Movie trailers are a tricky bit of movie marketing. When they are done well, they should entice people to come and see the movie but they should not give away too much of the film because that can ruin it for people. With all the years that the talent in Hollywood has in marketing films through trailers, you would think they'd have the expertise to get trailers right every time. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Just as there are bad movies, there are very poorly done trailers. There have been standout examples of bad trailers for some movies. One example is that for “The Sum of All Fears,” the Tom Clancy book turned into a movie from 2002. The big dramatic build up in the movie is whether the nuke actually goes off or does the
‘The word genre means ‘type’ or ‘category’’ (Teach yourself film studies) it is really important as an audience member to recognise genres as then things become categorised and easier for them to understand which is more comforting. Sometimes however genres are crossed and categories are broken for example sometimes we have ‘action thrillers’ or ‘sci-fi horrors’ this is known as a hybrid genre. This often intrigues the audience and draws them to the film as it changes their outlook as they have no expectations for the film as they have never been exposed to this genre before.
Movie trailers have been one of the most compelling way of attracting the audience to fall in love with what they are advertising. When they watch the movie trailers, it make the viewer feel suspenseful or excited depending of the genre of the movie a individual would enjoy to watch. In most genres for movies such as action, sci-fi, and so forth, the trailers that are being advertised to show the most important plots in the movie which at times can be violent. However, in most cases, a majority of people who go to see the movie after watching the movie trailers end up having mixed feelings about what they saw because they expected more from it due to the trailers. Some people, on the other hand, imitate what they see in the movies and try doing it in real life. Good amounts of people try to imitate what they see in the movies most of the time, and it usually costs them their lives or the lives of
Movie marketing is a tricky thing. A movie could be a complete disaster, but if the marketing is done right, the movie will do well. If the movie a delightful, but the marketing is done badly, the movie could bomb and cost the studio a lot of money. I’ve seen it happen a lot over the years. Remember that movie John Carter? That movie cost a LOT of money to produce. I saw the movie since I already read the books and knew from what I saw that it was going to be a fun film to watch, but from a marketing standpoint, and having been a marketing major in college, I knew the movie was going to bomb. Why? No one knew what the hell it was about or who the hell John Carter was.

Last month I attended Professor Farrell’s speech on Universal Studio horror films at the library in Mauldin. The purpose of this speech was to entertain his audience by using visual aids to speak on Universal Studio horror movies from 1931 to 1945. The speech included many versions of films such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and The Invincible Man. Professor Farrell did an incredible job entertaining the audience and speaking on the differences between each version of films. I’m going to take the seven steps of the Shannon –Waver Model to critique his speech. The Shannon-Weaver model was designed to improve communication and includes specific concepts such as sender, message, channel, Receiver, feedback, noise and context.
The media has a way of influencing people of all ages. Specifically, violence and horror in the media are the most debated. Why do people go to watch violent movies or horror movies? They go for entertainment without realizing the physical or mental effects. Kathy Benjamin’s “5 Scientific Ways Watching Movies Effects You” and Bernie DeGroat’s “Scary Movies Can Have Lasting Effects on Children and Teens” both mention the negative effects of movies, especially horror movies, with research or studies. However, only one of the essays, “5 Scientific Ways Watching Movies Effects You,” mentions some positive effects. Statistics have shown that watching these type movies can have short and long term repercussions.
Trailers are the best way to advertise for an upcoming movie, and must be absolutely amazing to captivate a big audience. Nicholas Sparks' Safe Haven trailer gave away just enough information, left the audience craving for
Think of your synopsis like a good movie trailer; they don’t include EVERY plot twist, character name or special effect, do they? No, they give you just enough to be able to tell the story and get excited over learning more. In the trailers for the Green Hornet movie, I don’t think I ever once saw the face of a villain; just the two good guys leaping around doing cool stuff. Sure, there was a basic “plot,” but not seeing the bad guy’s face didn’t
Throughout the trailer there are snippets of humor and innuendos mixed into high level teenage girl drama, as this is the target audience of this genre it's appropriate to be relatable and appeal to people's guilty pleasures (although many wouldn't admit it, everybody loves a bit of gossip). The trailer is composed of mainly mid shots focusing on people's faces and what they're saying, this is important as it focuses the viewer's attention on the humor which is important to convey when trying to entice people into watching a new movie given the short space of time in a trailer. The format of this trailer introduces the popular girls and school to Cady the new student, the voiceover explains who her new friends are, the dynamics of

At the start of the trailer, the background soundtrack is very calm and soothing, but as the minutes of the trailer increase, the build up of tension and quickness in the soundtrack increases too, loud instruments and sharpness of the sound are formed and the instruments are all played at the same time near to the end of the trailer where the upsetting ending happens, the instrument and sound techniques create tension and the build up of suspense synchronizing with the ending of the trailer, also the suspense wants to match the feelings an individual would have when getting closer to knowing what happens in the end. ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ transforms from a novel into a movie. The speed of the trailer decreases towards the
However, millions of movie fans are complaining about bad action movies. Bad action takes away from a film just as much as bad acting, but the studios have no system in place to protect movie fans from bad action..
