According to the story on page 64,after Teddy’s family revived him from the flood, the narrator states,”…every well-brought-up mongoose always hopes to be house mongoose someday…” This reveals that Rikki-Tikki was motivated to become part of the family because ,as a house mongoose, he would be able to protect his family from predators such as cobras. He could also repay Teddy’s family for taking him in. Later in the story, when the cobras Nag and Nagaina plotted to kill the family, Rikki-Tikki was scared, but he knew that he needed to protect the family. The text on page 68 states,” As angry as he was, Rikki-Tikki was very frightened as he saw the size of the big cobra.” This demonstrates that he was motivated by his feelings of loyalty to the family, that he willingly put himself in danger to protect
Rikki Tikki is a brave character in this story. The text states,”That bite paralyzed Karait, and Rikki-tikki was just going to eat him up from the tail, after the custom of his family at dinner, when he remembered that a full meal makes a slow mongoose, and if he wanted all his strength and quickness ready, he must keep himself thin.”) (para #34). This quote shows that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi cares for the family that saved him and is willing to risk his life for them. Rikki-Tikki is a very caring animal that wants to repay that family by protecting them. Also,
Throughout all short stories, there can be multiple similarities, and differences. But, more specifically, the three stories, “Harrison Bergeron”, “Liberty”, and “The Most Dangerous Game” share(s) similarities and differences. There can be similarities and differences in setting, character, conflict, and theme.
In the story, "Rikki Tikki Tavi," a mongoose, Rikki Tikki Tavi, single-handedly fights with a cobra couple, while getting help from a group of new friends. One day, while he was in the wild, he was caught up with the flood, that washed him away from his burrow, away from his mother and father. An English family found him on the road, and decided to see if he was still alive. They brought him to their bungalow, so he could rest and stay in a comfortable place. Although, as mongooses are extremely curious, Rikki Tikki, decided to wander around the area, and found himself caught in a sticky situation.
Mongoose fight snakes, many snakes, but in this story, a little mongoose fights two King Cobras. Rikki Tikki, the little mongoose, defeats two King Cobras, Nag and Nagaina, that try to harm the family that is cared for by Rikki Tikki. Rikki Tikki was found by them because he was washed up by a storm and fell into a river. Both of these stories have an amazing perspective of a story. However, they are different to each other in some cases.
Rikki TIkki is a brave character in this story. In one example, Rikki Tikki had to fight Nag and Nagaina because they were planning to kill Teddy’s family (para 53). This displays how Rikki Tikki was brave and fought the cobras even though they were stronger than him. Since he was being brave he showed how having courage can give you greater self confidence. In addition, Rikki Tikki said, “All the cobras are dead; and if they weren't, I'm here”(para 104). This proves that Rikki Tikki was confident, and stood up against menacing cobras to protect his friends. His actions show that he has a lot of courage and believes in himself. All in all, Rikki Tikki is a brave mongoose in this story.
The animated and non-animated versions of Dr. Suess’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas can be compared to identify the similarities and differences of both films. The animated movie was produced in the 1960’s and is approximately thirty minutes long, while the non-animated movie was produced in the 2000’s and is about an hour and a half long. They both include the Grinch, an angry man that hates Christmas. Because of his hate for the holiday season, the Grinch plans to dress as Santa Claus and steal all of Whoville’s decorations and presents. Both of these versions of the film share similarities such as names of landmarks and characters, scripts, and story plots. However, these versions also have differences. These include the length of the
In the exposition, Rikki, a young mongoose in India, is saved by a family, who has a boy named Teddy, after he is washed away in a flood. The family begins to take care of Rikki since mongooses are instinctively inclined to kill snakes and there are many of them in India that pose a threat to children and even adults. In Rudyard Kipling’s story “Rikki-tikki-tavi” there are many quotes and much text evidence that characterizes Rikki-tikki as a very curious mongoose. One quote from the author that characterizes Rikki-tikki is “Teddy went to bed Rikki-tikki climbed up to; but he was a restless companion, because he had to get up and and attend to every noise all through the night, and find out what made it.” (Kipling 465) This quote written by the author characterizes Rikki-tikki as a curious mongoose. Throughout the night, Rikki had to see what made every noise, because he was eager to know and learn something new. Another quote the author writes to describe Rikki-tikki as a curious mongoose is “It is the hardest thing in the world to frighten a mongoose,
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is a book about a mongoose doing something good for a family not expecting something in return, but he does get something in return. The theme of this book is do something nice for someone and you might get something in return.
The children's story, Rikki Tikki Tavi is from the Jungle Books, Volume 2, by Rudyard Kipling. The story is about a mongoose that got washed up and was found by a little boy named Teddy. The little boy and his family had a garden where two cobras lived. Throughout the story Rikki Tikki Tavi tries to fight the cobras to keep them from hurting the people that live there. At certain times Rikki Tikki behaved in a manner toward other animals that was disrespectful and not like his normal character.
Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the world around them and mongoose are so curious that they rarely get frightened, as also explained in the Rikki-Tikki- Tavi story. People around the world might know that every mongoose has to fight a snake once in a lifetime since mongoose like to eat snakes. Although some mongooses like to eat insects, lizards, birds, and rodents. While others like the Indian mongoose like to eat snakes especially cobras. Mongoose is the name for 29 out of 34 species located in southern Eurasia and Africa. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the book, was created by Rudyard Kipling while the movie of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi has a different author. Although this noticeable difference
The children's literature that I read this week is called Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling. As a young adult, I wouldn't be so glad to find an injured mongoose on my property and then bring it inside my house to care for it. But I think because it is a childrens story then the author would want to encourage children to be kind and caring towards animal. The family found the mongoose and after treating it, allowed it to stay with the young boy. I can understand why the mother was concerned about it being around Teddy in the house because it might hurt him, but, the father felt that Teddy would actually be safer with the mongoose around him. That i found really strange. I understand that mongoose can protect him from snakes but I didn't think
When you read a story,no matter if a short story or novel, you probably don't think that the stories you read are written similar or different from other stories by other authors. From the story to the writing style each piece of literature is its own independent piece. For example “The Lesson” By Toni Cade Bambara and “A Rose For Emily” By William Faulkner are two short stories written by two different authors.
If a reader is given two short stories, two stories that are seemingly different on the surface, to read and compare and contrast, a surprising amount of similarities and differences can be found. Unless they deal with the same subject matter, most short stories aren't really related, until some analysis is done. The stories "A&P," by John Updike, and "An Ounce of Cure," by Alice Munro, are very similar but very different.
