Film Analysis of Saving Private Ryan and It's Depiction
The D-Day landings were a significant event in history, so significant that two films have been made about it. The first one is The Longest Day directed by Darryl Zanuck in the 1960s and the second one is Saving Private Ryan directed by Steven Spielberg in the 1990s. AS these films were made in different decades the audiences expectations and tolerances of films differ considerably. The aim of Spielberg was to shock audiences from the very beginning of the film whereas the D-Day landings don’t feature until an hour into the film, The Longest Day is more informative than Saving Private Ryan as it features actual news reel and documentary.

The character of Captain Miller is played by Tom Hanks and part way through the confusion it seems as though Miller is observing everything instead of taking part in fighting for his country, it’s as if he has been temporarily deafened, some terror is seen in Miller’s eyes when he picks up his helmet and puts it on his head and the bloodied water streams down his face. This shows that already there are wounded and deceased soldiers. Hanks’ make up has purposely been made to make him look pale and scared of the surroundings he is in. Miller is then brought back from his deafness to reality when a young soldier asks what should he do.
With war there are injuries and death, but in quite a few clips of the film the injured are carrying on with their orders and trying not to worry about their wound, the only soldiers who aren’t fighting are those who were killed. There are several shock scenes in this film; one of them being that the surviving soldiers take the weapons and ammunition from the recently deceased, this is shocking to general people because we don’t know
Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 movie directed by Steven Spielberg about World War II Invasion of Normandy. This film, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won many other awards among the cast, picture, and so forth. Spielberg did a great job on getting a lot of things correct to what happened in real life. Although, the movie isn’t entirely correct with certain scenes and topics.
The film The War Room is a documentary about Bill Clinton that has very little to do with Bill Clinton himself. The primary focus of the film is devoted to the team of campaign strategists that got Clinton to the presidency. The two main players the film focuses on are James Carville--the Lead Strategist for the Clinton campaign and George Stephanopoulos the Communications Director. The film follows them and their team of campaign strategists and experts as they try to get Arkansas Governor, Bill Clinton, to the presidency. The documentary highlights many key moments in Clinton’s campaign, for example the Gennifer Flowers scandal. However, the film showcases what was happening behind closed doors in the War Room, where Clinton’s
I think that the movie “The Patriot” was somewhat historically accurate. I think that it was somewhat historically accurate because of Benjamin Martin, Colonel Tavington, and the Battle of Cowpens. Also because some things that were demonstrated in the movie; are true facts. Some things that happened in the movie are not, some things are fabricated by the producers of the movie. So the movie cannot be completely historically inaccurate, and the movie cannot be completely historically accurate. So I think that “The Patriot” was somewhat historically accurate.
Trainspotting presents an ostensible image of fractured society. The 1996 film opens, famously, with a series of postulated choicesvariables, essentially, in the delineation of identity and opposition. Significant here is the tone in which these options are deliveredit might be considered the rhetorical voice of society, a playful exposition of the pressure placed on individuals to make the "correct" choices, to conform to expectation.
The federal government placed many restrictions and discriminatory actions on the black troops. At the beginning of the Civil War, African Americans were not allowed to serve in the U.S. military. By the summer of 1862 it was clear that additional troops were needed. To meet the need, Congress passed two bills that allowed the participation of black soldiers in the Union Army. The Government established segregated units called The Bureau of Colored Troops. The measure lacked popular support and the U.S. Army did not begin recruiting black soldiers until 1863.
