Beautiful, breathtaking and inviting were words that I thought as I saw Hofstra University for the first time. As we drove my brother to Hofstra for his first day of classes to show him the road in which he would be driving on everyday to arrive at his second home for the next four years, I could not stop staring. At the first sight of Hofstra, I knew my brother would be in good hands and I had no doubt that he would do great things. My love for Hofstra developed in fall of 2008 when I was only nine years old. Fast forward and over eight years later and my love for Hofstra still hasn’t faded. I am applying to Hofstra because the atmosphere brings me to a place where I feel comfortable, welcome and at home. I am interested in studying early
It feels like everyday I meet people who ask me what college I want to attend. I give them the usual list of colleges I wish to apply to, but when Hofstra University comes up, people ask me, “why do you want to apply to Hofstra University?” I say there are infinite reasons why I wish to go to Hofstra. The number one reason being that it is really close to home. Hofstra is an excellent school - one of the best schools in New York. Hofstra has over a 100 distinct majors and minors to choose from ranging from Biology to Engineering to American Studies. I plan to major in Biology, and Hofstra is the best for my major because it has resources to offer its students giving them hands on experiences. Being an AP student, I love to take arduous classes
Out of all of the skin care products in the world, your bathroom cabinet needs to be filled with products researched and designed by me. When I entered high school, I discovered my passion for selecting lip sticks, lip glosses, lotions, perfumes, and makeup foundations. You name it. After learning about the connections between the information in my chemistry class and these items, a light bulb went off! I maintained an A average in chemistry throughout the whole year! Additionally, in 2014, I became a student in the Academy of Engineering and Technology, which also heightened my interests in chemistry. In a science fair at that academy, there was a chemistry course where we made colorful slime, and during that process, I learned that I get an adrenaline rush when I am mixing different chemicals together to see what the outcome is. Majoring in chemistry at Norfolk State University will definitely prepare me for a very successful future in chemistry! My ultimate goal is to conduct research and development for chemical cosmetics. I plan to obtain employment at the greatest companies in the world such as L'Oréal and Avon.
“CLANG!” The cell door slammed open, snapping me from my dazed state. Two years ago, I was intoxicated to the point that I fell asleep on the basketball courts adjacent to my apartment, was arrested, and in the process of that arrest, ignored the lawful requests of the arresting officers. That night and the following morning I found myself alone in a cell with nothing but thoughts of incredulity, self-disappointment, and regret running through my mind as my future at Clemson University remained in question. In the morning, as I was being processed, one key idea, like a lighthouse’s beacon, flashed through my mind; that I was solely responsible for my decisions and the consequences they wrought. This is a fact of life that we are all taught from birth, but it was one I never fully appreciated until there were real-world consequences. That realization,
Everyone has a dream or something they want to follow in life. Some want material gain while others want to help as many people as they can. I’m not saying wanting material gain is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that for me, money is not the number one concern when my dream is to help others. My hunger to help others only grows by the day. Because of what’s going on in the world we live in today, I believe that it is important that those who are less fortunate than others have the assistance they need to get to an even playing field, health-wise, with others.
I am applying to Hofstra because I believe that the university can help me achieve my goals. From the time I was a young child, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. While there is a long and difficult road ahead of me, I am sure that attending Hofstra University will help me go down that road.
During high school, I struggled to maintain my grades and focus. I was in a small town, and every ounce of opportunity seemed to slowly be sucked away from the town as the years past with the aid of the downward economic spiral beginning. I felt, like many of my fellow classmates, that opportunity had passed us by. I didn’t dare conjure even the thought of attending Eastern; it would’ve been too similar to the
Witnessing blood slowly running down the face of a woman who had been in a car accident and blood gushing out of her lower abdomen as a ten year old was unlike anything I had ever seen. The chaotic scenes and the rush of providing help immediately really fascinates me. I knew ages ago exactly what I was passionate about. The only thing left to do was to experience and apply what I learned in order to become better at what I wanted to do. Hands on experience can influence young adults to do more in the community and reach beyond their abilities.
Writing Assignment Hampton University became my school of choice for multiple reasons. During my elementary days my sisters attended Hampton University and as I was deciding on schools I recalled back to those days. I remembered coming to visit her, seeing the aged college campus, experiencing others school spirit, and just listening to her talk about how much she enjoyed it. I knew that I wanted that for myself, and how cool would it be to start a legacy. My sister’s previous attendance at the school and her constant bantering about it played a big role in my decision to attend but it wasn’t the deciding factor.
Who we are is a concoction of our life journey, relationships, tastes, goals, and countless other things. I am a family girl from Mexico who is a first generation college student. My family is the greatest part of who I am. They would give and do anything for me and vice versa. Life has brought me to the construction science program at Texas A&M and I could not be more excited to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Virginia Tech has been the home for both my brothers through their mechanical engineer degree and their transformation into responsible and hardworking young adults. I am the third of my family to attend Virginia Tech and even before I was accepted the campus already felt like a second home to me. I know the campus extremely well due to the many visits made and the rural location is quite calming and therapeutic when overwhelmed with stress. The distance from my home puts my mind at ease due to the fact that I always have an opportunity to return home if any major problems arise at home. The entire environment given to me by attending Virginia Tech allows a tranquil learning experience where I will be able to complete my short term goal of rapidly adapting to college life and focus on pursuing my chosen major.
In ten years, perhaps I am well on my way to becoming a general manager (GM) of a professional sports team; my dream job. I am counting on my Fort Hays Statue University (FHSU) undergraduate experiences with mentors, hands on learning, and career planning to assist me in shaping that vision or to help me create a new one.
For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a forensic scientist and going to the University of Nevada, Reno has also been a goal of mine ever since I started thinking about college. In fact, it is the only school I applied to. Coming from a small school we don’t really have a lot of learning opportunities in this field. But because our teachers and staff have a very positive attitude they try and give us the most support and opportunities they can. I’ve taken at least one science class each year to help prepare me for college, specifically biology and chemistry. Besides our basic science courses the one thing we do have is HOSA. HOSA is a state and national level organization for student interested in the medical field and related sciences. I’ve been a member of HOSA for two
I'm applying to Hofstra because of everything the school has to offer; location, opportunity, diversity, and a vast variety of degrees and programs. Having NYC right next door and the Hofstra shuttle and the LIRR conveniently near campus will open opportunities for me where no other school I am applying to can. Being a suburban Florida girl it has always been my dream to attend school in New York, Hofstra has a beautiful campus and I am looking forward to making New York my next home. Hofstra offers a great pre-med program and I am looking forward to going into pre-dental, the research opportunities available are very appealing since Hofstra values student research projects. I look forward to taking advantage of the study aboard program in
My experiences as a student at UC Berkeley have prepared me for success in Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s intense accelerated program. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley I persisted through semesters of full course loads while volunteering in two labs on campus and working late shifts as a barista. Although my lunch breaks at work usually consisted of a rushed croissant with my head in the books, I will never forget those days because they taught me to thrive in stressful situations. Despite the heavy workload and time commitment I earned a 3.65 GPA and never fell behind in my research assignments or coursework. My dedication to learning, a positive attitude, organizational ability and time management contributed to my success as
In researching the Villanova Masters in Finance program I spoke with past students, read a number of opinions on a variety of websites and researched where Villanova alumni come from and go of to once they graduate. Something that I came across that was also very interesting was what definesa “Type V” personality. I found this to be telling of the personality traits that are found among Villanova students. Two of these traits (Ambition and Intellectual Curiosity) are things that I find in myself and that would be important in this program and amongst my classmates.
