Global Warming and Greenhouse Gases
The United States releases twenty tons of carbon monoxide per person per year. Carbon Monoxide release is a result of burning fossil fuels with an insufficient amount of oxygen that causes the formation of carbon monoxide that pollutes our environment. Everyday fuel is burnt by cars, airplanes, large factories and manufacturing plants. This is causing a very large and deadly problem for our environment. When gases used on earth are released into the atmosphere they act as a blanket and trap radiation that is then redirected to earth. This concept is called the Greenhouse Effect (Bad Greenhouse, 1).

Public transportation can help reduce stress caused by driving, save money, and also protect our environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the road. In order to get more people off the road and into the public transportation system we must increase the number of buses and taxis that are available. We must also increase the number of stops available for daily bus routes. With more stops on the map more people are likely to use the bus system. Each city or town will be able to decide where more bus stops are needed and make the adjustments necessary to provide better service for the taxpaying citizens. Of course, none of this is possible without adequate funds in each town/city and the gas tax is guaranteed to provide those funds. Providing more public transportation will help us reach our ultimate goal of protecting the environment and ourselves.
The other fifty percent of your money will be split evenly between funding for research of alternative fuel sources and funding for the implementation of a high-speed rail system in the United States.
Alternative sources are the only absolute way we can secure the safety of our environment. Everyday carbon monoxide is released into our air. This is creating holes in the ozone layer and exposing humans to deadly fumes (Bad Greenhouse, 1). Two significant patterns which have occurred due to climate change are temperature and precipitation dispersion. These two patterns strongly correlate which each other and help us to explain processes and therefore implications both socially and economically which are caused from climate change. The earth’s temperature due to climate change is rising; however this temperature rise is not evenly distributed throughout the earth. Inland regions of continental lands masses (excluding the Arctic and Antarctic) heat up far more so than coastal regions, this is because radiation from the sun is these places are high and rock is a poor conductor of heat. Meaning the radiation is only absorbed by the surface. Coastal regions suffer far less from this effect because the ocean conducts heat much more effectively, allowing much more even heating of the ocean and therefore a smaller overall heat increase. The higher levels of heat experienced in the equator due to high sun radiation are an example of how the ocean regulates heat. Through ocean currents this heat is dispersed and is eventually ends up flowing all the way to the poles where its heat energy is released. This means the temperature of coastal regions is far less extreme than inland regions in general. However, because of this temperature regulation throughout the oceans the arctic, Greenland and Antarctic are heating up more rapidly than they otherwise would have. I want to discuss how our modern society continues to contribute to this increase in greenhouse gases. How individual users acting independently and rationally according to their own self-interests behave contrary to the common good of all users by depleting that resource. How these resources are depleting and greener options are available and how the new sustainability advantage is a better and profitable option.
Humans are polluting our atmosphere causing the Greenhouse Effect. What’s the Greenhouse Effect? “The Greenhouse Effect can be visualized as follows: imagine that Earth has been encircled by a giant glass sphere. The heat of the sun penetrates through the glass. Some of the heat is absorbed by the Earth, and some is radiated back towards space. The radiated heat reaches the glass sphere and is prevented from dispersing any further”(Global Warming The Facts). This makes the heat bounce back towards the Earth, which heats it up tremendously.
The earth’s climate is predicted to change because human activities are altering the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases –– primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The heat-trapping property of these gases is undisputed. Although uncertainty exists about exactly how earth’’s climate responds to these gases, global temperatures are rising. Much like the glass of a greenhouse, gases in our atmosphere sustain life on Earth by trapping the sun 's heat. The Earth’s atmosphere contains several different gases that act like a blanket, keeping the Earth warm. There are so many occurrences of unpredicted climatic effects such as the drought occurrences and the tides which affects the people. The unpredicted climatic changes have been as a result of the many factors. Global warming or also known as climate change refers to the increase heating of Earth 's surface, oceans and atmosphere and its effects. It is unknown who was the first person to point out the term “Global Warming”, but since the late nineteenth century geologist started talking about that increasing carbon dioxide by combustion, which could be the cause of rising temperature. But if talk about 55 million years ago the Earth was in the Eocene (the major division of the geologic timescale) during this period scientists say that the planet suffered a particularly warming. This increase was about 5 degrees Celsius, which represented one of the most significant changes in temperature throughout the geological history of the Earth. As a result favorable, the increase led mammals to disperse across the Earth 's surface, resulting in the evolution of primate ancestors of humans. But can we tell now that this increase of temperature rise is favorable?
One of the biggest debated issues today is that of anthropogenic global warming or climate change. People will argue that the earth goes through a natural cycle of warming and cooling. While this is somewhat true, the majority of what we are seeing currently is something beyond natural causes; something caused by humans. Humans produce a massive amount of waste, and air pollution is no exception. The amount of greenhouse gas emissions has only continued to rise due to population growth- which leads to an increased demand for resources, products, and industrialization.
What is the "greenhouse effect? " It is the behavior of solar radiation when it interacts with gasses in the Earth's atmosphere. The Sun gives off a wide spectrum of energy which we classify according to its wavelength. Among the types of energy given off by the sun are ultraviolet (UV), visible and infrared (IR) wavelengths. UV is short wavelength high-energy radiation, visible is mid-wavelength, mid-energy radiation, and IR is long wavelength low-energy radiation.

As the delicate balance of time moves on, slight differences in the weather can be noticed. Anyone can see that there is a shift in the balance of the environment; heat waves, hurricanes, tsunamis and the like are occurring faster than ever. Given the name of “global warming”, it is a problem on a world wide scale and only the cooperation of everyone can it be fixed or at least slowed down.