The Patriot. A person who is willing to fight for their country against enemies. The Patriot begins in the year 1776 in the colony of South Carolina. Mel Gibson plays a planation farmer who fought in the French-Indian war named Benjamin Martin. A War was about to begin and Benjamin wanted no share partaking in the soon-to-be American Revolutionary War. He was more concerned about his two eldest sons who wanted to fight under General George Washington. The beginning of the movie starts out with Benjamin Martin peacefully living with his kids whom no longer have a living mother. Benjamin’s oldest son, Gabriel, joins the war without permission from his father. As the rest of the family are at home one afternoon, Colonel William Travington burns the Martin Plantation to the ground and his second oldest son was killed immediately for interrupting Travington’s plan. Benjamin finds a way to seek revenge because of the rage he experiences after his family is hurt. He begins to realize that he needs to fight for his children and he will not do it alone. Both Benjamin and his oldest son, Gabriel, decide to join the militia as a way of showing what they are capable of. Throughout the film, Benjamin Martin becomes a soldier whom others respect and admire. He shows the militia what it means to truly care for not only his men, but also for his family. As the film progresses, a turn of events take place that show Benjamin’s continued want of revenge against General Charles Cornwallis. The Continentals and the militia soon commence the battle at Cowpens. This is when Benjamin Martin meets his enemy, Travington, who murdered his two eldest sons. After a drawn-out battle, Benjamin stabs Travington in the neck and kills him for the sake of his children. It is then that General Cornwallis retreats his forces and the rest celebrate. Even though some portions of The Patriot aren’t as accurate as we perceive, it is a film full of war and despair, but also a film that contributes to the importance of dignity and the love for one’s family.
In the early 1900’s silent films amazed audiences with images, later talkies impressed with sound, today we have 3D. As technology continues to evolve so too will film genres. Genres, while having some shared characteristics, also differ in terms of stylistic devices used. For instance, the dramatic film “The Notebook” effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the two main protagonists.
All Quiet on the Western Front was never written to be like the movies we watch today. When people go to see a movie about war, they typically expect watch a story jam packed with action from start to finish. All Quiet on the Western Front, also has this kind of battle from beginning to end, but was never intended to tell the common sci-fi adventure of which it could be associated to. It is made to speak against the terrible conditions which men had to face in world war won. The movie shows us, that even though there were so many casualties in the aftermath of World War One, there are some things in the world worse than death. The opening of the movie tells how the film is not an accusation, a confession, or an adventure, and the
In the short film, “The Negro Soldier,” the whole focus was to get African Americans to join the military. With the use of propaganda, the U.S. government hoped to promote getting African Americans to want to fight for their country. It hoped to instill patriotism in them. It showed that Germany and the Nazis had no respect for them and considered them the scum of the earth. It also portrayed them being accepted as equals into the American society. It was used to make them think they were wanted and play a major role in the success of the war against germany. And to ultimately make Germany and the Nazis look like the bad guys (destroying their monuments) instead of the racist America they lived in. It also portrayed African American soldiers prior contributions in previously fought wars as pivotal moments in American history. It made it seem like they were the reason for those victories. It also explained how the African American soldiers were honored with tributes, memorials, medals and parades for their service in the military. In the ongoing WWII, it was said that there were three times the number of African Americans soldiers in WWII than in WWI. Also, many more were getting commissioned and attending West Point and OCS (Officer Candidate School). African American men that were once printers, tailors, entertainers are now soldiers in the Army as gunners, tankers, radio operators, mechanics, quartermasters, and infantrymen. They were now the backbone of
The movie begins with Simon Srebnik going back to Chelmno, he is one of the two survivors. He was taken to Chelmno when he was thirteen, his father was killed in front of him, and his mother died in the gas vans. He was known throughout the camp for his agility and his beautiful singing voice. Before abandoning the camp the Nazis shot everyone, including him, in the head. He was left for dead, but was found and survived. Simon went back to tell of the experience he had. He cannot believe what happened as he walks along what is left of the frame of the buildings. He said that 2,000 were burnt per day, but he remembers the camp as being peaceful. No one ever shouted, they just went about their work. He was forced to go up the river, under

“I do not hold the equality in all things only with equality before the law,” said by actor Thomas Lee Jones, acted as Republican US Congressman Thaddeus Stevens in the movie Lincoln. This movie, relives President Abraham Lincoln’s last four months in office during the fourth year in the American Civil War (1861-1865). In the last four months in office, Lincoln contributed good for the American society, drastically ruined the human condition in terms of the unified Confederate states, and put an artistic genius at work whom realistically wants us to remember him as man less than a monument.
