Assignment for Week One Sarah L Bean INF 337 Integrated Cost & Schedule Control Instructor: Michael Chu 7/19/2016 to 8/22/2016 Assignment for Week One A work breakdown structure (WBS) is hierarchical structure to a project’s life cycle that display a logical demonstration of meshed activities in a project’s scope. A scope is well defined with clear tasks, standards, and specifications with the proper language for review by customers where correction or misunderstanding can be corrected. It allows a target delivery date and budget for the project with expected deliverables and work package activities. The scope is referred to as the project’s objective. The WBS is an layout of how the work ought to be performed. There is no universal standards or rules to developing a WBS. However, the WBS meshes the project scope, schedule, cost, project information structure to simplify understanding of the objective. The following essay is a simple explanation of what is a WBS and a 3 level dollhouse project using a WBS structure WBS with Relations to Deliverables, Codes, & Work Packages The idea of the WBS is to draw out the entire project information structure to the flow of progress using a summarized report to the project cost. A clear understanding of the WBS is a interrelated logical element where facilitation, estimation, resource requirements, point of control systems and network, and assigned responsibilities for the each element is planed, development, and implemented. The
Secondly the paper will examine a management tool, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), scrutinising DE&S’s inability to recognise the depth of sub-projects, (such as the training requirements for the end user), which when put to good use allows a project to operate more effectively.
The project will follow a series of phases during production. Each phase will reflect a goal in achieving a particular task and also the resources needed to
Three charts have been prepared. The first details the exact structure of the expansion, the second places the proposed expansion’s chart into EMBERS’ current organizational chart with the addition of a COO role. The third chart shows a future goal for the EMBERS structure that will theoretically maximize efficiency of key CEO and COO resources while promoting independent growth of each EMBERS Staffing Solutions branch. Following these charts is the rationale behind the creation and a brief description of the roles at the new branch.
Cost and Value management is becoming a large part of companies competing in today’s market. According to the text, “projects and their effective management can provide organizations with a significant competitive edge through cost reduction, enhanced responsiveness, and overall value to customers.” (Venkataraman & Pinto, 2008, p. 1). In this paper we are going to focus on some of the techniques and how they can either help or hinder a project. Through information and examples we will explore the importance of work packages and the work breakdown structure (WBS), establishing a cost and schedule performance
Step 5. We drafted the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), this classified the tasks and activities needed for the doing project work.
This assignment consists of three (4) sections: a written project plan, revised business requirements document, project plan PowerPoint presentation, and a finalized project plan. You must submit the four (4) sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment.
After collecting and acquiring the data for the service request for Riordan Manufacturing, I have concluded that the integration of the present system will be valuable to the corporation’s human resource department. The idea for this development will be constructed in regards to the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). A work breakdown structure (WBS), in project managing and systems engineering, is a deliverable accommodated breakdown of a development into diminutive modules. A work breakdown structure component may be a creation, information, advantage, or any mixture thereof. A WBS furthermore delivers the essential outline for thorough cost approximating and influence along with offering direction for agenda expansion and control.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a tool that is used to define the work elements of a project and identify its entire scope. It is the map of the project which identifies all elements of the project and allows managers to keep track and control of it. It is made of a hierarchy which facilitates the evaluation of cost, time and performance at all levels of the project life-cycle and organization. The structure illustrates the smaller units and allows for adaptation and quick communication if there a problems which need to be addressed. Definitions of each task should be clear and avoid overlapping in
So we will set up milestones that show deadlines the date, mean by finish a task which a milestone is a task with zero duration. We think that a milestone is most important in a log cabin project as it show important dates on the project plan and often key events, but it does not affect any of the Gantt chart calculations. Overall, the work breakdown structure (WBS) to make complex a log cabin project more management while the WBS is designed to help breakdown this project into manageable chunk that can be effectively estimated. Also a WBS helps to explain a log cabin project scope to the stakeholder, supplier and labor.
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is a task oriented detailed breakdown, which defines the work packages and tasks at a level that is defined in the networks and schedules. The WBS initiates the development of the Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS), and the Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).
A work breakdown structure (WBS) will develop for this project and the WBS is based on the project charter, scope statement, and other relevant information. Gantt chart and network diagram also will be well prepared for this project. While preceding the planning stage, the resource usage cash flow report will showing the hours each person is assigned to work on each task each week. Furthermore, the probability/ impact matrix and list of prioritized risks for the project will be included in the project
Format 1: Defines cost and schedule performance data by product oriented Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). The Work Breakdown Structure is product-oriented family tree that outlines all of the products to developed and/or produced. Format 1 is to be done monthly. This “tree” starts with main product to be delivered, in this case the A-XX Linebacker, as the “trunk” and each “main
In reference to the previous proposal devised to guide the project parameters of a luxury tour bus, a Statement of Work (SOW) was generated to provide a workable framework for the series of tasks involved. While this preliminary SOW was sufficient for the initial phase of the project planning process, a system for implementing quality requirements and expected outcomes for complex projects known as the SMART system must now be applied to ensure that the SOW is honed to optimal efficiency. The SMART system is an acronym for the five components of well developed project requirements, which should always be (S)pecific, (M)easurable, (A)ttainable, (R)ealistic, and (T)imely. By integrating SMART requirements within the current luxury bus tour renovation, the project management team can work to prevent tasks from being completed unnecessarily or incorrectly, mistakes which inevitably cause a project to overrun its predetermined scope, schedule, and budget constraints. The following SOW has been devised to incorporate the SMART requirements and apply them to all tasks necessary to reach full project completion.
The major deliverables for XYZ is to develop new games, up gradate software and review process will follow a comprehensive project management approach established
Other project management literature focus on additional components in their definition of Project Scope Management. The APM bok defines scope manegement as ‘… defining the scope of the project and breaking this into manageable pieces’ (Burke, 2007 pp83). This highlights and refers to the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), a process which lies at the centre of the PMBOK’s intertwined planning proceses, whereby the scope is subdivided into work packets. The planning of the project budget, schedule and most knowledge areas are based on the WBS, which is why this process is so critical.
