Introduction

The following report will discuss the specific needs of the older person. It will explore Dementia in the older person in relation to their physiological and psychological states and also their needs. The role of the carer and the multidisciplinary team will be discussed and the approaches towards quality services. The sources used for this assignment includes books, journals and online websites.

The HA is accountable and responsible for their own actions - they must work in the manner they were trained, report and work under supervision of a registered nurse, carry out tasks, have respect for the individual and ensure safe practices and report any accident or incident. It is important to try for a perfect day, enjoying everyday no matter what stage the individual is at with dementia so it’s important to discuss the individual’s interests and lifelong hobbies. It is also important to engage them in meaningful activities and programs to simulate them. This is more important for those who have lost their ability to clearly express their needs, wants and desires. Person centred care should be combined into all aspects of care regardless of the individual’s condition or stage of disease. HA should get to know the individual’s condition or stage of disease, the individual themselves, their tastes and how to make them feel comfortable when doing personal hygiene (toileting, bathing, dressing, and oral health) food likes and dislikes, their physical activity leisure, mental experiences and satisfying social activities and
