I needed to fill up my schedule and for the 2nd year in a row I tried to sign up for the coaching and sports class. However, for the 2nd year in a row, I wasn’t able to get into the coaching and sports class. The counselor randomly assigned me to creative writing. I didn’t pick creative writing because I was in the honor’s English class, and I knew I would be doing enough writing in that class alone. I entered your classroom with a high school attitude of thinking I was too good for where I was at. My attitude was that this class would be a blow off and that I could breeze through this semester. I was wrong, but it turned out to be in the best way. I’ve had you as an English teacher before, but in creative writing you provided me with freedom. …show more content…
I finally had a choice. I could write about anything that I wanted too, and all the stories were mine. I wasn’t writing to a rubric, but for myself. I think creative writing was one of my best classes. I think all students should have the opportunity to have you as a creative writing teacher. You helped me advance my writing skills and develop my own writing style. Any student would benefit from having you as a creative writing teacher. Creative writing courses allow students to develop themselves as writers. This class was more than just a writing course. It allows students to find themselves through writing. I felt like I learned how to be a writer. I know that now I will always be a writer. You have taught me the importance of being able to express yourself through writing, and every student should have a chance to learn
Throughout the progression of this course I learned countless things concerning my writing. {Simkin, M. G., Crews, J. M., & Groves, M. J. (2012). While it’s there’s a many amounts of things ‘ve learned throughout the course, there are several things I‘ve learned which include the step by step process, including the correct usage of grammar and properly proofreading my work before I turn it in. I found out i had a major problem with my punctuation usage and insufficient when it came my periods and commas. I’ve invested some time writing through grammarly and other helpful sites to improve my writing skills. I appreciate the assistance and help I received from Mrs. C
There comes a time in life where we see an impossible obstacle, and do the best that we can to overcome it. For me, this was my AP English Language class in high school during senior year. The time was now, summer is nearly over. I analyzed my strengths and weaknesses, giving a full re-evaluation of myself. In the end, I consider myself an average writer. There have been times in the past when I’ve written letters or personal stories. However, those have never been my strongest set of skills. While I have been serious with my writing, I never recognized the unbelievable advantages that good writing has. Therefore, I’ve made it my goal to improve my literal skills and become a great writer. Maybe this new class will assist me in becoming that
I am tearing my hair to squeeze every single word from my poor mind to finish this letter. Yet deep in my frontal cortex, there is no part of mechanisms that is designed for writing a self-analyzing letter to my instructors. However, it has been ten weeks I studied in this course, and all my favorite works in these ten weeks are gathering in this tiny portfolio. I have wrote a several rhetorical practices that taught me basic rules of rhetorical essays. I have wrote a rhetorical analysis, which explained both the thesis of the reading and my own arguments against the reading. I finished my last rhetorical project three days ago with telling another interesting story. All these assignments were tiny pieces of my writing style and they built up together to present me a general concept of being a successful writer. I learned that, and I made a number of changes to upgrade my writing skills. At last, I decide to offer you these changes I have made as a start-up story writer in the college.
Throughout the course of freshmen year I have developed different skills and opinions on writing. I feel I have created a more mature style of writing and a better understanding of literature. I have changed my view of writing over this semester and acquired a strong liking for it. The importance of writing has become more visible throughout the past few months. Writing is crucial in many aspects of a person’s life. I have grown to be a more powerful and well built writer throughout this course.
I grew up in a extremely small town outside of Birmingham, and the high school I went to is not known for its academia. If I recall right, my high school english classes assigned only 1-2 papers a year, so writing 4-5 in a semester was a completely new adventure for me. I learned many things in this course that greatly helped me improve my writing. My writing overall improved in style, flow, and basic fundamental writing thought processes, which is all the areas that are hard to learn. I started to see my style and flow had grown bland and very fact based instead of grabbing the attention of the readers. Now that I understand where my writing needs improvement, I can start focusing on those areas and fixing my papers.
