another thing is that now I know how to use better wording and how to phrase sentences properly and so they can sound better as well. Some difficult literature pieces we read were The Crucible, Abby's Lament, Everyone's An Author, and other college pieces of literature. Reading these challenging pieces of literature has helped me improve my reading skills and …show more content…
Such as frags, run-on sentences, and also being more informative and less vague. My fragments have gotten better but I still make errors sometimes like in my argumentative essay I got a couple points took off for it. My run-on sentences are not that bad anymore as well but i still have to work on them also. The one problem I have the most with is being too vague, I do not provide enough information and do not always back up my statements. This can be a problem because providing evidence can be a big part of your grade. Sometimes that can be the reason you are doing the paper, so the teacher can see how well you can back up your statements with evidence. Backing your statements with evidence is a big part of writing a paper since it will let the reader know that you are not just rambling or ranting, it will let them know that you have evidence on why it is
Prior to taking this class, my only real experience with writing consisted of text messages, e-mails, and employee appraisals. Influenced largely by the casual nature of social networking, I never took the time to reflect on my inability to communicate clearly and professionally via the written word. Given the relative success I experienced after dropping out of high school, I never really developed an appreciation for higher education. I worked primarily with my hands and didn’t understand the need to seek colligate writing skills. I planned to make my living off of the skills of my trade and had no intentions of expanding my career opportunities with needless classes. Now that I am in my thirties and lead a large military workforce, I am
Ever since I can remember, I’ve struggled with writing. It just wasn’t something that came natural to me and always resulted in a very uncomfortable process. Throughout this class, I have become more comfortable with writing and its components. Though, this is only writing 101, my skill level has increased immensely. Before starting this course, writing was uncomfortable and confusing, but towards the end, my knowledge has expanded and I can more comfortably take on the majority of writing assignments.
I succeeded more in the formal writing because we learned ways to make the writing easier. One thing that helped was outlining. In class we learned that “prewriting builds cohesion and coherence of the body of the essay” (Appendix I). Outlining helps you organize your paper and see if all of your ideas connect with each other. (Appendix I). Before this class, I would never make an outline and all of my papers were incoherent and sloppy. This process helped me to become more
The beginning of my junior year seems like it was such a long time ago. This may be because of how much I have grown since the start of the year. When I began AP English, my writing skills needed improvement. For instance, I often used incorrect grammar and struggled with staying on topic. In just one semester, my writing has improved immensely. The more than I write, the more I learn about how to craft a good paper. I have worked on improving my grammar, using rhetoric, addressing my subject, and many more elements of writing. In addition to improving my writing, I have gained many skills to become a better student. I have learned about effective study techniques and time-management skills that allow me to be the most successful. Since I always try my best, I know that over time I will continue to grow in my studies. This year I have gained countless skills that will help me succeed in English in the future.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.
Throughout the course of this semester, I have learned so much about writing. I used to think writing was my best skill in terms of school, but after taking this course, I realized I have a lot to learn still. In high school English was always my highest grade because of my writing, my writing in my SAT scores was always the highest, and last semester in ENGL 1301, I got a high A in the course. But this course has challenged me as a writer to think outside of the box and be more academically smarter in terms of writing. The journals have helped me write about things that we like more than the other assignments because it gives us more freedom and flexibility about what we can write about. These journals are being used as a tool as practice
After looking at all the written assignments I have completed for this class in particular, I definitely noticed differences and progress in my writing. With every assignment I have submitted this semester, I have noticed a progress in my writing and as well as in the delivery of my intended messages. Although explanation can be important
One challenge that I face in my writing is not incorporating enough details in my examples in my essay. For example, in my rough draft for my application essay I was explaining what extracurricular activities I do, and I said, “On Tuesdays I go to a group called Be The Change and we do different fundraisers and events to help the community.” Although, I gave a little bit of information of what I do throughout the week; I could have explained what fundraisers and events we did in the community. One strength about my writing is using a larger vocabulary to entice the reader. For example, in the Macbeth essays I did the journal, and I was writhing about when Macbeth killed King Duncan. I wrote, “With his hot and sticky blood disgorged
To effectively revise and edit my research paper, I read it carefully, as I played the reader`s role instead of that of a writer. In addition, I used a number of strategies to effectively revise and edit my research paper. First, I read my paper aloud as I listened for errors. After carefully listening, I was able to identify and correct errors in my writing, including grammar, incorrect sentence structure, incomplete ideas, and incorrect punctuation. While reading, I could stop and rectify the mistake at the point where I could note it. In addition, I read each sentence at a time so that I could digest the structure and identify any error. Prior to the reading, I noted down the common errors I usually commit while writing such as the omission
Looking back in this class, I have realized just how much my writing has improved since the beginning
When I ended my Writing 39 class that was the start of my endeavor to evolve into a better writer. My pervious writing class defiantly helped me make the transition to Writing 39B. This class is contributing to help me become a improved writer through the RIPs, readings, and rhetorical analysis essay . Writing has always been a subject that I struggle with, so this class is one of my challenging classes this quarter. Besides Writing 39B and I am taking Chemistry 1C, Chemistry Laboratory, Anthropology 1A and Psychology 7A. My additional classes make it difficult for me to dedicate extra time to this class. Nevertheless, I balance my classes to dedicate the appropriate amount of time into this class. I work diligently to complete the assignments
Before taking this class, my writing was clumsy and short – I couldn’t melt down my ideas properly. They were everywhere. I didn’t have one concept I was focusing so it was confusing for the reader to find the concept, the core of my writing while reading it. I do think that my writing had changed over the semester. It became more honest as the perspective I perceived the world has changed. Even few months ago, I only concentrated only in bringing the moments in words, so the memory was distorted and the frankness of the writing was lost. Furthermore, I realized that writing should be rough, messy, but meticulously edited. Clumsy writing is different from messy. Messy writings are more honest and nail the point the writer wants to say. My classmates
Throughout this semester I have improved immensely through my writing. At the beginning of the semester I didn’t understand what MLA format was, where to place commas, how to cite a source, or how to make a works cited page. As you can see literature wasn’t really my forte. Throughout the semester I have slowly seen my writing grow and improve. Although the writings continued to become more complicated, I have many examples on how I improved throughout this semester.
Throughout this school year, I have written many different kinds of papers. Those different kinds of papers include narratives, analysis, and arguments. This year in English, I was very successful with some of the parts of my papers, but there were other parts I struggled with. I had some things like my introductions and the way I explained things that were great. But things like my conclusions and my transitions still needed some work. So, throughout this year I have been working to improve those things.
This year, I have faced a lot of challenges with writing and reading that I never really thought could happen. The readings and writing that I have done from this assignment are similar to the readings and writings I have done in the past. In the past my teachers always made sure that I ,as an student, understood how to go more in depth with my writing and how to consider the reader as I was writing. They also taught me how to analyze and how to explain and support the realization I made. The difference between the writings and reading I have done now and the ones I have did in the past is that I was taught how to think rhetorically and how I could use different rhetorical devices by writing. You have to really consider the individual , your audience and cultural things too.I have definitely improved on the width of my paragraphs and how to use a hook to get the reader's attention. Some set goals that I have set for myself and my future of writing is improving on my ability to compose in multiple environments, my knowledge of convention and my metacognition. I would like to improve on my ability to compose in multiple environments because I kind of favor writing with pen and paper more than I do of typing my work up. I would like to get comfortable with typing so that if it's mandatory to type I would be able to do it effectively. I would like to improve on my knowledge of convention because I would like to spot out most of my errors and correct them in the process of my
