African-American people have been treated unequally compared to people of European descent. For example, african-americans could not use certain public things like water fountains; when it comes to restaurants, black people had to go to the back to eat. Another thing, black people had to attend different schools than white people furthermore, the schooling was not as good as the others. The way african-americans were treated was not justified in any way at all. To explain, the african-americans probably felt horrible about the mistreatments they experienced. When they had to go to the backs of restaurants it was very inconvenient and they were basically being shamed and ridiculed all day no matter where they went. Some of them weren’t even
In the history of the United States, African Americans have always been discriminated against. When Africans first came to America, they were taken against their will and forced to work as laborers. They became slaves to the rich, greedy, lazy Americans. They were given no pay and often badly whipped and beaten. African Americans fought for their freedom, and up until the Civil War it was never given to them. When the Civil War began, they wanted to take part in fighting to free all slaves. Their opportunity to be soldiers and fight along side white men equally did not come easily, but eventually African Americans proved themselves able to withstand the heat of battle and fight as true American heroes.
As I was conducting research about police brutality I came up with three questions I wanted to find out. I wanted to know what race group is affected by police brutality the most, why they were affected by this the most and what to do to stop police brutality involving shooting civilian. This Paper talk about how police brutality is a major issue in America right now. There’s many different types of police brutality but police officers killing civilians is something that is issue in our nation currently. After doing reaching this topic I was able to find out that African Americans have been affected by this the most out of any race. African Americans are affected by this the most because in some cases African Americans are usually stereotyped and this causes them to be treated different by police. Ways we can help this issue is by supporting these organizations that are against police brutality and encouraging police officers around the nation to always have a body camera on them at all times.
Before the Emancipation Proclamation, the blacks were rushed to enlist for the Union during the Civil War but they are not allowed to join the army because of the Federal law dating from 1792 barred Negroes from serving for the US army. Although they already joined the war since the American Revolution and the war of 1812. After the first Emancipation Proclamation was executed, the African-American could serve the Federal Army, the first regiment was the 54th Massachusetts, though there were all black soldiers but there were no black commissioned officers-only whites. In that regiments, the blacks are not paid as equal as the whites, they were only being paid 10$ per month from which 3$ was deducted for clothing while the whites were paid 13$ and no clothing allowance was drawn.
America from the colonial days to the Civil War era was not the land of the free. Many groups in America were not treated equal to their peers. African Americans were the prime example of unequal treatment. African Americans were almost always treated as less than any American citizen, whether they lived in the North or the South. Women were also treated almost exactly the same as slaves. They did all the housework and barely had any rights at all. America, at that time, was clearly anything other than the land of the free.
As we have seen, African Americans haven't had such an easy way of living. They go through many struggles a day. I personally don’t think that they deserve to get treated like this, the whites are so harsh on them even when it comes to little kids. They have a lot of laws regarding blacks, one of them is that if a slave is caught reading before the war is liable they have to receive thirty-nine lashes, and from my understanding, is they get hit that many times for disobeying that law. For everything that they do there always has to be a punishment. Also the blacks don’t have lots of money, they are basically poor, but luckily during the reconstruction about two hundred charitable groups opened up saving accounts to help them out a bit. In
The oppression of African Americans is a part of the foundation that the United States was built upon. From the time of the Jim Crow laws that mandated the separation of whites and African Americans, to the present day where many institutions make decisions based on race, marginalization of African Americans has been ingrained into society. The Jim Crow laws claimed to make everyone equal, but instead it legally separated whites and African Americans by having establishments for whites only and establishments for African Americans only. Although there are not laws enforcing African Americans to be treated differently from the majority group anymore, African Americans have been continuously marginalized even after abolishing the Jim Crow Laws with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
1. The Jacksonians were not as they viewed themselves to be considering the unfair treatment of Native Americans and African Americans which can be exhibited by the Indian Removal act,Trail of tears and the advancement of slavery.
In today 's society, it seems like history is repeating itself when it comes to police brutality against African Americans. I can’t breathe advertisement was created to increase the awareness of excessive force, which can cause death. After the Eric Gardner case, the “I can’t breathe” slogan was created and was even printed on t-shirts. People had mixed reactions towards the campaign and opinions were heard. Wal-Mart had to take down their ad simply because the black man said, “I can’t breathe”, which caused people to be overly sensitive about the subject. This caused controversy, stating that the ad shouldn’t been more aware of the sensitive topic.
Throughout history, people had to fight or protest to be heard. An example of this would be African Americans endeavoring to secure their rights in the United States. It seems as if the oppressor is apathetic towards the people striving for the freedom they deserve. I concur with Martin Luther King’s statement “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed” because of the history of African-Americans in the United States, privileges because of race and ignorance amongst the oppressor.
America is known as the land of the free, but it hasn't always been free for everyone. In the time of the Jim Crow laws; African Americans were being segregated, discrimination upon, and racism hung heavy over everyone. The laws stated that these people born and raised in America were not allowed to go to the same schools as the others they see around them. It's not that these people were in any way incapable of going to school with white students it was only that they looked a little different. People averted their gaze and blinded themselves from the truth of what was going on. The racism that they experienced is exactly the same as the discrimination our society puts on people with mental disorders; the government, who is also discriminatory
Within any society there will be discrimination whether someone is discriminated by his or her race, gender or sexual orientation. One of the most infamous types of discrimination is towards African Americans. From the birth of the United States to today’s society there has been discrimination towards African Americans. From schools to homes there has been discrimination. Although the racism is nowhere near as harsh today as it used to be it is still around.
African Americans are oppressed and have been oppressed since they were brought here from Africa. In the book Native Son when Max was defending Bigger he explained to the court how white people have oppressed black people, and how this plays apart in the crimes that black people commit, “ We have told him what to do; where to live; how much schooling he could get; where he could eat; and where and what kind of work he could do,” (Wright 394). Although we are not this controlled anymore, we are still oppressed and it has been said that for lots of black males that oppression leads to lashing out and anger, ( Alexander 164). And because of this, we still reap the consequences from this horrific time in history.
African Americans have been through all the hatred, and all the abuse already and they thought that the time period for that has been put behind them, but now they see that it has not. I have personally heard blacks talk about how they are tired of being scared and having everyone look at them like they were doing something wrong just because of their skin color. The #BLACKLIVESMATTER is a warning to whites that they have a voice and that they do matter and they would not back down and let them take away their family anymore and put fear in their heart anymore. Most black people believe since we have already been through this we can turn it around like they did back in the day that can be true but nowadays people do not have the same mind set
African Americans were slaved for over 100 years, and been segregated for over 100 years. After Civil War ended it, slavery was over but African Americans didn’t have any rights, so they received rights throughout the years. African Americans were segregated by the whites and from schools, bathrooms, stores, restaurants, and water fountains. African Americans and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. fought for their rights around the 60s. After Martin Luther King was assassinated, African Americans were given equal rights in 1968. Even though we have equal rights, African Americans are still treated unfairly.
In 1992 a black man by the name of Rodney King was beaten extensively by police for speeding. The officers did not serve time in jail, which was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Many blacks living in Los Angeles at this time took part in violent riots to show the US they would not take the abuse anymore. Year after year, uprising after uprising, African Americans are promised to be seen as equal to whites, given equal opportunities and be provided equal rights. However, things have still yet to change. African Americans have been victims of oppression and have suffered immensely for nothing other than existing. They are disregarded as being last on the social pyramid by the police, schools, and employers.