When this semester first started I did not enjoy writing, the process, the grading, and just writing itself. I did not consider myself a good writer, but I knew that I was decent. Most of my papers were decent and I received average and above average grades on them. Even though I received good grades I still did not find myself a good writer. When entering this class, WRTG 120, I was afraid that it would be my hardest class and that I would have a hard time. In other words I was scared, and hearing the writing outcomes for this course did not help. I have heard of most of the outcomes but being able to write using them in writing I knew was going to be hard. In this paper I am going to talk about how I used the five out comes
As this semester comes to a close, I have become to realize how much I’ve grown as a writer. After taking this class, I have noticed that I have gained more and more of a voice in my writing. When faced with having to write about subjective topics, I have learned how to voice my opinions in papers in order to make them more effective. My writing has greatly evolved because of this class. Not only has it shown me I have to work on sentence variety, but it has also allowed me to work on word choice which is something I have always struggled with throughout my high school career. Struggling with how to put things into words as exactly how I see them has been a struggle for me throughout this course. Despite how much I’ve grown as writer, I have
This year is the final year of my career as a Tennessee school student. This is my senior year at Mount Juliet High School, and the only thing that’s different from the other years is one teacher, Ms. Best. I am a senior in her 4th block creative writing class and for once I’m being challenged. I have always been a good student, made all A’s, played soccer, played in the Orchestra, but I never had a challenge like the ones she places in front of me. Not only does she challenge me, but she works with me to change my writing for the better, because I’ve always secretly adored writing. I like to write short stories and tales of whimsy, and Ms. Best works to make those skills I harbor flourish onto the pages I write. I feel as if I’m the wild
This letter is meant to be a way for you to get to know me on a deeper level. You are probably using this letter not only to get to know the lives of the students you are teaching, but also to learn about the writing behaviors of your students. So for this purpose I will try to keep my letter short and interesting in order to not mess up. Before we begin I have a quick disclaimer, I am very sarcastic in everyday life so that does show in my informal writing. I am usually professional for most major papers, but for this paper you will probably see my sarcasm. Now that we have gotten that out of the way let’s start this letter.
Throughout middle school my classes were all the same, I showed up, learned, received my assignments, and left. There was one class that was different; it was my Language Arts class. The teacher’s name was Mrs. Lorentsen and she was not the average teacher. For example, in her class we rarely had lectures and I can remember vividly my adventures with her. We completed assignments that were called Independent Study Projects (ISPs), Common Place Books (CPBs), and completed 3D book reports. These are all different ways of presenting information through creativity and problem solving. These foreign type assignments seemed strange at first, as they are different from a traditional classroom setting. I quickly adjusted to her classroom, and learned that I enjoyed this style of learning. Throughout the class Mrs. Lorentsen and I both noticed a commonality in my writing. Putting my thoughts and opinions on paper became a struggle for me.
Through this creative writing class, I gained a newfound respect for writing. Writing had allowed me and continues to allow me to see the world through a different perspective; with this thought in mind, I decided I would no longer allow creative writing to be placed on the backburner in my life. When the outside world goes to shambles, I know I can turn to writing to help me make sense of what is happening and to escape life’s troubles even if only
Writing in your class has been appropriately challenging so far. I feel like I am being pushed further as a writer, improving my skills so one day I’ll be able to use them. It has not been extremely easy for me to write stuff for your class, as some of the assignments are harder for me than others.
Wow, where do I begin? When I first came into this class I assumed it was just another boring writing class that I just needed to walk away with an A in. Boy did I walk away with more. The main things I came away with were that writing is a way to express myself when I don’t have the voice to say it. Sometimes it's much easier to write my ideas on paper and later find the proper word choice to bring it all together. I became my biggest critic, whether it was about using the correct word choice or correcting my paper and realizing that my sentences weren’t flowing smoothly. Those are pretty big components to writing. So yes, I’d say this class changed my outlook on writing.
I believe that I have improved as a writer by taking this class. When I first started sixteen weeks ago I could barely put a paragraph together that made any sense at all. Now I have more confidence in what I have learned. To use these tools, make a paragraph that makes more sense. I now am able to write a simple essay with little to no problem at all with some and body of a research paper. You as my teacher have given me advice on how, to look at my essay and tear it apart and help me to rebuild it and see how I can improve it, and make it better. I learned to accept corrective criticism and use it for the better. I understand my classmates are trying to bring across in their argument. This in this classroom is what makes a person a better
Writing, I mean the process that we implant our ideas in; use certain skills to arrange them in a pursuable way and of course polish the words with our heart, differs from what I learned under a circumstance of passing a class or getting a good grade in a language test. I am not born in a circumstance that widely use English, and writing to me is a subject that I need to pass my English classes. I do not like to write things with limited topics and selected materials because that is lame and it does not involve many personal interests in it, I like to write things that can deliver my ideas and thoughts with materials that I interested in. I am not a good writer as I lack of understandings of English itself, I cannot find suitable words that
