What is…. And what could be? That is how a presentation can go depending on how you present your message. Using Steve Jobs and MLK (both known to history as being great speakers and motivators), Nancy Duarte showed that these men did not rely on some pre-written speech to dictate how their messages would come across. Establishing your point, acknowledging what is and what could be, and finally say why others should listen to what you have to say. It is also critical to make sure you are addressing the right audience. If you stick to a boring presentation, there is no clear vision for the future. I will definitely take this TedTalk into consideration when presenting to the class. Using her point of reputation, I will try to present my idea in
RFK made a speech about MLK and he had to tell everyone that MLK had been shot and killed. The central idea of “On the death of Martin Luther King Jr.” RFK wants us to know that we can all come together and instead of acting in riots and anger we can act in peace like MLK wanted us to. RFK wanted us to know that we can act in peace and come together as one and not fight but be at peace to continue the dream of MLK. The most compelling speech was On the death of Martin Luther King Jr.” speech. I said this speech was most compelling because RFK wanted us to know that we should treat everyone equal.
After reading and analyzing Dr.Kings “Remaining Awake during a Revolution” commencement speech that he presented at Oberlin College during his graduation ceremony; he wanted the people to have a good visual on what he was explaining and talking about. King wanted to inform the people about what was going; so he used allusions, statics, and logos.
Robert F. Kennedy delivered a speech to communicate that even though Martin Luther had sadly passed away, we as american citizens should continue to bring MLK’s dream to life and should pass on his lessons. In his speech, RFK, uses sympathy and honesty to deliver the message without the crowd rioting and getting worked up. Robert Kennedy also seems to stress quite a bit that this country can be a great place with out the violence.
My definition of intersectionality is how a person's or group's race, class and gender can coincide and lead to a difference in treatment for how those coincide. For many minorities then it just leads to worse discrimination, or for example, a poor, black woman would face harsher discrimination since they had three counts against them. In class when we watched Kimberlé Crenshaw’s Ted Talk about intersectionality, she brought up images of black men who faced police brutality and there were more well known, but when she brought up black women who also faced police brutality and there was a much smaller amount of people in attendance who recognized those women than those who recognized the men (Slide 5). For me this is how intersectionality plays out, since the only difference between the cases was gender, and women are seen as less than men and would not be as publicized. I think that the game we played in class as well because it showed how intersecting identities
What I learned from this Ted Talk is that kids from not so good neighborhoods don’t do so well in school. Their parents don’t have enough money for things like school supplies, food, and clothes. Cops are more mean to people that have very little money then to people that have a lot of money and go to nice schools. People from “ghetto” neighborhoods are most likely to get stopped and be searched or arrested then people from good neighborhoods. An 18 year old kid got in a fight with someone because they called his mom a “crackwhore.” People from most good schools don’t get taken to court for a small fight at school, but this 18 year old did and he got charged as an adult.
Support your presentation with the concepts discussed in class and in the text, and your personal experiences.
The March on Washington in 1963 is where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made a legendary speech. That even he didn’t prepare for but expected. The essence of this speech is to inform and to persuade the whites that black people are equal to white people. With a desire for equal rights he expressed his wishes for civil rights in including jobs and freedom, along with the other 200,000 people. Stating that blacks should be treated the same as whites, under Gods eyes we are all the same. That Martin Luther King Jr. has a dream for whites and blacks to be holding hands on the free mountains of all states as brothers and sisters. To have blacks and whites under the same civil rights laws was his and the other 200,000 protesters reason for the march. They were all fighting for proportionate rights nonbelligerent.
My subject, the treatment of crime and criminal offenders, is tied to controversy by definition. Justice is what defines crime and how we treat criminals and the accused, but justice itself is widely open to interpretation. Some believe that justice should be restorative, while others believe that it should be retributive. Even in the comments section of this TED Talk, it is easy to observe the many different opinions people have on crime. This subject is also full of conflict because of people acting on their controversial opinions. Without going into specifics, there have been many events in recent history where people have risen up to protest their government`s interpretation of justice and crime, and this has caused massive conflict.
This week in class the Ted Talks were quite interesting. One of the ones that stood out to me the most was the talk about about the plane-car. I thought it was cool that people are innovating new ways of transportation. Another Ted Talk that stood out was one that discussed a marshmallow activity that children seemed to beat adults in. One of the things the Talk concluded is that incentives like money does not equal success. I enjoyed the discussion/debate about the pen and the morals and ethics surrounding it. I felt like the whole class was engaged and had their own opinions about whether it is right or not to fire someone over one pen or thousands of pens.
Most time when money does not bring happiness, it is due to how the person is using it. In a Ted Talk by Michael Norton, he talks about how when used correctly money can buy happiness. In his Ted Talk he made the claim that if money doesn’t bring you happiness, then you’re using it wrong (Norton). Often, people who do not find happiness from money are spending it in an antisocial manner, as Norton explained. It has been found that when money is spent “prosocially” those spending the money tend to be much happier than those that spend on themselves. We see this type of behavior from those who are constantly “keeping up with the Joneses”. In an article relating to this topic it says that “Some people may not be able to ‘keep up with the Joneses’
I am a year 11 student from St.Aloyouse Collage. I really enjoyed you speech. The reason why I write this letter to you is because I was listening your Ted Talk “The danger of a single story” in my EAL class last week. I found it is a seriously social issue, and I also had some individual opining which I want to share with you.
That articue that I choose to talk as written by Zack Budryk, and actually in this article makes references about the speech of TED Talk, management theorist Simon Sinek talks about what makes an effective leader. Indeed he states that a leader it’s far more than just authority, he says, “leader it's creating an environment that fosters cooperation and trust.” Also, Sinek states that leaders cannot control external factors, so the deciding factors are entirely within their organizations and it's up to leaders to set the tone. I really enjoy how Sinek describe the meaning of being a leader indeed he says, “The closest analogy I can give to what a great leader is, is like being a parent” because if all of us think about what being a great parent
Martin Luther King Jr. was a minister and a human rights activist. He was in Birmingham, Alabama to lend a hand to other activists who were attempting to have a peaceful demonstration to protest the injustice that were occurring. Martin Luther King Jr. was not a violent man, he was dedicated and passionate about the fair treatment of everyone. He was called to Birmingham to help provide a peaceful demonstration. However, he was arrested and put in a Birmingham City Jail because he tried to stand up for his fellow African Americans. While in jail he wrote an essay where he talked about injustice, morals, rights, just laws and unjust laws. He had seen segregation, injustice, and racial discrimination.
One of the questions that almost everyone in the world is asking themselves is am I normal. It is easy to answer people question if their blood pressure is normal, it is easy to answer about health issues because it is something that people would have in common, but people misunderstood it to be something that is not relevant to them such as thinking that if someone does not have the same accent as you are, then they are not normal.
Dr. Martin Luther King delivered a powerful speech for freedom on August 28,1963. Thinking of his children’s lives, only wanting freedom for them against racialism. So they can live equally against prejudices of color, only being judged by the content of their character. For America to become one nation, this must ring true. His deeply rooted dream is that our nation needs to rise up to these truths. Neverless, becoming true to the meaning of its creed that all men are created equal.
