It is known that 1080 is soluble and quickly dissolves in rivers and streams. The fact that 1080 doesn’t spread and isn’t cumulative is another reason why it is used instead of the other alternatives mentioned earlier. If 1080 is placed 50 meters from a river, stream or walking tracks. However in reality, 1080 pellets can be seen placed in all these areas. This brings up the question, what if 1080 is getting into our water supplies and is causing people worry about the safety of water. The problem is that there is actually no type of evidence or study done to see how 1080 effects the environment and human health in the long term when it is dissolved in water has an impact on the plants and animals that surround it.
After investigating the

I believe that knowing if 1080 is 100% safe to use and fully researched and tested about we should switch to trapping and hunting. I think that the methods of trapping and hunting will be effective and will do an acceptable job at controlling possums while there is more research into 1080 and other possible alternatives. It is better than using a poison that is uncontrolled and hurting non-targeted species. During this investigation I found that the people who were against and for the use of 1080 had a clear bias. The information I gathered for in favour and against came from different organisations websites. I found that both sides of the argument had good reasons for what stance they were taking. I also found that for each viewpoint didn’t reveal facts that would cause conflict. For example, one source stated that 1080 breaks up in 3-4 weeks and a different source claimed that it can take several months for it to break down in the right conditions. The sources that had ‘govt’ and ‘org’ in their address had information that was much more valid compared to the rest. I also found online booklets ‘pdf’ files had incredibly valid information that related directly to our export industries and pest problems. I had to read carefully and look through the most reliable websites with valid
Water contamination is vastly becoming an alarming issue across the world. We rely on clean water to survive, yet right now we are heading towards a water crisis. Changing climate patterns are threatening lakes and rivers, and key sources that we tap for drinking water are being overdrawn or tainted with pollution (www.nrdc.org). Clean and plentiful water is the cornerstone of prosperous communities. Yet as we enter the 21st century, swelling demand and changing climate patterns are
To sum it up, if Congress does not vote to end fracking in New York State we are all subject to this contaminated water. The fracking companies are literally knocking on doors and asking homeowners along with people in the community to lease their property to install these wells and pump these chemicals into the ground so I have a partition layed out in the back so that You can help and join the fight by signing petitions to ensure NYS Congress fights to stop fracking on our turf also To see the validity of this contaminated water, I urge you to check out the movie “Gasland” as well as YouTube videos of running water from kitchen sinks being lit on fire.
All the inhabitants of Flint communities regardless of their location had irreversible, permanent brain damage due to lead-contaminated water. It started when traces of E. coli and total coliform were found in the Flint River. The city addressed this problem by increasing chlorine levels in the water, causing the pipes to corrode, releasing lead into the waters. Total trihalomethanes (TTHM) were also formed in the water (they are carcinogenic to humans).TTHM is a disinfection byproduct that occur when chlorine interacts with organic matter in the water. At this stage, The lead levels in the water was 13,200 ppb. Water is considered hazardous waste at 5,000ppb (NPR 2016). This tragedy goes to show that this toxic runoff, or even the miss-handling of the water resources in a watershed can affect everyone as the downstream water was piped up into the upstream communities.
Upon entering English 111 on-line class, I had not taken an English class on-line before. In the past I have taken several other basic classes. English has always been a struggle for me, mainly writing and grammar. Neither, writing or grammar has come natural to me. The biggest challenge for me is putting my thoughts into words.
I was devastated to hear that only ten students were allowed into ENG 102 for the spring semester, but this is my opportunity to show you that I deserve to be put in ENG 102. I believe I should be one of the ten students to advance into your ENG 102 class because I think I have what it takes. I have ambitions and dreams and if I don’t graduate because of this class they will just burn to ashes in the back of my mind. Hopefully you will be persuaded by the end of this essay, and you will end up putting me in your 102 class.
