I must say I struggled with the idea of going back to college. I am 34 years old. What in the world was I thinking? College, now? How old will I be when I graduate? Well I went against my thoughts and self doubt and went for it. I am enrolled in college, community college, but it’s a start. Hopefully it will be amazing and will lead me to success. I am currently in my first quarter. I have a long way to go, but I am going to get there, no matter what.
Some people question the idea of spending so much money on college and say it’s not worth it. Some people are extremely successful, great career, make lots of money and have no degree. I would love to follow in their footsteps, but I missed that boat. I, however, have no degree and have not reached
With America growing at the rate it is, it is very important to grow with it. College is the best way to prepare someone to be out in the workforce and survive. Going to college is not essential for success, but it will give someone the extra skills that will help them in their career and in life. College helps people get a good job, prepares them for adult life, and will help them make more money.
Did you know that getting a college degree can financially destroy your future and put you deep in debt for many years? Not going to college can literally give you a brighter future than going in the first place. Also, most college’s cost way too much and people have to get thousands and thousands of dollars’ worth of loans just to get their bachelor’s degree. Many of the people that just get their diploma have become very successful in life, in some cases even more successful than people with their degrees.
Going back to college was a huge decision for me. I was nervous about what classes were to come and how hard they may be. I had to decide to take the high road and better my future for my family. Juggling work, school, and being a single mom of a two-year old has been tough, but I have enjoyed learning to reach my ultimate goal of graduation.
I made the decision to go back to school for many different reasons. I saw it as an opportunity to continue my education, potentially make more money in my career and prove to myself that I could accomplish this goal. Even after, placing this personal goal on hold for the past ten years, having three children and working. I knew this would definitely help me in the long run. It has always been dream of mine to graduate from college. To do what only two of my family members before me have done. Growing up in Compton, California. College wasn't an option for most, however I was fortunate enough to have parents who believed in me and my sisters and really pushed us to continue to further our education. I believe moving forward if I stay persistent
When most teens getting ready to go off to college think of getting away from home, but
Coming to college is a monumental thing for me and having the opportunity to go to the College of Design is equally as big and frightening. I am excited and ready to start the school year and to learn all that I can during my studio classes but I am worried about the time commitment it entails. I see this as a challenge though. A challenge I’m willing to go through. I would say this is my biggest concern about the College of Design but not my only one. I have seen examples of older student’s work and seen how they have improved tremendously and although that fills me with awe and ease, I still feel a sense of worry because it takes me a small amount of time to pick up new methods of learning.
I decided to go to College when I was about 23 years old. I did well in college. My college classes focused me to have to come out of
Going to college was always an important aspect to me. Coming from a home where the highest level of education was a GED, making something of myself has been a substantial goal that I’ve always yearned. When I was in the 8th grade, I was determined to become a veterinarian. It’s become somewhat apart of who I am. Going to college means that I’m one step closer to progressing to my goal. My goal to actually make something of myself that no one thought I could legitimately achieve.
In 8th grade, I was told I would be moving to a new country, so my parents could start their new careers of being missionaries. At first, I was so happy and excited for this new adventure. However, after I entered high school I did not want to leave, I wanted to be involved with my school and in activities. The decision my parents made really affected my life, I became very angry with them and started to do things I normally wouldn’t do, like self-harm. Before entering my junior year of high school my family and I moved to Costa Rica. Instead of being angry and having self-pity, I decided to be optimistic and think of the experience as a grand adventure that no one else gets encounter. I left my friends and family and the life I’ve known since
The most significant challenges I may face when transitioning from high school to college are time management, workload amount, and responsibility. Since elementary school to high school, we are given school days with a given structure on our schedule. Once we transition to college, our schedule changes with more flexibility and freedom to decide what our time will consist of. This may be a challenge because it’s a drastic change I must adapt to. I will ensure that I am effectively managing my time to align my classes with other obligations. I will use any time gaps efficiently in the form of studying and preparing for upcoming classes. Another challenge I may face when making that transition to college is the academic workload. In college,
I had to always move to different schools because people always use to bully me. The first school I can remember going to was called Golden Glades Elementary in Opa locka, Florida. The reason why moved there was because every time I would cry, and yell at people because of people always calling names and being rude to me, the principal wouldn’t help even though I always told him about the bullying he just didn’t seem to care. Then all of sudden when I told him I was moving to a different school he pretended like he was actually sad to see me gone when in reality I can tell he was happy to see me gone.
Personally, going to university as always been a dream of mine. Altough I have yet to start, I know of the benefits it offers and I cannot wait to begin. Higher learning has the potential for someone to have a career they truly enjoy and be inspired to find work in their respective fields of studies, wheter it be a new career or enhancing the one they already have. Also, it opens more door and many different options you never knew even existed. Specific university classes will teach you how to look for work in a professional manner, setting the foundation for lifelong skills dedicated to gaining employment and creating a sense of empowerment. Going to university creates the opportunity to gain full-time employment.
In my senior year of high school, my goals were getting offers from colleges and getting “5”s in my AP tests. For the most of the time, all I need to do is to follow the instructions from my college counselors and teachers. So it was not very hard for me to reach my goals with their help. I did not need to make a lot decisions by myself except choosing which colleges I want to apply.
I know that college will be challenging for me because of children, transportation and time management. First, transportation is difficult because I have to ride the HRT bus back and forth to school, and sometimes the bus never be on time .depends on where you live is how long you be on the bus. Therefore, transportation will be a big issue for me until I can afford a car. Next, having children is another challenge for me because I have to make sure my two children get off to school and daycare before I can even get on the bus to go to school. I have to take them to doctor appointments, school meeting, and other many appointments. I never know what is going to happen to my children while I am away. I have to be alert at all times. Finally,
What similarities and differences can be identified between college and Highschool? Similarities and differences between the two institutions can be observed through the amount of class work, interactions between the student and faculty, social interactions, and the amount of time in class.
