Chapter 11 Extra Credit Homework Simulation Question 8-3 1. Incorrect assumption, statement, and computation in Curry’s application of the attribute estimation sampling technique. 1) Curry wanted to asses Control Risk (CR) at a low level, which means strong audit. In order to have a low CR, audit should pick his/her Tolerable Exception Rate (TER) low too because they are directly related values for audit assessment. On the contrary Curry’s TER was 20 % which is a high value for low CR. 2) Curry should have followed the 14 steps of AES but he did not fulfill all the subtitles. 3) Curry failed to identify population correctly, at the beginning he was planning to statistical sampling approach to 8,000 shipping documents but in the process
I find support for Hypotheses 1 and 2, showing that high and low monitoring treaties are more likely to occur following domestic political volatility, but differently depending on states' baseline beliefs about the adversary. For states that see one another as having high incentives to cheat on cooperation, recent domestic political volatility is associated with approximately a two-fold increase in the probability of high monitoring treaties. However, volatility does not have the same effect on treaty outcomes for states that see one another as types with low incentives to cheat. For those types states, domestic volatility is associated with a somewhat higher probability of low monitoring treaties. The interaction term between volatility and policy position is significant in nearly all the models estimated (including robustness checks), and is consistent in direction across all measures. This gives strong support for the conditional nature of the effect of volatility on agreement type. The figures presented in this section elaborate on these findings, and the full statistical results are provided in the Appendix.
The Foodcorp simulation was a great exercise for this class. It was a fun activity. I felt that the materials and the situations reflected the real organizational experiences. There were thirteen roles with different responsibilities in the simulation. These roles create a structure of the organization. For example, these roles create a three level of hierarchy, two groups of products; frozen foods and dry foods, and the subsidiaries. I played the roles of senior vice president of frozen foods, vice president of production and vice president of sales and marketing of frozen foods. For these roles, I had the direct responsibilities to improve the situations that had been the issues in the frozen
This simulation of countries in 1914 was a very effective way of learning the struggles and obstacles that had to be overcome during a conflict. One of these main struggles was communication, the only way to communicate during this time was by letter. During our class sending letter proved itself to be very difficult, as soon as we would receive a letter and respond we would receive another letter changing they way we thought about out last letter. Some letters were intercepted and the wrong countries would receive our letter and key information would have been given away. It is also very easy to imposter another country in a letter, during our class we could se and know who was a part of a country and guess what there handwriting looks like.
Although the Saturday at Phoenix Simulation was full of fun, friends, and imaginative stations, there was no other station that represented the hallmark of “days that changed the world” than Camp Feenicks, with the greatest attention to detail and simple objective while managing to emphasize this year’s theme.
The internet likes to poke fun at Google Translate sometimes but it's a popular service for a reason. Many users love the service for translating foreign web pages to their native tongue. Additionally, it can be used to have some fun as well but that's not the matter at hand today. Today, we discuss options.
Despite the age and immensity of the Universe, we have not been visited nor been contacted by extraterrestrial beings because we are a part of a computer simulation. According to the Simulation Hypothesis, theory provided by Nick Bostrom, humans are unaware of being part of this computer generated simulation. The most compelling piece of evidence that supports this hypothesis is the fact to one can consider a sequence of possible situations which an increasing fraction of all people live in simulations becomes more accurate. (Bostrom 1)
The Kaliningrad wargame was very useful to apply RSP learning outcomes and understand the roles and responsibilities of different international actors in complex challenge environment. Coming from the Region with same complex security challenges helped to reflect in more international and bigger conflict. The simulation exercise was flexible with possibility to apply the DIME, international organization, frame strategy, generate strategic options and decision making during in a complex environment.
BAU scenario: scenario for future patterns of activity what assumes that there will be no significant change in people's attitudes and priorities, or no major changes in technology, economics, or policies, so that normal circumstances can be expected to continue unchanged. Key features of the BAU scenario:
The transient simulation was carried out to simulate the behavior of the aquifer in response to climatic change in the dry period after decreasing the infiltration rate with the end of the last wet period (~10,000 yr BP). The calibration in this stage was used the groundwater contour lines measured by Ball (1927) and Sandford (1935) which represents the groundwater level in the aquifer before beginning of the heavy exploitation in 1960 neglecting the very low decline in the water level between 1935 and 1960 in comparison to the long period between 10,000 BP and 1927 or 1935
Simulation can be used in different phases of the life cycle of a construction project such as design and operation (Shannon 1977 ), to analyze construction operations (ElNimr and Mohamed 2011) . The Simulation provides a flexible tool that allows the evaluation of the impacts of the system changes and xxx decisions on the construction job sites. Furthermore, another aspect of simulation is that we can consider the simulation as a visual representation to support the analysis of different strategies in tasks such as resource allocation (Yazici 2006) . At construction job sites, site supervisors are responsible for coordinating the operations of all activities. Therefore, a good understanding of the construction operations/activities
In general, since all three equations are able to explain most of the variations of the current consumption, the current investment, and the current interest rate, I combined these equations and added the identity equation to create a model.
The goal of the simulation was to use appropriate change levers to persuade a critical mass of Spectrum Sunglass employees to adopt a new initiative. My scenario was a CEO trying to convince critical mass that a change in the organization’s strategy and products was essential. Sustainable development for business and linking the themes of sustainability and innovation was critical to the company’s future. It was a low urgency situation with the CEO trying to be proactive and to stay ahead of the industry trend to stay competitive.
In the UN Simulation, I represented the country of Mexico. We have never owned and are never seeking to own nuclear weapons and we are looking for ways to persuade other countries to reduce their nuclear stockpile and eventually rid the world of nuclear weapons (UN, 2015). Mexico has taken many actions in the past to push a nuclear weapon free world. In our constitution, it states that nuclear power can only be used for peaceful purposes. We are also a signatory to the Latin American & Caribbean nuclear weapon free zone treaty (NWFZ) (World Nuclear, 2017). Mexico is one member of the 65 nation Conference of Disarmament (CD) and the New Agenda Coalition (NAC) (Acronym, n.d.) and we are also one of 125 countries to sign the joint statement on the Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons from the UN First Committee (Acronym, n.d.).
Have you ever wondered what the next Stock Prices were going to be? Did you ever know that you could calculate these future prices? Have you heard of the Monte Carlo Simulation? The Monte Carlo Simulation is a computerized mathematical technique that allows people to account for risk in quantitative analysis and decision. It furnishes the decision-maker with a range of possible outcomes and probabilities that they will occur for any chance of action. It shows the extreme possibilities of different situations as well. The system calculates results over and over, each time using a different set of random values from the probability functions. The simulation could involve tens and thousands of recalculations before its
The world’s first all-optical notebook computer was launched in 2003 by Quasar. The Neutron is the result of revolutionary efforts by the company. The product processor and memory uses high-speed optical conductors that are five times the speed of existing microchip based companies. The Tata simulator exercise is an aid to decide which industry structure Quasar should use to increase profits, create competitive advantage and explores implications of each on business ventures.
