Hi Micquaya. When I think of mental health itself, I do not automatically think of people that are suffering from a psychological issue. Mental health to me is just your psychological status. Mental illness causes me to think a psychological issue. The two are not the same in my eyes. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Physical health is just the status but if I were to say a physical disability it is completely different. The ways to promote good mental health are numerous. Taking care of your body is definitely a good way. Many times our mental status is directly related to our physical health. I know for me, it is hard to think clear when I do not get enough sleep.

Growing up in poverty , what we would consider the “hood” the young black males are targeted because of where they are coming from and growing up at . For example , Lil Durk is from Chicago , but has the same struggle as the kids growing up in poverty in Dallas , Compton , Houston and etc because it is all the same just a different hood. Lil Durk says “we can just be standing on the block and the police might just pull up and tell all we get on the wall and search us for no reason, just because we young black and in the hood and they think we up to no good. “ That only happens to people in poverty because the police just look at black people as the problem starter. Mum Betts was born a slave circa 1742, spending her young adult years in the household of John Ashley in Massachusetts. When Ashley's wife attacked her, Betts appealed to a local abolitionist, who brought her case to the courts. Betts was granted her freedom and 30 shillings in damages in 1781, with the case Brom and Betts v. Ashley. Betts became a paid servant and raised a family on her wages. Mum Bett, or “Mumbet” as she was referred to passionately, proved to be extremely determined in ending the slave trade in the new Commonwealth of Massachusetts when she successfully sued for freedom in 1781, amazingly becoming the first African-American woman to win her freedom from slavery.

On May 2, 2012, the National Football League lost one of its elite players to suicide: Junior Seau. Seau played for the Chargers, Dolphins, and the Patriots during his professional football career and was a 12-time Pro Bowler before retiring in 2009. Three years after his retirement however, Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with a gun. One thing about the news today that my Mawmaw has noticed is how it has changed so much since she was young. If there was a shooting or a tragedy, it was a rare occasion. Today, a major crime happens weekly. From the church shooting in Georgia, to the explosion in France, and, just recently, the shooting in Colorado at the abortion clinic all happened within months of each other. She especially recognizes how the devil is attacking young people of today.

What is a Nigger? This one term holds hatred that has transcended generations, and though now only whispered in the homes of white elitist and the ignorant, still is at the root of many of the racial issues African American’s face in America. Despite this, within the African American community the word “nigger” has transformed into the word “nigga”. Yaez Mon was a small island that had little to no contact with the European states until the 1400’s. Although it was close enough to see from Europe, nobody really payed attention to it until the continent began colonizing the “new” world. Yaez Mon was colonized by Great Britain under the rule of Henry VIII, in 1515. I love to tell stories about my childhood. Looking back now, through all of my life’s experiences, it almost feels like I was living in a fairy tale. It brings both joy and sadness to my heart when I share these memories with my daughter. The joy comes from remembering how things were back then and how those things impacted my life today. The sadness comes from knowing that she will never get to experience those things, therefore, she will only get to live them through me.
