1. Corporate social responsibility is a term that conveys a corporation’s social responsibility to society. In the old days corporations felt that once they had gained support from the public they had a responsibility to give back to the community. This idea of giving back meant serving as volunteers and providing financial contributions in aim of correcting the problems of the community. Corporations have a wide range of opportunity and reach within most societies so it is important and can ultimately be a great aid for a corporation to help in correcting the problems of society by contributing and giving back along with other individuals. I also believe that corporate social responsibility means ensuring that there are not problems arising that make it hard for consumers to continue to support a corporation. One company that engages highly in Corporate Social Responsibility is Burt’s bees. This company is a part of the Natural Products Association and developed the Natural Standard for Personal Care Products, which set in motion guidelines for what determines whether or not a product is considered all natural. In producing solely natural products this company is dedicated to the sustainability of the environment and the health of their consumers. Each product design is promised to be organic and environmental friendly in order to benefit consumers as well as the ecosystem with which we live in and must maintain. The company has enacted a goal for 2020 to be the “greenest personal care company on earth.” With this goal in mind they aim to be carbon free and operate using 100 percent renewable energy, ultimately emitting no waste into the environment. A company can be socially responsible in a variety of ways such as using resources that won’t hurt the environment or the consumers, and giving a portion of their proceeds to a foundation. CSR is when business’ or corporations take part in an initiative or campaign for a cause that will benefit society and/or in some way make the world a better place (Taylor, 2015).
