I am writing this because it is probably the only time in all of my academic writing where I felt I could just be honest. My writing process is simple, extreme procrastination, free writing and then aligning the paragraphs that may make sense together. When I write I mainly just read over the prompt and just type until something happens I often write two or three different passages on the same topic and take whichever bits and pieces that seem good, that is not the best way because sometimes I confuse myself and when reading through will read what I wrote as if it was still in its unedited condition. Most of the time I will wait until the day before to start writing especially if the topic is something dumb like “write about your writing experiences”
In reviewing the essay, there are many errors I noticed. Overall, your writing lacks focus in regards to ideas, grammar, and spelling. I am no expert in any of these areas, but my ability to produce a coherent essay is demonstrated by the fact that I am nearly done with college. The goal of my essay is to guide you towards a better way of writing based on my prior experiences. A good essay in my experience is one that has three major components: structure, depth, and voice.
Writing is a skill that many authors use to show their style or qualities. Writing is such a great experience and it allows you to tell stories, or speak your opinions. It gives you opportunities to speak up and show your worth. There is two important steps for writing, one is to always think positive, and two is always believe in what you have to say. Many people struggle with writing at times and that's because they haven't thought out their ideas all the way or showed their full potential yet. It takes time to become a good writer.
Those that write always have a writing process whether they know it or not. A writing process can be defined by the way an individual gears up for the project at hand. It can be as simple as finding a favorite chair to write in or the act of planning out the writing beforehand. My own personal writing process varies from task to task with a few constants. I generally start my writing process by first reconciling my project; figuring out the best way to express the needs of the work. I do not write down notes or an outline in regards to the project mostly relying on winging it so as not to get hung up on sticking to the outline. I will my best to knock out large chunks of the project before taking any breaks unless I hit a wall, and
Over the past four months, I have made great strides as a writer. The area where I have seen the most growth is in my use of the writing process. Prior to my enrollment in this course, I would sit down and write all my papers in one sitting. This class has taught me how to lay out a plan for my papers. I have learned how to effectively brainstorm/research, draft, and revise my writings before I complete them. Also I have learned to not just stop there, instead I am now going back and reflecting on my work after I complete it. This allows me to identify where I prospered and also where my downfalls may have been. With this information, I am able to apply this to future writings of mine; lessons that will stay with me forever.
After writing these few essays, I understand that there are multiple ways I could have improved when in the process of writing. For example, I could have used more quotes to help solidify my writing and support some of my arguments more, I also could have brought in my experiences with history within school and maybe what I was taught about the Cold War, and lastly I think I could explain some of the major leaders better when using for my argument. Having prior knowledge about this topic would probably be the best way to prepare to revise these several essays that I have written.
Students are assigned a variety of writing tasks throughout college. Whether it is an assignment in an orientation class or a term paper, students will need to include information from scholarly peers to help prove their point and make a credible stance. Thankfully students can include data from scholarly articles as long as they give proper credit to the author(s) from whom they received the information. Among the many issues that a student could potentially face is overusing resources. By not including enough of their thought on a subject, the work could become a collage of other writer’s work that a student merely puts his name on. To help avoid such an issue, one must remember that no more than 15% percent of a paper should include quotes
Throughout all four years of high school, the “meaning” of a race and all its components were described to me in great detail. My coach found that a three mile cross country race could apply to almost anything. He would analyze races by separating each mile. The first mile is run with one’s legs, the second with their brain, and the third with their heart. I never fully understood how the versatility of the science of a race. Immediately when thinking about how to explain my writing process and how I could reflect on this past semester while also encompassing the theme of love, the three mile cross country race that had been engrained in my brain came to mind.
My writing process in the past wasn't up to my expectations. In my past previous school years , we never had to write lengthy papers. Almost all of my papers were an analysis or a compare and contrast paper. Those papers bore me. I think if I written more free write things, my writing would be more advanced. I never remember my past papers being a struggle to write. The topic was always easy to find details and facts. However, I have forgotten a lot of the grammar rules due to lack of usage. Now looking back at my previous papers, I wish they had been more advanced and open free write. Looking back , I think high school should have prepared me more for the college level, but it didn't. I wish writing papers had progressively gotten harder to prepare me for the college level in writing.
“Hey, you! Pay attention!” A common statement I tell myself anytime I try to write a paper. Procrastination is a large portion of my writing process. I believe my best work is produced when I’m in a time crunch. The stress of time running out just makes the thoughts flow like a river of words.
In my current profession as a registered Family Day Care Educator I was initially unsure in having my writing assessed by an online tool; however, I became somewhat relieved when my first attempt was labelled “lean”. Writer’s Diet (http://www.writersdiet.com/WT.php) diagnostic tool however did not give me a clear reflection on my writing as it placed an ‘incorrect line,’ through all dates, page numbers within my in text referencing. Researching the errors through the textbook and websites such as Paper Rater (http://www.paperrater.com/) I was able to closely inspect my writing and make recommended changes. Later attempts to achieve improvement in grammar, sentence beginnings and usage of the passive voice when writing, it was adamant my writing was more academic and clearer than my first attempt.
I would have to consider my writing process to be similar to being a beginner baker. Although I have had numerous English classes throughout my educational career, I do not, however, believe that I have had the guidance to help me to excel in the area of writing. It was not until my senior year that I was lucky to have an English teacher who deeply cared for his students. I learned and wrote more in my senior year English class than all of my other years combined. That is why I consider myself to be a beginner.
“I am not by any means a competent writer.” This was the first sentence in my introduction for my first journal assignment. However, over the last eight weeks in this course, I have proven this statement false. I now realize, that I have always been a competent writer, but I was not a confident one. Therein was the problem, my confidence level. This issue caused me to struggle and question everything in the writing process, from grammar to thesis statements. The mere idea of writing an essay sent my heart racing. But it was either write the essays or fail the course and failing simply was not an option. So, how has my writing process changed over the last eight weeks? In large part it hasn’t, my writing process has remained the same, but as
Metacognition is the act of thinking about one’s own thought process. My perspective towards writing has without a doubt evolved over the past years of my life. Writing has never really been bothersome for me throughout my life and I believe that I’m an average writer. The best part about writing is there’s always room and opportunities to improve and grow. By analyzing and reviewing others work through their perspective, it has helped me see writing through a more passionate, and meaningful lens. There’s so much that goes into what makes writing what it is. Writing extends far beyond just an introduction paragraph and body paragraphs. Writing is conceptual and the writer needs to be conscious of the audience in which they’re addressing in order to determine the purpose of the content that will be written.
Writing process is long road and sometimes it is difficulty. The most challenging aspect of creating this genre piece was the use of sources through in-text citations. I did not want to make the same mistake so it took long time to correct my mistakes. What I have learned about myself as a writer is that I should not the lack of confidence to guide me through my writing. The confidence is powerful tool for any writer. The thing which I would might done differently if I had more time was to do more research on my topic. There were no weakest area of my writing. The strongest writing in my composer’s Statement is the solution of water scarcity. I would give myself an A for the Composer’s Statement because I know I met ten standards of mastery.
Writing a paper can be difficult, there are so many components that go into the process that can be the difference between an average or above average paper. When given an assignment to construct a clear and concise paper one many be intimidated; especially when the factor that a grade will be given enters the picture. I have found that a paper takes a lot of work, through the beginning stages to the middles infamous writers block, and finally to the final draft; where you think to yourself that you stressed too much. Although everyone works differently this method has served me the best; first to begin a thinking map, then write a rough draft, and finally to make corrections and form the final draft. This may seem like the
