What’s worse, her health insurance company decided to raise het insurance premiums simultaneously because with the reason of her potential health risk. Before the ACA published, insurance companies have authority to change the content of insurance with this reason, such as increasing the payment, excluding explicit benefit, denying the coverage, even refusing or canceling the application. In the contrast, the Obamacare prohibit these actions now. Insurers cannot change the insurance based on patients' medical histories. “This was huge”, Deborah Chollet, the manager of health insurance research at Mathematic Policy Research said, “Now they can't set rates on health status at all, and they have to cover the whole …show more content…
Nevertheless, the advancements of Obamacare are in predicament now. On the one hand, the insurance companies are heightening the premiums or even withdrawing totally from the market; on the other hand, an increasing number of doctors and hospitals are not including in insurance plans. Margot Sanger-Katz (2016), a domestic correspondent at New York Times, believed that this problem is similar to an all-you-can-eat buffets. “you can be in deep trouble if your buffet suddenly becomes the favorite hangout of the high school football team”, she said, “Those very hungry customers will pay $15, while eating $40 worth of food.” To run the program, PPACA have negative influence on different interest

The health reform, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act also called the Obama care (2010), which holds the promise of universal health coverage under government mandates. With a predominant role that is play from the government the Health Care Reform is said to be, one of the most important pieces of legislation today. The purpose of this board is to discuss the challenges that effective leaders at different levels in the society should face on regards to
The rapidly rising cost of health care in the United States has made access to medical care difficult for many citizens. Additionally, the number of uninsured is increasing because of job loss and reduction of employee benefits. This trend is projected to continue. The negative effect of reduced access to health care may have alarming effects on the economic well-being of the nation. The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) marks the beginning of significant transformation in the United States’ health care systems. After multiple attempts to reform health care over the years, the nation’s leaders have succeeded in pushing through this landmark legislation that will ensure most Americans will have access to
In today’s day and age, American households can all agree that health insurance is not a luxury, but a necessity. Without it, costs of emergency room visits and prescription medicines can be financially devastating. However, in the past many families and individuals have taken the risk of not being insured due to the high cost of the insurance itself. To attempt to reform this unfair system, the Obama administration signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010. The law, coined “Obamacare,” has received much opposition due to its expansion government programs and increase in spending. It brings to question how much the government should be involved in an area that for the majority of America’s history, has been
The Affordable Care Act is a law that was enacted on the 23rd of March 2010. Regardless of the fact that it was put into place in 2010, there are still numerous aspects of the law being debated today. The law has several provisions that are expected to take effect between the year of 2010 and 2020 (Reid, 2012). Among the significant reforms in the law includes a clause prohibiting insurers from refusing people coverage due to some preexisting conditions. In addition, these companies should offer the same price for all clients who are in the same geographical location and are the same age. Another reform was that families that are in the poverty line should receive federal subsidies if they decide to buy insurance through an exchange. The government also created minimum standards for insurance policies. The government also established health insurance exchanges as platforms for comparison of different policies. The Affordable Care Act also has an individual mandate
Health is the most important thing one can have. Without good health, people cannot continue living. Thus, Congress drafted a bill called Affordable Care Act, or commonly known as Obamacare, on March 23, 2010. This new healthcare reform strategize to increase affordable healthcare insurance and lower the costs of healthcare for citizens. One important aspect of the bill is that it demand all insurance companies to cover every client despite his or her pre-existing conditions. The motto for this reform is “quality over quantity,” which means the government want to shift healthcare from higher price to higher benefits. The primary goal of the bill is to lower future government spending (Pear, Robert).
As the implementation of The Affordable Care Act (ACA) nears, news media is featuring a large number of individuals whose health insurance coverage is being cancelled. The current administration claims that their objective is for everyone to have health insurance, but there is a gap between their new legislation and the results. American consumers are falling in the gap between private insurance plans that are too expensive, and the poorly developed government system. Despite claims from the Obama administration, the Affordable Care Act limits the American public’s choice of private health insurance plans.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the most significant health care legislation reform in the United States since the passing of Medicare and Medicaid (Russell Sage Foundation, n.d.). Changes in healthcare delivery affect consumers, insurance companies, healthcare providers, and policy makers. Several factors provoked this monumental change in health care. Social, political, and economic forces drive change in the United States healthcare system. Within these categories, scarcity, a changing demography, and interests groups have a profound influence on how we view health care and which policies are enacted.
As it stands insurance companies now can no longer refuse coverage based on preexisting conditions or health status. In other words insurance is now guaranteed issue.
‘Over 105 million people living in America today no longer have to worry about having their health benefits cut off’ (Secretary WH) . Since enacted, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been able to provide for millions of lower and middle class Americans a secure and reasonable healthcare plan that best suits their medical needs. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) also commonly refer to as ‘Obamacare’ was a solution implemented in 2010 to help reform the precarious healthcare system in the United States. The ACA imposed three key reforms adopted from the successful Massachusetts system of healthcare. First, the ACA established a “guaranteed issue and community rating requirements” which essential barred healthcare insurances
The ACA has created certain restrictions on insurance companies which limits insurance companies from ending contracts and denying patients of medical coverage because of a patient’s medical
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also known as the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare,” is a federal law that forever changed America on March 23, 2010. The intention of this law is to provide millions of American citizens who are uninsured or underinsured with reasonable and affordable healthcare coverage. Unfortunately, the law has failed to do so in several ways and has actually created hardship for millions of Americans – some of which were fully covered before the law was put into effect. The name of the legislative act is a mouthful, but its name is nothing compared its 2,700 pages of content that congress “read” before they passed it into law. This law continues to divide the nation and both sides are strong in their beliefs, creating heated discussions and bitter arguments. Proponents of the law feel it is the nation’s duty to grant everybody coverage whereas those that oppose the bill are alarmed at the fiscal implications it brings. Some people have signed up for Medicaid and consigned to a lifetime of poor health care. Others have obtained access to subsidized exchanges, but will find it harder to find employment and make enough to support themselves as a result. Ironically, the most affected population are citizens that already have insurance and paying thousands of dollars per year that will now be squeezed even harder by this
For the first time in history, insurance companies will no longer be allowed to simply tell a person “no”. They will be required to offer coverage and accommodate regardless of a person’s health status, and they will not be able to jack up rates or drop any one from coverage when the main person in the insurance packet gets sick.
With the introduction of this reformed market, more than 70% of people who were not a holder of insurance are now insured. It impact has largely been positive on insurance holders.
I have chosen to talk about affordable health care as my issues. Lately the cost of health care has gotten extremely expensive. Years ago it was no problem with health care. Now of days, you have sometimes taken a physical which will decide whether are not you will be insured by a healthcare company. The cost of healthcare is not only expensive for adults but also really expensive for your kids. Let’s take a look back to about maybe 7 to 10 years ago. I remember when choosing healthcare coverage basically was deciding which premium you wanted to pay and deciding between a PPO and HMO, but now you have so many different choices that it
