As a young man growing up in Hamilton, Ohio I always admired my uncle who served as a law enforcement officer that influenced me for my career choice. These rights directly impact the supervision and evaluation of employees. A topic I find extremely engaging is that of the Criminal Justice field. The technology that has been developed over the years to solve cases is extremely interesting and sometimes it is hard to believe how new some of the technology really is. Take Gel Electrophoresis for example. Gel Electrophoresis uses electricity to separate out different DNA fragments by their size as they move through a gel matrix and was created in the 1970s. Gel Electrophoresis allows for investigators to take DNA from a crime scene and to process it to get a simplistic visualization of the DNA collected which they can then compare to the DNA samples of the different suspects. As we started to explore different careers in Criminal Justice, what questions came to mind either about the area you are interested in or different areas?

The criminal justice career fair on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 was an event at the Hendrix Student Center on Clemson University’s main campus from 12 pm to 4 pm. This event was ground breaking for Clemson because it was the first ever career fair for criminal justice in its history. It was designed for Clemson students interested in criminal justice, law, and social service careers to explore potential career opportunities with various law enforcement agencies or to possibly attend one of the law schools present. The agencies that were there were diverse and included local, state, and federal levels. The criminal justice field is in place to not only hold those accountable for their actions but also to try and prevent further criminal activity from happening. One of the best ways to do so is to collect data and statistics on criminal activity across the nation. By collecting this data we can better know when and where crimes are happening and try to provide a solution to stopping them. However, people bring into question the accuracy and usefulness of crime statistics as they merely reflect the views of the policy makers. Two sources that collect and publish crime data and statistics are the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program, and the National Crime Victim Survey (NCVS).

During chapter 1 of, Basics of Research Methods for Criminal Justice & Criminology, I learned many things related to research. To be considered a good consumer of research, an individual should be knowledgeable about how the research was conducted and how the studies can relate to a person’s department. A good consumer of research in the CJ field would be when a person is able to take past research and understand how it directly relates to policing. An example of this would be if a police officer studied the book, Ethical Dilemmas and Decisions in Criminal Justice, to further their knowledge on ethics in policing. It is important to do this because then that police officer will be more knowledgeable in their field in an ethical standpoint

I’m a business arts student and should graduate soon if I stay on schedule. This is my first criminal justice class at HCCS. I’ve signed up for a total of (3) online CRIJ classes for this semester. My plan/goal is to dig a little deeper into both, criminal justice and healthcare. My current career is in the oil and gas industry, where I’ve been working for 10 years. As we all know this field is quite unstable and rocky at the moment, thus I’m looking to transition into another industry after college. I hope everyone had a peaceful and interesting summer. I have 2 beautiful daughters, who I’m glad to send off back to school and save on the groceries and utilities. My life shifted this summer, I got married!

According to one recent study, around 5% of the GDP goes on crime control. In spite of these measures, the crime in the last few years has increased. A number of studies have indicated that crime prevention can considerably cut down on offences as well as costs. High-tech crimes are a new kind of white-collar crimes that can be one single event or constant and usually involve the theft of information, resources, or funds. Organization is very important to any establishment, professional or otherwise. Organization is what keeps things running smoothly and proficiently, so that the main job, in this case law enforcement, can be accomplished without the added hassle and confusion that being unorganized always inevitably brings.