Unit 10 was a closure for the previous four units in the process of inventing Canada. This unit based on the earliest resources on Canadian history and on the first nations whom lived in this country. This resources were about pre-Cartier and his explorations. Some nations, for example the people who lived in St. Lawrence valley – whom did not have a specific name to be called at- and historians still lacking enough evidence on their existence or what happened with them. These people who are identified as St. Lawrence Iroquoians were lived in the contact area which means the conquerors reached them first. The Iroquoians were exposed to all the dangers Europeans carried into the native lands, different types of diseases they were not immune
The 1320’s may sound like a countless number of years ago, but that period of time was a critical part in the history of the Islamic World. The 1320’s were much more advanced than we thought it was. There was global trade that connected three continents together and triggered the trade in luxury goods and the exchange of ideas. Thus, knowledge was spread by Islamic scholars, building major universities in well-known towns. The people of the Islamic World were civilized, having achieved many noble deeds and maintaining peace with the world.
Music has been a part of human society for thousands of years, and in each time period, music has been an integral part of culture. During the Middle Ages, numerous instruments were created for the art of music making. One of these instruments is called the hurdy-gurdy. Despite its strange name, this instrument has stood the test of time and still attracts the attention of music-lovers today (Baines, Bowles, & Green, 2001).
Rap music has come a long way, since the early 90s. Nowadays people copy each other’s music style because they do not have the creativity to create their own style. Although there is an underground rapper that creates some soul touching music. His name is Big K.R.I.T., short for King Remembered In Time. His music is not popular throughout the US due to the fact that he is not signed to a famous record label. He has his own he named “Multi Till The Sun Die”. Big K.R.I.T. is a self-independent working artist, and according to hotnewhiphop.com he is one of the most soulful artist in the rap game that is still active.
As war from the ground or the seas was not enough, war finally expanded to the air in the 20th century. These airplanes were finally introduced to warfare in the year 1911. Airplanes were first used for recon until finally weapons were added to them. Different countries competed to build the best most advanced airplanes. As the time for war came countries such as England and Germany designed fighter planes and bombers too. A couple of the airplanes that Germany managed to crank out for World War II were the ME-109 and the Stuka Bomb Diver. Meanwhile the British had the Spitfire Diver which was used by the Royal Air Force. These airplanes managed to cause major damage during war.
"It is not possible to add pesticides to water anywhere without threatening the purity of water everywhere. Seldom if ever does Nature operate in closed and separate compartments, and she has not done so in distributing the earth's water supply" (Carson 42).
The chemicals that are sprayed on the ground, even household weed killers, have a tendency to wash into local streams and rivers with the first rain. This has caused many incidents of fish, numerous miles down a river, to be found dead due to the toxins in the water. Carson states that the best way to eliminate a pest problem is to use natural predators, which are non-toxic, and a better long-term solution then pesticides, since many pests will become immune to most chemicals.
Picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) is a vital part of a healthcare organizations radiology department. These systems have evolved over the years and have proven to be crucial in streamlining patient care. Traditionally, radiologists have dedicated PACS workstations at a healthcare facility where the images are viewed and reports are dictated. Radiology images are stored locally on a server but with the constant increase in volume of medical imaging, data storage can become an issue. With new technologies and the development of a cloud based PACS, storage and retrieval of images can be done efficiently without concern for an overload of data on local workstations or servers. With a
1080 also affects the birds we are trying to protect negatively as some birds such as the kea mistake the 1080 bait as food. There have been instances where in monitored 1080 operation kea have died. The DOC have admitted to this as it shows this on their site. In order to combat this the DOC has made a big reduction in the number of baits used per hectare. Since the 1970’s the average quantity of bait was 40kg per hectare, thanks to today’s technology GPS systems can accurately spread out the 1080 and avoid footpaths and such along the way. Thus the quantity has been reduced to 1.5-3k per hectare. Also the adoption of baits that deter birds such as by dyeing them dark green and have cinnamon lures which attract the possums and rats but repel
Although the state of America’s water infrastructure is of great concern, the types of chemicals found in America’s tap water are equally as frightening. The passage of the Water Act in 1972 prevents the direct dumping of hazardous chemicals directly into waterways, and helps regulate quality standards of water. However, the Clean Water Act is has no jurisdiction on regulating indirect dumping of chemicals that integrates into water supplies. Pesticides and prescription drugs are the greatest cause for concern of indirect containments in America’s water supply (Olsen). An abundance of the harmful chemicals found in liquefied animals feces, used in large dairy states, have percolated into drinking wells that have caused serious infections (Duhigg). However, more harmful containments are infiltrating water supplies. Such containments include
